Keoma Talks About the LATAM FGC, Evo and Much More in This Interview with CounterHit

Ahead of Fight in Rio last weekend, CounterHit sat down with Capcom Cup 2015 finalist Innova|Keoma to talk about his experience of going to Evo 2016, his thoughts on the Latin American FGC, and his general thoughts about Street Fighter V, after playing it for a fair few months. Talking to interviewer Luiz Filipe Lima, it was enlightening to hear Keoma’s thoughts on how the Brazilian FGC can grow, learning from both the Capcom Pro Tour as well as through watching other esports like League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

He also touches on how a player’s training regime and play style can actually change once you are signed by a team. You’ll have a routine to practice with other players, there is a wider support network to provide psychological support to help push a player to the next level.

Get a Head Start on Unleashing Your Inner Demon in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution

When the news broke that Akuma was going to be in Tekken 7, there were a lot of people who were worried that he might not be a good fit for Tekken’s game engine. After he debuted, there were a whole lot more people complaining about what he could do, which led to the news that there would be a nerf so that he was a little less ridiculous. If you were wondering how he was looking at the moment though, Shudy_Jinlee has you covered. He’s put together some sample combos for the raging demon, and though they’re all in Japanese, those familiar with Tekken will have no problems in understanding the annotations.

Oh, and if that weren’t enough, Shudy has even broken down his entire movelist from start to finish. Check them out below if you were wondering exactly how Akuma fits together in his Tekken debut.

Spread Juri’s Sadism into Street Fighter V’s Survival Mode with VesperArcade’s Guide

As game modes go, Street Fighter V’s Survival Mode certainly has a sadistic streak–variable AI, no checkpoints, randomized health recovery–so who better to take it on than violence-loving Juri? VesperArcade has previously offered some playthrough footage of Juri (among others) on SFV’s Hard Survival Mode; in the video below he offers specific advice for what approach you’ll need to dominate this harsh CPU gauntlet, if you can.

VesperArcade has also provided Hard-level Survival Mode guides for Alex, Balrog, and Ibuki.

Classic SNK Title “The Last Blade” Released on Steam

As a purveyor of old fighting games, it is always a joy to find old titles being released into modern media. While I understand the desire to collect games in their original formats, some people are more concerned with just playing these titles, regardless of the platform–so any attempt by companies to keep classics alive for another generation is a great thing.

SNK continues to make sure the titles that paved the way for their powerhouse The King of Fighters series are available today, by releasing The Last Blade onto Steam. This game, considered a spiritual successor to Samurai Shodown, has seen it and its sequel receive a cult following within the FGC. This actually follows SNK releasing said sequel onto PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in May of last year. Available for the price of $9.99, it is worth picking up to pad your Steam fighting game collection, and maybe even find a new classic game to love.

Mr. Krabs Adds Some Nautical Nonsense to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in This Mod Showcase

When it comes to the denizens of the deep, there is one who is spoken of in hushed tones. A dark legend, feared by all who have encountered him.

Mr. Krabs.

Smash 4 modding has come a long way recently, and Mr. Krabs making an appearance in place of Wario is one of the latest breakthroughs in terms of vertex mods. It’s certainly something to see Spongebob’s money-hungry boss charge around the battlefield–or Final Destination, if that’s more to your tastes–and he seems to be a remarkably good fit over Wario. Check out the montage below, and enjoy seeing a crab farting on a Pokemon’s head. If you want to add him to your own game, you can find the skin in the description of the video.

Thanks to DLC earlier this year, Evil Geniuses’ Eduardo “PR Balrog” Perez got his synonymous main back in Street Fighter V; while many of his Capcom Pro Tour victories have been with Necalli, Vega, or Laura, here’s a chance to see almost half-an-hour of the pro player taking out his former hard-punching favorite for a spin, as he battles a variety of opponents–and some lag–in online SFV Ranked matches.

Only time will tell if PR Balrog can take the Crazy Buffalo into future tournaments’ top spots!

Street Fighter V Mini-Roundup: 400+ Damage Combos for Laura, Ryu, & Karin

If you’re looking for some new Street Fighter V combos to try out, here’s three useful, high-damage (relatively speaking) combos to add to your Street Fighter V arsenal. Kamotaru offers up a single 400+ or 500+ damage combo for Ryu and the two other lovely ladies in the videos below, each closing with the respective fighter’s Critical Art–though surely Karin considers Kanzuki techniques to be in a different class than these other two commoners’ moves.

If you want to be grapplin’ buds, start by learning this 526 damage Laura combo:

The meaning of battle can be found in this 467 damage string for Ryu:

GAMES 16 and Its Capcom Pro Tour Ranking Tournament Have Been Cancelled

Some disappointing news has hit the Middle Eastern fighting game community recently: the United Arab Emirates’ GAMES 16 convention has been cancelled, and along with it the Capcom Pro Tour ranking tournament that was set to take place during the event.

Originally set to take place from September 22 to 24, the event was cancelled supposedly due to conflicts with the release schedule of certain titles. As such, the organizers behind the event did not feel that they would have been able to deliver the quality that they had promised and as such, are postponing the event to next year.

The cancellation is a great blow for competitive Street Fighter V players in the Middle East, especially since the cancellation has nothing to do with the game or the tour. In addition to this, it also means that the European regional division of the CPT, which the GAMES 16 tournament was to be part of, is down one event. How this will affect the point spread and whether or not another tournament will take its place is as yet unknown.

The full statement from the GAMES 16 staff, including instructions on how to get refunds on tickets, can be found below.

Some sad news today as we’ve unfortunately had to make the decision to postpone GAMES Middle East 2016! The new game release schedule has worked against us unfortunately and despite having some great guests, exhibitors, tournaments and activities lined up, we wouldn’t be delivering the event experience we want for the fans or our partners and are already looking forward to exceeding expectations next year!

We’re hard at work on the next event in our calendar and will be working towards next year’s GAMES Middle East to make sure we can celebrate our love of gaming together in style!

Those who have already purchased tickets will be contacted by Virgin Tickets for refunds and next steps and you can always reach out to the virgin team on: tickets@virginmegastore.me Thank you as always for your support and for helping us continue to build entertainment and pop culture communities in the Middle East.GAMES 16
