Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition Officially Announced, Coming September 20

Hot on the heels of retailers leaking the game’s existence, Microsoft has now officially announced Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition.

As previously speculated, the game will come with all 26 characters from the game’s 3 seasons. In addition to this, it comes with both Killer Instinct Classic 1 & 2 for Xbox One–faithful recreations of the 90s arcade originals. Other features include an interactive universe map with stage location details, plus exclusive behind-the-scenes videos digging into the history, world, and design of this beloved franchise.

Additionally, those who pick it up in stores will receive a bonus Original Soundtrack CD and an exclusive Gold Gargos character skin.

Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition hits stores on September 20 and will retail for $39.99. In the meantime, check out the official announcement trailer below.

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Glitch Allows Johnny to Retain Unblockable Properties

One of Johnny Sfondi’s moves in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- is his Bacchus Sigh. This attack produces a mist that, upon contact with the opponent, makes Johnny’s next Mist Finer attack unblockable.

While the unblockable property is supposed to last only while the mist is present, a glitch in the game allows Johnny to retain the property even after it has dissipated. As ShiSin pointed out in a recent Tweet, while hitting Johnny makes the mist go away, he still retains the unblockable property until he uses a Mist Finer.

As Mike Z noted when he brought this to our attention, there’s no way to ban the use of the glitch; it’s simply going to happen sometimes in the natural flow of a match.

Will there be players with the presence of mind to score some unintended unblockables this weekend at Evo? We’ll have to wait and see.

Bow Before Geese Howard and His Team in the Latest King of Fighters XIV Team Trailer

Just like death and long desks, you cannot escape from SNK’s weekly team trailers for the King of Fighters XIV. This time, they give us a look at Team Southtown featuring Billy Kane, Hein, and their boss, Geese Howard.

While we’ve seen Geese in a trailer before (as well as his alternate nightmare costume), this is the first time we’re seeing him do more than just counter his predictable and pathetic foes.

The King of Fighters XIV launches on PlayStation 4 in August. For those interested, SNK and Atlus are hosting a panel and official side tournament this weekend at Evo.

XSplit Acquires Challonge and Player.Me

The creators of XSplit, SplitmediaLabs, have acquired both Challonge and Player.Me as part of a $10 million investment deal to create a unified platform which connects players and streamers with content they want to see. This creates a grand triumvirate of products under the SplitmediaLabs banner as Challonge creates the tournament brackets, Player.Me helps players find said tournaments and then XSplit streams the whole thing to the world.

The main goal out of these acquisitions is to drive discovery–things like viewers finding tournament streams that they may not have seen before, or linking tournament organizers with streamers so that they can stream their next event to a wider audience. It will be a while before we see the tangible effects of this new partnership but it should help TOs market their events to a targeted audience while giving players more places to compete and tournaments to watch.

Darkrai Announced as Pokkén Tournament’s First DLC Character

As we reported a few weeks ago, Pokkén Tournament was set to reveal its first DLC character today. Well, the folks at Bandai Namco delivered on that promise a short while ago with a trailer for the upcoming character, Darkrai.

Darkrai will be playable next week in arcades in Japan, but there’s no news yet about whether or not he will be hitting the Wii U version on nearer shores and, by extension, whether or not he will be free if he does arrive. Pokkén players have had plenty of practice gazing longingly over the pond to the Japanese arcades, so if we have to wait a little while, we can probably manage.

Daigo Umehara to Participate in Reddit AMA Live from Evo This Friday

Back in 2014, Daigo Umehara took to Reddit to answer the questions of his fans in the form of an Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread. While a number of good questions arose from that discussion, much has changed since just shy of two years ago: a new iteration of Street Fighter is in the hands of players worldwide, and Umehara himself now fights beneath the banner of two major sponsors, Twitch and Red Bull. With these things in mind, the time is ripe for the community to pick The Beast’s brain once again.

If you’ve got some burning questions for the most recognizable name in the fighting game community, the folks at r/StreetFighter will be running a brand new AMA session with Umehara this Friday beginning at 4 PM PDT.

The actual AMA session is set to run for just one hour, but a thread for brainstorming questions is already live. If you’re looking to participate, head on over to get involved in the discussion!

Panda Global Officially Introduces Their Wandering Warrior, Trela

Despite joining Panda Global just before CEO, the team has not had the chance to officially introduce their latest signing to the world, that being the Ryu specialist Alberto “Trela” Miliziano. As such, they’ve created a short video interviewing their newest player, talking about his competitive drive, his connection to the traveling karate master, as well as some of his previous characters that he has to draw from should the need arise.

