See Android 17 in action in his Dragon Ball FighterZ reveal trailer; Halloween Z-Capsules arriving this week

The fan-favorite Android gets his own character slot very soon.

Not content to be a mere assist on a number of Android 18’s moves, Android 17 is coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ as a selectable fighter all his own. In the official reveal trailer below, Bandai Namco gives us a quick look at what the “MVP” of the Tournament of Power is bringing into the battle.

Android 17 and Cooler will be joining the roster in the DLC 4 pack in the near future. Dragon Ball FighterZ also arrives on the Nintendo Switch later this week, on September 28. Halloween-themed content (including stamps, alternate colors, and exclusive versions of lobby avatars) will also be appearing in Z-Capsules this week, starting September 26.

New leak reveals Samurai Shodown and SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy characters, The King of Fighters XV in development

With its recent announcement, many people are speculating on who will be included in Samurai Shodown‘s cast. Now, a known source has not only leaked possible characters for Samurai Shodown, but future DLC characters for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy as well.

DasVergeben (who hinted at the existence of the new Samurai Shodown months ago) has given out the identities of two characters being added to SNK’s Samurai Shodown revival: Rimururu and Shiki. Of these two, it’s the latter whose inclusion is interesting, seeing as she’s never actually been in a 2D Samurai Shodown game, despite being popular enough to be included in crossovers such as SvC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom and NEO GEO Battle Coliseum.

In addition to this, he mentions while he hasn’t been told about the full roster, he can confirm that it will include characters not shown in the painting in the announce trailer.

As for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, he mentions that the remaining DLC characters for the game will be a female Skullomania, Miss X (Iori’s cross dressing alter-ego from SNK Gals Fighters), and Janne d’Arc from World Heroes.

Finally, he states that SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is a “side project” for SNK. The two main games they’re working on are Samurai Shodown and the as of yet un-announced The King of Fighters XV, which is still very early in development.

Of course, regardless of DasVergeben’s track record, we do encourage our readers to take all leaks with a grain of salt.

FrameWhisperer explains why Wall Bounces aren’t working in Tekken 7 Season 2

“Season 2 is a huge success overall … but it’s unfortunate that ‘Wall Bounces’ are way too weak.”

When the Season 2 trailer first dropped for Tekken 7, the appearance of “Wall Bounce” — what was previously a Geese only mechanic — was as mystifying as it was terrifying. Damage is so high already when you get slapped into a wall — how can you make them better, and why would you?

Whatever fears people had of its strength, though, it seems like the exact opposite ended up being the problem: The stage spacing requirements, coupled with several characters having their lone wall bounce move locked behind a string, has led to this new mechanic being a novelty, at best. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though, as FrameWhisperer points out in his latest analysis of the new mechanic — just a disappointing one.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will finally hit arcades in Japan in 2019

After the Capcom Pro Tour Japanese Premier finals finished up at Tokyo Game Show, Ono came on stage to announce that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition would be arriving in Japanese Arcades sometime next year.

While already three years into the game’s lifespan, this could provide a strong resurgence in the Japanese player-base considering their original roots with the franchise. The game cabinet will be played on Vewlix hardware, and have a USB slot for those who may prefer playing on a traditional console gamepad or their own arcade stick.

Lastly, the slides detailed a planned Location Test for the release October 5th-7th, of this year. Considering the way Capcom has handled location tests with previous titles, one has to wonder if a balance update is also in the works for the game. Although much more pertinent to Japan, it’s exciting for Street Fighter fans the world over that Capcom has found the support to finally bring their newest entry into the series to the arcades they called home for the past few decades, and can hopefully bolster a rekindled passion for the game going forward!

Nintendo fulfills the wish of terminal cancer patient to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I don’t know what it’s like to find out what your expiration date is, and to know that it’s soon. I imagine, to handle that information, requires a great deal of strength, reflection, and maturity. On the other side, to respect someone going through something like terminal cancer, such as what Smash player Chris “SpookyWoobler” Taylor currently faces, requires maturity as well. And empathy. Real, red-blooded human empathy.

