Learn the Basis for Pikachu’s Moveset in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS

Pikachu is the electric poster-mouse of the entire Pokémon franchise, and a popular fighter for the Super Smash Bros. series to boot. As part of their ongoing Smash History video series, The Game Theorists have examined the fiesty pokémon’s past and how its prior appearances in the core Pokémon games (and the collectible card game) have helped shape Pikachu’s moves in the current Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS titles.

Pikachu’s pre-evolved form Pichu (of Super Smash Bros. Melee fame) is also included for comparison–and they discuss the fan-theory that the version of Pikachu seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl onward is actually Melee’s Pichu, post-evolution. Check out the video and judge for yourself.

Study up further on Pikachu with ESAM’s breakdowns of its Smash 4 matchups.

Getting Too Old for This: Officer Peter Stars in His Own Fan-Made Street Fighter V Trailer

Peter, the unplayable police officer from Street Fighter V’s General Story mode (and voiced by Peter “ComboFiend” Rosas), has drawn a committed fanbase. This character has so much support, that he was even modded into the PC version of the game–which you can check out in our mod roundup here, which includes Peter as well as other modded characters.

Not only has this policeman earned die-hard fans and a chance to fight for himself, but now he also has an opportunity to shine in his own fan trailer. The trailer shows off his “charming” personality, and his powerful attacks–such as his overhead baton, which can be linked into additional baton attacks for a hilarious combo string. Check out the trailer to see what else he can do!

Check Out These Insane Skullgirls 2nd Encore Midscreen Assist Kill Setups

In Skullgirls, calling an assist to back yourself up is one of the most powerful options in the game. An assist can cover weaknesses of your point character, and exacerbate weaknesses of opposing players. However, this does not mean that an assist call is always the right decision–in fact, poor assist calls can often hurt you more than anything your opponent can put you through. If both you and your assist are caught, there are ways of optimizing and maximizing damage to kill the assist, either with meter or without meter.

Today, here’s yet another way to capitalize on a bad assist call and ensure your victory. If you combo both the assist and the point character, but the point character dies, the assist is stuck in the combo until dropped. Creative players can take advantage of this fact to take a second character–or even the match. Below, player CaioLugon shows us how to use this to your advantage with every character in the game.

ZeRo Offers Advice on How to Get Better at Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

“Git gud,” the most common (and most empty) piece of advice floating around online, is a phrase thrown around derisively at weaker players. How do you actually get good enough to break through to the pantheon of top players?

While speaking from the perspective of a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player, ZeRo disassembles the phrase and attempts to actually answer the question. Beyond effective practicing, studying, and attending events, he mentions how important it is to commit time to getting better. Tournaments particularly help one measure up to the competition level that lies beyond locals.

Other than that, ZeRo goes over what aspects to study and grind: knowing frame data, the right punishes, and the most effective combos all contribute to getting better.

Wavedash Games Grows Ever Larger as Art Director Josh Singh Joins the Team

A new challenger has joined the fight over at Wavedash Games. Having previously worked at Riot Games and Blizzard, Art Director Josh Singh comes to the fledgling development team to help guide the art direction of the project–hopefully to shape this new platform fighter into a game filled with a diverse cast of colorful characters and fun locales to fight in.

Josh is no stranger to designing cool characters, as he was part of the design team that created League of Legends heroes such as Nautilus, Draven, Darius, and Jayce. He also helped rework older heroes like Twisted Fate, Annie and Sion as part of the revamp team so he no doubt be well equipped to inject some life into the currently uninspiring visuals for the project (based on the few bits of concept art we’ve seen for Ashani).

With a former Project M dev on the team–and now, someone who is quite adept at designing and reworking characters to be memorable and visually engaging–I think Wavedash is now starting on the way to making something special. Hopefully they will release a sneak peek of the game in motion at Super Smash Con, and we’ll finally get a name for this project that has its sights set on the hardcore Smash crowd.

Keep the Pressure On with These Ibuki Bomb Mixups for Street Fighter V

Ibuki’s strength in Street Fighter V lies in her deadly combos, and her Isshaku Horokudama–her V-trigger, namely those tricky ninja bombs–can really keep the pressure on if the timing and positioning is mastered. The Rush n’ Kill Clan recently showed off excellent applications of this; in the video below, MrBshock gives us a look at how to vary your mixup to deal with an opponent’s knockdown recovery: be it a quick rise, a back recovery, or none at all. Keep that pressure on and don’t let an opponent escape!