He makes it clear that he is not dropping Ryu any time soon, despite his shaky performance at CEO. Much like Trela wanting to see Ryu evolve and grow as a character, Panda Global wants him to mature and improve as a player, with this attitude being one of the main reasons Trela agreed to join up with the team. Despite being known for his Ryu, Trela states in the video that he has actually returned to playing Shulk, using the Bidou controller style to hopefully crack that character open like he did with Ryu. He even says that he’s been messing around with using Bidou with Cloud, Robin and even Charizard so you may see them sometime in the future.

In my Evo preview for Smash 4, I tipped Trela as one of the 8 players to watch so keep an eye on this Texan during the coming weekend.

BAS Talks to PVP Live about Street Fighter V, His Upcoming CvS 2 Side Tournament at Evo 2016, and More

Ryo “BAS” Yoshida is one of the most legendary competitors in the fighting game community. Making his name in Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Capcom vs. SNK 2, BAS has become almost synonymous with the latter.

PVP Live’s Chris Bahn recently caught up with BAS and got a chance to talk to him about a number of topics, including Street Fighter V and whether or not he plans to compete, his thoughts on Evo, and keeping CvS2 alive.

Regarding Capcom’s latest numbered Street Fighter iteration, BAS states that he feels that it’s gone “back to old Street Fighter series.”

As for competing in it, he says that he’s “not good enough to compete in the tournament yet,” but that he does have fun playing the game.  That said, he says that the skill gap between him and the top players isn’t that big compared to Street Fighter IV, since he was able to pick up the game at the beginning, unlike the latter which he went into later in the game’s life.  Additionally, he does state that he wants to eventually be able to come back to the top 8 at the main stage of Evo.

Speaking of Evo, he also gave out his predictions for what he thinks Street Fighter V’s top 8 will be this Sunday. His personal picks are, in no particular order, Tokido, RZR|Infiltration, EG|Momochi, RZR|Fuudo, Haitani, Kazunoko, Mago, and MCZ|Daigo.

Despite all this Street Fighter V talk, Capcom vs. SNK 2 still has a special place in his heart, which is why BAS is once again hosting a side tournament for the game this Saturday at Evo. BAS talks about how old games such as CvS2 are still loved and played and why Evo is still the best place to host side events like this for them.

In addition to this, Bahn asks him about what he’d like to see in a Capcom vs. SNK 3. While he talks about how a CvS3 should have the best of both companies, his biggest request for it is that it have a custom combo system, simply because he loves custom combos.

Of course, this isn’t all that they talk about; head on over to PVP Live to read the rest of the interview.

BAS’s Capcom vs. SNK 2 side tournament at Evo will take place on Saturday, July 16 with sign ups starting at 1:00 PM.

The King of Fighters XIV Demo Coming to PlayStation Network in Hong Kong Next Week

Those following SNK’s official Twitter account may have recently been witness to a bit of a brouhaha when they mistakenly Tweeted that the demo of the game was out. While they quickly corrected the Tweet, the reaction of fans showed how hungry many of them were for a chance to try the game out before release.

Well, take heart, as it seems that a demo for the game will be forthcoming after all. According to Chinese gaming news site A9VG, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that a demo for the King of Fighters XIV is set to be released on PlayStation Network in Hong Kong next Wednesday, July 20.

No word has been given on who will be playable in the demo or what modes will be available.

Additionally, whether or not other regions will also receive a demo version of the game is unknown. That said, with SNK holding a panel at Evo, there might be a chance of an announcement then.

Team SoloMid Announces That Leffen Will Be Unable to Attend Evo 2016

In some bitter news for TSM fans looking for the Godslayer to make some heads roll at this year’s Evo, William “Leffen” Hjelte will, sadly, not be able to make it to the event. In a press release on TSM’s website, it has been revealed that while Leffen’s visa application had finally been processed and he had been successfully screened by a US embassy, his previous deportation when he last tried to enter the US meant that his application was subject to additional background checks.

These additional checks could take up to 60 days and unfortunately, Leffen did not receive his letter of approval in time to compete at Evo. While this is incredibly disappointing for Melee fans heading into the weekend, Leffen will be able to attend US tournaments as soon as he does receive his letter of approval. Expect his possible return at Super Smash Con in August, should all the paperwork go through.
