SPY|Nintendude Takes TSM|ZeRo’s Spot at The Smash Masters Event at Super Smash Con

Announced just ahead of the event this weekend, the team over at Super Smash Con have stated that TSM ZeRo has dropped out of The Smash Masters exhibition event–to be replaced by Splyce’s Nintendude. It is unclear as to why ZeRo pulled out of this exhibition, but one can hazard a guess that it is so he can focus all of his energies into winning Super Smash Con’s illustrious Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament.

Nintendude is definitely no slouch across the Smash games–known primarily for his Ice Climbers play in Melee, but he also has quite the resume for the original Super Smash Bros., placing within top 20 for singles tournaments and in top 8 in doubles tournaments. He does play Smash 4 casually, having faced off against fellow Ice Climbers main VGBC|ChuDat at Evo, but his proficiency in that game is nowhere near his skill in Melee and Smash 64.

With Nintendude now facing Mew2King in the opening round, the shape of this tournament has radically changed. ZeRo was certainly a favorite to win this exhibition, but with his bowing out of the competition, it looks like it may be a final showdown between Wizzrobe and Mew2King for the title of best overall Smasher.

Level Up Your Dizzy, Part 1: An In-Depth Okizeme Guide for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

Dizzy, the newest addition to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, is a bit of a glass cannon: she has low stun, guts (a defense modifier), and limited defensive options. In exchange, she boasts a wide array of offensive and zoning tools, leading to some fantastic mix-ups and pressure. This video roundup focuses on okizeme—oki for short—meaning the application of pressure and mix-ups against a knocked-down opponent. This is where Dizzy shines.

MIDSCREEN OKI

Throw combo, meaty K fish, low:

Throw combo, double air dash high/low mixup:

Sometimes setting out a fish on their knockdown doesn’t hit meaty. Here’s a way to stop any jump attempts with a meaty ice spear, into a true blockstring:

Midscreen crossup setup requiring a very close knockdown. This loops into itself when successful:

A similar concept using H fish instead. This shows how you can do a fake crossup by stopping your momentum with bubble:

This mixup is most effective against characters who can’t jump out (due to slower wakeup timing): Jam, Venom, Leo, Haehyun Kum, Elphelt, Faust, or Bedman. This can be countered by an air throw by everyone else except for Dizzy and Johnny.

CORNER OKI

A basic double airdash high/low mixup:

The next three videos show great high/low/throw mixups off of throw:

In the above mixups, there is potential for a wakeup reversal, or a reversal when Dizzy uses her bubble. Here are some examples of where people might try to interrupt.

Ky’s Ride the Lightning super is not fast enough:

Sol wakeup DP hits the fish instead of Dizzy:

Sol DP through the blockstring gap can be reacted to with YRC to safely block:

It is possible to avoid part of the airdash pressure by crouching. Crouching instant block gives you an opportunity to counter or airthrow here:

Great use of her fire bubble and YRC here set up solid damage and oki off a high/low. 25% meter:

Many combos end in ice spike, which doesn’t grant you much time to set up summons and close the distance. Stop jumps with a rising j.S (jump Slash) to push them back into a pressure situation:

Another option when you have no time for an elaborate setup is P fish YRC. The slowdown from YRC can mess up the opponent’s wakeup inputs, causing them to make a mistake or not get a reversal. 25% meter:

When your oki gets blocked, then what? Dizzy’s only standing overhead is 5D (standing Dust), so you need to use close Slash, jump cancel bubble to create more high/low situations:

Stay tuned for Part 2: combos, frame traps, fuzzy guard setups, and more! A big thank you to everyone sharing their videos on Twitter.

Heavy Changes to Skullgirls 2nd Encore’s Robo-Fortune & Fukua Incoming

As we recently reported, Skullgirls 2nd Encore is in the process of getting a huge update to its core game. New animations and lobbies–among other changes–are on their way soon. Probably some of the most exciting changes coming are in the form of balance adjustments for multiple characters; while some of the characters are scarcely getting touched, or having simple bug fixes added, other characters are getting large reworks to core aspects of their gameplay–and some of the biggest changes in that department are going to Robo-Fortune.