That isn’t a quality usually assigned to mega corporations, but let it be said unequivocally — whatever individuals heard about Chris’s story at Nintendo: they have that empathetic quality and maturity.

After surviving and beating back cancer treatment three times, Chris received the news that there was nothing left to do about Round 4, and that he had lost. Some months later, he expressed his very understandable fear that he might not make it to see Super Smash Brothers Ultimate‘s release. This, through the strange power of Twitter, made its way to Nintendo themselves, whom showed up with an E3 build at his doorstep and gave him and two close friends a few hours with the game itself.

This story was originally reported and organized by Nintendo Everything, and can be read over on their site.

Good on Nintendo for setting an example. We don’t know how many other gaming companies could or would organize such an act of empathy. Preferably, let’s never have to find out.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction Special Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch

The fighting game library of Nintendo’s Switch portable console hybrid continues to grow! At the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, Arc System Works announced that a port of BlazBlue: Central Fiction is coming the system.

The version of the game coming to the Switch is specifically called BlazBlue: Central Fiction Special Edition — as for what exactly being a “Special Edition” entails for the Switch port, no details so far have been revealed. They also didn’t reveal what the release date for BlazBlue: Central Fiction Special Edition.

Until Arc System Works gives us more information, the most special thing about BBCFSE is its mystery — well, that and it being the first mainline BlazBlue title to appear on the Switch.

Tekken 7 Season 2 Roundup: Anna 50/50s at wall, Lei Rage Drive setups, and more!

Another day, another tech roundup for Tekken 7 Season 2. You know the drill by now — the community is working hard to break down Season 2, and we’re here to collect their discoveries. Let’s jump in!

Let’s open up today with some Anna tech, courtesy of UYU_Fergus — since she can spike off a wall combo, she gets this incredibly juicy 50/50 at the wall.

He’d also like to remind you that Anna’s RA can be performed from crouch, giving her a uniquely strong punish tool in specific match-ups:

Scallywag 93 covers Claudio’s changes, and explains why we were all wrong about our fear of Claudio’s starburst-less moves.

REEKEE shows off a juggle into Heihachi’s 10-string. Disrespectful and damaging.

xMTSento developed some of Xiaoyu’s most disgusting setups in Season 1, and it’s no surprise he’s got more dirty tricks in Season 2.

And closing us out today is Mellowlink, who gives a rundown on the ups and downs of each of Lei’s Rage Drives, with setups to boot.

Thanks to everyone that submitted content to us! If you have some Tekken 7 tech you’d like to share with the world, reach out to us through our tipline.

Inferno leaked as an unlockable mimic character in Soul Calibur VI

The Eternal Flame of Soul Edge’s will reignites!

With the game’s release now less than a month away — as well as the 2018 Tokyo Game Show in full-swing — there has been an absolute massive amount of news and footage trickling out for Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Soul Calibur VI. While we’ve already seen the official reveals of Cervantes de Leon and Raphael Sorel, as well as a large amount of footage from pro players Kayane and Hayatei, another huge leak has apparently sprung: Inferno, the flaming physical embodiment of Soul Edge.

The series starting titular antagonist is reportedly obtainable after reaching Level 20 in the Soul Chronicle mode, taking up the currently-open slot in the middle of the character select screen between Sophia and Geralt, and will serve as the game’s Mimic character, who will battle with the styles of randomly-chosen fighters among the entire available cast by generating weapons from his body, just as he did back in Soul Calibur I.

YouTuber Dynasty speculates that, due to the text displayed upon acquiring him, that there could possibly be other “Bonus” characters, but that obviously remains to be seen. You can see the full video, as well as some images of Inferno on Twitter, below.

What do you think of this latest news? Are you excited to see the Classic Boss officially return to the Stage of History? Are you disappointed that he appears to be a Mimic character, ala Edge Master or Mokujin? Or are you hoping for some more secret unlockable characters that haven’t been revealed yet, when the game launches? Sound off in the Comments section.

Soul Calibur VI will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam PC on Friday, October 19th.
