Shock the Competition in Street Fighter V with These Electrifying Laura Resets

Street Fighter V is still going strong after Evo, especially with Juri just being recently released. Through all the hype of shiny new characters, dedicated Laura players are still out there–despite being considered low tier, Laura has a lot of tricky setups that she can perform once she lands the hit.

YouTuber Paulo Junior took the time to show off some of the Brazillian grappler’s meaner mix-ups. She has cross-unders, pre-block traps, crossovers, meaty mixups, and more.

If you want to learn more about Laura, check out this in-depth tutorial on learning the character.

Potetin Shows His Dark Side with Pokkén Tournament’s Darkrai

It’s tough to find any high-quality footage of Pokkén Tournament’s newly added Darkrai. Not just because the its arcade-only; the pitch-black Pokémon seems, on the surface… complicated. He comes packed with his own character-specific mode (Dark Void!), and he has an intricate set of delayed projectiles; he’s a low-health, option-heavy glass cannon.

It would take a dedicated player to churn out a winning strategy for him this quickly, less then a month after his arcade release. Of course, who else but Potetin would be the first to give his opponents nightmares? This is the same player that played the most characters in top 8 at Evo 2016 of any game, after all!

These videos were shared with us thanks to twitter user Monkey_Engine. There are three matches currently on the account, including one with the legendary Gengar player Sasahune.

There’s great zoning and decision-making, showing off Darkrai’s out-of-the-box strengths well. It’s a pretty amazing sight to see a Suicune player get frustrated and try to go in during Field Phase.

The wait for a console release date for Darkrai (and possibly others) seems to just get longer.

SNK is Hosting a King of Fighters XIV “Dream Match” with EG|Justin Wong, HORI|Sako, Ogawa, and GO1

With SNK’s King of Fighters XIV almost upon us, one question on many people’s minds is if any top players from other series will be picking the game up. To help address this, SNK will be holding a special stream featuring some of these top players from other games.

On August 19, SNK will be hosting a special “Dream Match” event, featuring top players EG|Justin Wong, Ogawa, GO1, and HORI|Sako.  Known for playing other titles–Ogawa mainly plays Guilty Gear, and the rest have been focusing on Street Fighter V–this gives us a chance to see how non-KOF players of this caliber will fare in the King of Fighters XIV.

Additionally, this isn’t the first time some of these players have switched games. GO1 was primarily known for BlazBlue before Street Fighter V, and Sako made a name for himself in Vampire Savior before becoming a Street Fighter player. Meanwhile, Justin Wong has been known to balance multiple games in the past, and has played King of Fighters ’98 in regional tournaments before.

SNK’s King of Fighters XIV Dream Match will take place on August 19 at 7:00 PM JST (6:00 AM Eastern, 3:00 AM Pacific). In the meantime, check out this trailer for the event.

Panda Global Begins Its Own Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tournament Recap Series, featuring PG|MVD

To compliment their Super Smash Bros. Melee recaps hosted by their resident analyst and Ice Climbers main, PG|Wobbles, Panda Global has kicked off an equivalent series for Smash 4, where players come on to walk through the main events of big tournaments. As their pilot episode, Panda Global has drafted in barrel technician MVD to recap the top 32 of this year’s Evo.

The presentation of this series is a cut above the Melee pilot, complete with short clips from select games and full screen graphics showing each individual player, their character, and who they lost to during top 32. Every player gets their moment of analysis, which is a welcome touch–as most recaps tend to solely focus on the top 8, as that is where most of the excitement takes place.

A potential criticism of this pilot is that PG|MVD sounds like he’s just reading off a script, which makes him seem strangely distant from the information being presented–this man is incredibly knowledgeable about the game already, and had firsthand insight of the tournament. Make sure to leave your own thoughts and constructive criticism in the comment of the video, to help improve the series.

PQube Announces EU Qualifiers for the Arc Revolution Cup 2016

In a collaboration with Rice Digital and Nth Gen Interactive, PQube will be hosting a 128-player tournament for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- in London to determine who will be one of Europe’s representatives for the Arc Revolution Cup in Japan later this year. This tournament will be held at the Rocket Complex within London Metropolitan University on the 17th of September, with the winner receiving an all-expenses paid trip to Japan to compete in the Cup Finals.

You can pre-register on the official Guilty Gear website, with payment being taken on the day. Entry costs £20.00 and entrants must be 18 or over, with some form of photo ID required to enter the tournament–if you don’t bring ID, you’re at risk of being disqualified. Also note that Japanese players cannot enter this event, as there will be qualifiers in Japan where they can earn their spot in the Arc Revolution Cup. European players can breathe a sigh of relief that no Japanese players will swoop in to take the spot from under their noses.

As well as this London qualifier, PQube has teamed up with GamingLive and PlayStation Plus League to hold a separate 16-player invitational tournament in Paris a week after the EU Qualifier. Hosted by Ken Bogard and Asenka, this special invitational will be held at the GamingLive Arena, with 12 of the entrants being specially selected by a panel from PQube. The remaining four entrants have to qualify, with two coming via the Guilty Gear Xrd PlayStation Plus League and the other two arriving via the Guilty Gear Xrd tournament at Les Veaux Bordelais 5. This tournament’s winner also will qualify for the Arc Revolution Cup, so Europeans have two chances to get themselves to Japan to take home the silverware.

Stop Wake-Up Jabs with These Meaty Setups for Street Fighter V’s Chun-Li, Juri, and Guile

Using jabs on wake-up in Street Fighter V can be a fairly effective way of keeping an opponent in check; they can easily slow down the offense of a player that isn’t on the lookout for them.

For those interested in learning how to punish them properly, KikoMasterRD has put together a series of videos focusing on meaty setups to effectively punish those pesky wake-up jabs with Chun-Li, Juri, and Guile.