While these changes are tentative at the moment, and extremely experimental–none of them are guaranteed to go into the full game, and new changes are being added almost daily–they are currently live in Skullgirls’ Endless PC Beta, which has been running since the PC launch. Robo-Fortune is currently getting large buffs to her keep-away game, but in return is suffering large nerfs to her damage output. Fukua is also receiving a really big change: in the ability to call and hold her shadows until she wishes to release them. This means she can pressure the opponent with the threat of a incoming low or overhead shadow. In return for this, she does lose health while holding a shadow, as well as a large nerf to her damage as well. Check out this video featuring some of the changes.

You can play with these changes for yourself, or wait for them to make their way to retail. Either way, check this link for a current list of all the changes, which will be updated regularly as new changes are added.

Use These Balrog V-Trigger Resets to Safely Pummel Opponents in Street Fighter V

Brian Foster has taken a break from the usual Necalli tech to showcase these safe Crazy Rush resets for Street Fighter V’s violent boxer Balrog. His V-trigger allows you to pile on massive damage and stun, but having a plan for both getting into the Rush and ending it safely will prevent your pummeling spree becoming turnaround for your opponent. Brian_F breaks down multiple options move-by-move in the video below.

Looking for more ways to earn Balrog’s fight money? Punch above your weight class with these combos, or check out just how much pain the Crazy Buffalo can dish out.

Register Now for South East Asia Major 2016, One of Asia’s Toughest Tournaments

South East Asia Major has traditionally been one of the toughest tournaments on any given year–its prior June time slot meant that many top Asian players attended the event as a way to prepare for Evo the following month.

This year, SEA Major 2016 moves to October as part of the GameStart 2016 gaming convention. However, that doesn’t meant that the competition will be any less fierce: the tournament now stands as one of the last chances for Street Fighter V players in Asia to qualify for Capcom Cup later in December. In addition to this, it’s still one of the largest tournaments in Southeast Asia for games such as the King of Fighters XIV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-, and others.

Those interested in attending can register here. In the meantime, here’s the latest trailer for the event.

South East Asia Major 2016 takes place from October 7 to 9, as part of GameStart 2016, at the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Modders Bring Back the Yoshi’s Story Stage from Melee

The modding community for super Smash Bros. for Wii U has exploded over the past few months, with talented people working together to create new character skins, a special Tournament Edition, and re-texturing existing stages for different looks. It was only a matter of time until modders started working together to port old stages from Melee and Project M to Smash 4.

After hints on Twitter and some promising screenshots, the Yoshi’s Story stage from Super Smash Bros. Melee has been remade and successfully ported to Smash 4. This isn’t just a re-skin of Battlefield though–it’s a proper replica of the starter stage, complete with same blast zones and a working version of everyone’s favorite smiling cloud, Randall. While the cloud timings are slightly off compared to Melee, it’s still a great feat to clone the stage and get it looking so vibrant in Smash 4. Currently, the stage replaces Kongo Jungle 64 Omega, as modders haven’t quite figured out how to replace normal stages without causing the game to lock up. This stage is also not safe to use online, so don’t expect to play this with friends over Wi-Fi.

The stage is available for download from gamebanana now; check out the video below to see the stage in action. The video even teases a remake of Fountain of Dreams, so expect that stage to also grace many modded copies of Smash in the near future.

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Cross-Platform Play May Depend on Sony’s Willingness

Cross-platform play has been a hot topic of discussion as of late, particularly after Microsoft stated that they are more than open to the idea of Xbox One/PlayStation 4 connectivity. With Tekken 7: Fated Retribution still in development, some fans are asking Bandai Namco directly if there are any plans of implementing interaction between the destination platforms.

Twitter user @IPT_eL recently asked Tekken 7 game designer Michael Murray if the upcoming fighting game would include a more inclusive online network:

Sony is no stranger to cross-play however: the company has supported play between PlayStation 4 consoles and PC for quite some time. Titles like Street Fighter V and Final Fantasy XIV already have this kind of connectivity. The real question is if Sony is willing to cooperate with their competitor to have one unified playing space.

With neither side making any promises, it’s tough to tell if cross-platform play will be a feature shipping with Tekken 7, but there is always hope for a compatibility patch down the road if all parties come to an agreement.

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution will be releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2017.
