Ibuki to Join Street Fighter V Alongside Cinematic Story Expansion in June

When Capcom first announced that Ibuki was the next character coming to Street Fighter V, they declined to give an actual release date. A new update from Capcom Japan, however, gives us an idea of when she’ll finally hit the game. According to Capcom’s Saikyo Blog, Ibuki will now be coming alongside the cinematic story mode expansion later this June.

While no concrete release date was ever given for Street Fighter V’s third DLC character, this technically does count as a delay since the official release schedule promised that the character would come out in May.

This isn’t the first time that content for Street Fighter V has been delayed. The game’s “Zenny Shop” that would allow players to convert real money to in-game currency was also originally meant to release in March alongside Alex.

In addition to this announcement, they also acknowledge their mistake with the recent trailer for Ibuki–which has a mouse cursor pop up about halfway through it–and stated that a fixed trailer is coming soon.

Gargos Begins the Invasion in Official Character Trailer

An official character trailer was recently released for Killer Instinct’s longtime antagonist, Gargos. The release of the trailer came just hours after the demon overlord was made available for play to owners of the game’s Ultra Edition.

Thanks to Iron Galaxy’s gratuitous gameplay reveal stream, fans have already gotten a good look at at the winged deity’s play style and move set, but the trailer offers a little more of his trademark condescension. In godlike fashion, Gargos goes into an ominous monologue and proceeds to bash the skulls of some of Killer Instinct’s top contenders.

If you’ve not yet had a chance to give Gargos a go for yourself, be sure to check out the trailer below.

Though this is his first appearance in the franchise as a playable character, KI fans know that Gargos has always played a crucial role in the game’s story. Now that his fate is in the hands of the players, It’ll be interesting to see how things play out from a warrior God’s perspective.

Learn to Keep Out Every Character in Street Fighter V with this Guile Zoning Guide

While Guile’s corner loops and offensive pressure when stocked with V-Trigger and a full Critical Art are well-documented, many players have found it difficult to mount the defensive, zoning-based gameplan that he is known for in previous iterations, despite Combofiend declaring that he would be a “moving fortress.”

After logging in 400+ games with the “Air Slasher” in SFV, known content creator LiangHuBBB has created a guide offering some helpful zoning tips for anyone looking for more of a keep away style of play with their Guile.

He notes that, of the other available characters in the cast, Zangief, Rashid, Bridie, Ken, F.A.N.G and Necalli are “Easy to Keep Away&#8221$$ M. Bison, Chun-Li, Nash, Ryu and Alex, are “Medium” to Keep Away&#8221$$ while Karin, R. Mika, Laura, Vega and Dhalsim are ‘Hard to Keep Away.”

First, he recommends using Guile’s V-Skill, Sonic Blade, to bait jump-ins, which will allow you to land an anti-air Flash Kick afterwards, which will also juggle into Sonic Hurricane, if you have the meter.

Next, he notes that Guile’s air throws, Flying Mare and Flying Buster Drop, both have high priority, which will allow him to jump and air throw any jump-in on reaction after forcing movement with a Sonic Boom, despite the move’s increased recovery from Street Fighter IV. He can also use his Bazooka Knee command normal to move forward and keep up pressure, while maintaining a charge.

He also mentions that, during a fireball war, Guile’s Sonic Booms will always recover faster, allowing him to jump in over a Hadoken for a full-combo punish while his foe is still in recovery frames. Additionally, Guile’s Flash Kick possesses more range than any Shroyuken-like special move in the game, making it perfect for AAing the opponent’s neutral jumps, especially if they’re trying to escape your corner pressure.

Guile even has an answer against movement options like Nash’s V-Trigger, Sonic Move, which he can AA with an auto-correct Flash Kick every time, as long as he’s pre-charging it by holding down, even after throwing a Sonic Boom.

Though you may not be able to punish as many things with Guile’s Spinning Back Knuckle in SFV compared to USFIV, it is still a great tool to stop an enemy’s forward movement, and will still connect on hit after a Sonic Boom.

Check Out Some King of Fighters XIV Exhibition Footage from Combo Breaker

The King of Fighters XIV was at the recently concluded Combo Breaker 2016 event in St. Charles, Illinois. While the build shown by SNK was still the older, 24-character build of the game (and not the newer build being shown in Japan), it still represented the first time said build was playable in North America.

With this in mind, more than a few players were on hand to try the game out and play some matches. Players such as Bzerk, Kenshiro, James Jr, KCopedro, JDR, Terry, and more took place on some exhibition matches on the stream.

For those who missed it, Khaos Gaming has uploaded the footage of these matches onto YouTube. Check them out below.

