CEOtaku 2018 streaming live from Orlando, Florida

America’s dedicated anime fighting game event is back for its fourth year! CEOtaku 2018 from CEO Gaming is bringing hundreds of players from around the world to Orlando, Florida for a weekend of fast-paced, high-flying zany action from your favorite type of fighter. Capcom Pro Tour Japan Premier 2018 streaming live from TGS 2018 in Chiba, Japan

While Europe has its Capcom Pro Tour Regional Final, Japan will have its own CPT Premier Event with the annual Tokyo Game Show tournament. The tourney is massive, with over 700 registered players set to compete with over 10 million Yen (~88,850 USD) and precious Global Ranking Points on the line.

Unsurprisingly a large number of top players from Japan, the rest of Asia and beyond will be participating over the weekend, including Verloren, NL, PoongKo, JeonDDing, Xian, Oil King, Xiaohai, Justin Wong, Ricki Ortiz, Commander Jesse, Tokido, Daigo Umehara, Fuudo, sako, gachikun, Fujimura, Bonchan, Momochi, Nemo, Kazunoko, Mago, stormKUBO, Machabo, moke and many, many more.

As is standard for Premier Events, watch live on the Capcom Fighters Twitch channel. Brackets are available on Smash.gg. Play begins with pools Saturday at 10 AM JST (Friday 9 PM EDT, 6 PM PDT) and continues Sunday with the Finals at 2:30 PM JST (1:30 AM EDT, Saturday 10:30 PDT).

The Heroines strut their stuff in these combo videos for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy from Combonauts and Dark Chaotix

Content creators show off what the Heroines can do.

Amid the game’s general weirdness and smothering fan service, it was soon discovered that SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy has a fairly robust combo system, enabling some impressive displays of combo virtuosity.

Combonauts is naturally right in on that, as can bee seen in these mind-boggling sequences for Mai Shiranui and Zarina.

Dark Chaotix has been working on this game as well, as evidenced in these videos showing off what Shermie, Terry, and Leona are capable of in their new setting.

We’re sure to see more of these in the future, especially as the game’s first DLC Heroine Thief Arthur is now available.

Nintendo chooses not to renew its trademark for Custom Robo

Nintendo’s robotic build ‘n’ battle series appears to be mothballed.

For fans of Nintendo’s own answer to VIRTUAL-ON, the Custom Robo games, there’s some bad news. Nintendo has apparently opted not to renew their trademark for “Custom Robo”, which pretty much ensures that Nintendo is done with the series, at least under that name.

Nintendo’s Custom Robo franchise spanned a number of games in Japan, but only saw two official releases in North America: Custom Robo (“Custom Robo: Battle Revolution” in Japan) for the GameCube, and Custom Robo Arena for the Nintendo DS. As part of the functional family of robot-piloting arena fighters, players customized their mechs with special abilities and took them into the fight in 3D battlegrounds.

While we can now discount seeing a new title in this series for the Switch — and probably no re-releases, either — we may see the series return in another form, only time will tell. It also calls into question whether the “Ray-Mk. III” mech Assist Trophy will be a part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — something we’ll have to watch for in December.

Hayate EIN shares Astaroth, Talim gameplay preview for SoulCalibur VI

Hayate EIN, French SoulCalibur pro and YouTuber, has been incredibly gracious the past few days. In a continuing effort to share as much SoulCalibur VI info as he can, he’s following up yesterday’s Final Build preview with some short footage of his first try-outs with newly added characters Talim and Astaroth.

One of the most surprising changes Astaroth has is a new armored, slow command grab — certainly a different take on the way he worked before, if this is meant to replace his old command grabs.

Talim’s 33A seems to be capable of dominating close range again, and her new wind blast from her auto-dodge does an absurd amount of damage.

Namco to perform online ranked test for Soul Calibur VI on Sept. 28th for PlayStation 4 and XboxOne

What are you doing on Sept 28th? No, you’re not. Shut up, sit down, and get ready to play Soul Calibur VI, instead.

Out of nowhere, Namco has announced a Soul Calibur VI network test for the 28th on XboxOne and PlayStation 4. All you have to do is download the client on the 27th, login on the 28th, and play with one of the 15 characters unlocked right at the start. Sadly, it seems like PC players will be left out of this surprise gift — for now, at least.

The SCVI Ranked Beta runs until the 30th at 8PM PDT.

2018 Injustice 2 Pro Series Grand Finals set for Tuesday, November 13th in Chicago; Tickets now available

With the final Premier Event, SCR 2018, now in the books, NetherRealm Studios has finally announced the date and location for the Finals of the 2018 Injustice 2 Pro Series. 16 of the strongest heroes and villains from around the world will descend upon Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday, November 13th to compete for a $100,000 prize pool and the title of Injustice 2 World Champion.

If you’d like to attend the event in person and experience all of the hype first-hand, tickets for the event are now available at injustice2proseriesgrandfinals.com, courtesy of TheTicketFairy. For the $8.00 USD General Admission price, (including fees) ticket holders will have exclusive access to the preliminary rounds of the competition from when doors officially open at 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM CT, as well as the Semi-Finals and Finals, scheduled to take place from 8:00 PM -10:00 PM. You must be 17 years old or older to attend. The battles will fought at the PRYSM Nightclub in Chicago.

With 13 of the 16 participants currently locked in, the competition in Liga Latina, the Injustice 2 Intercontinental Championship, as well as the Last Chance Qualifier tournament at East Coast Throwdown, will only increase in its intensity — as this event promises to be quite the spectacle for fans of Injustice 2. For those of us who prefer to enjoy the action from the comfort of our own homes, the tournament will of course be streamed at twitch.tv/netherrealm, as well as the InjusticeGame YouTube Channel and Facebook page. Pokkén Tournament DX will receive a balance patch, version 1.3.3, on September 26th

After another successful year at the Pokémon World Championships, Namco and the Pokémon Company are continuing their partnership with a new balance patch — and it’s dropping next week!

The majority of the currently-translated changes are bug fixes: for example, more than a few of the proposed changes involve fixing issues where Croagunk and Blastoise would get up earlier from various opponents’ grabs. The notes are currently being translated from the Japanese site by the good folks at Pokkén Arena, and you can read them here. (Or check out the Japanese site yourself here.)

As it stands right now, it’s looking like the patch is more for refinement than anything else. Considering the wild diversity of the current season of Pokkén (grand finals at Worlds featured Empoleon and Gengar, for god’s sake!), perhaps this is a good thing.

Capcom Fighters’ Street Fighter V highlights from SoCal Regionals 2018 show off Bonchan’s Sagat, SonicPunk, and more!

There’s always a tendency to fear for the tournament viability of new characters. If SCR 2018 taught us anything this past weekend, though, it’s that there’s plenty of firepower in the two most recent newcomers to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — Sagat and G.

New characters tearing up tournament vets only make up a few entries in Capcom Fighters‘s highlights real for SCR 2018, though. Check out the video above to see champions fall, SonicFox make an assist in a 1-on-1 game, and the slyest use of Menat’s V-Trigger I yet.