Dieminion Considering Dropping Guile in Street Fighter V

Kevin “YOMI|Dieminion” Landon, one of America’s top Guile players throughout the life of Street Fighter IV, recently took to Twitter to offer his thoughts on the “Air Slasher” in Street Fighter V.

You can see his Tweets embedded below.

Dieminon has been fond of F.A.N.G as of late, using the master of the Poison Hand to place 5th at the recent Toryuken V event, while also securing a 49th place finish with Nash earlier this year at Final Round 19.

Though players such as EG|Justin Wong and Liquid|Nuckledu have had recent success with the Family Man at Canada Cup Vancouver Series and CEO Prologue, it appears the jury is still out when it comes to his overall viability in Street Fighter V.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament at Apex Cancelled Due to Lack of Entrants

Apex has been the premier tournament for the Super Smash Bros. series ever since the event started in 2009. As such, it’s hard to imagine an Apex that isn’t running almost every version of the game; however, it seems that that is going to be the case for this year’s event.

Both the singles and doubles tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Brawl at Apex 2016 have been cancelled. According to Apex’s new organizers, a team lead by Bifuteki, this was due to low registration numbers for both. Prior to this, Bifuteki had stated that the tournaments were under threat of cancellation if they did not break the 16 entrants mark. This news, obviously, means that both tournaments did not reach that number.

Registration numbers for Apex in general have seen a major drop off from last year. Aside from Brawl, three other games are also at risk of cancellation: Mortal Kombat XL, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Killer Instinct.

This year’s tournament was moved from its usual January slot to one in the middle of June. The move puts it in direct conflict with the DreamHack Smash Championship in Sweden, which may partly be to blame for the low registration numbers.

Apex 2016 is set to take place from June 17 to June 19. Registration for the event will remain open until June 6.

Check Out Shun’ei, Hein, Yuri, and Kukri’s Climax Moves from the Latest King of Fighters XIV Build

The latest public build of The King of Fighters XIV was shown off recently at Akihabara in Tokyo, Japan. As previously reported, this new build features a bunch of characters who have never been playable before.

While footage from these events in Japan tends to be hard to come by, some players were able to sneak out some off-screen video. Specifically, videos of the Climax moves of some of the newly playable characters have been shared online.

Makky_CYS and Bignog shared footage of Yuri Sakazaki and Kukri’s Climaxes on Twitter, and the folks at Orochinagi have compiled them into a single video.

Meanwhile, Dragon Ball Super has posted videos of the Climaxes of Geese’ butler Hein, and new protagonist Shun’ei.

Ibuki Brings Bombs, Kunai and Energy Blasts to Street Fighter V

Late last night following the Combo Breaker top 8, we got our first look at Ibuki’s upcoming Street Fighter V incarnation. While the trailer does offer a good glimpse at the tools Ibuki will bring to the fight, it doesn’t tell us everything. With that in mind, Harrison took to the Capcom-Unity blog to fill everyone in on some more details regarding the nature of Ibuki’s tactics in the new game.

Anyone who spent some time facing off against her in the previous installment of the series is likely curious how Capcom translated the setplay monster over to the fifth game. The answer(s), at least at this point in time, seems to be bombs, kites, and way more kunai. Unlike Ibuki in previous titles, the Street Fighter V version can only stock five kunai at any given time before having to “quickly obtain another set,” though we’re not yet certain how she goes about doing so.

V-Skill: Tenrai

Ibuki V-Skill

Ibuki’s V-Skill, Tenrai, causes her to charge an energy blast which she channels through her palm. This blast range can be increased by holding the charge for a longer duration.

V-Trigger: Isshaku Horokudama

Ibuki V-Trigger

Ibuki’s V-Trigger causes her to toss a bomb on to the stage with a fuse timer that can be changed by holding different directions. The bomb has three default timer settings, but can apparently be triggered through other means–perhaps with a kunai, as hinted in the trailer–but there may be even more ways to shorten the fuse to keep opponents on their toes.

Critical Art: Kachofugetsu

Ibuki Critical Art

This is the move that closes out Ibuki’s trailer, and Harrison describes it as “the pinnacle of Ibuki’s ninjutsu training.” She opens with a strike to her opponent’s leg before taking them into the sky to blast them with a massive ball of energy.

If you watched the trailer, you certainly noticed that Capcom showcased Ibuki on a daytime variant of the Kanzuki Estate. This stage, aptly dubbed “Estate at Noon,” will be available for play in the near future.

Anyone who takes a look over Capcom’s post will likely notice that Ibuki doesn’t currently have a release date; we can confirm that she wasn’t surreptitiously added to the roster overnight either, and while it would be great to give her a shot before June rolls around, we’re definitely running out of time.

Harrison closes out the post promising that June is going to be an intense month for Street Fighter V players, thanks to the expanded story mode “and more surprises.”
