Samurai Shodown, Dead or Alive 6, & Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection are part of Sony’s Tokyo Game Show lineup

Sony has opened their official website for the 2018 Tokyo Game Show, and they’ve revealed the games that they’re bringing to the event. Part of this lineup includes a few fighting games that many people may be looking forward to.

The fighting games that are part of Sony’s TGS 2018 lineup are Samurai ShodownDead or Alive 6, and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. The first two shouldn’t be surprising, considering that they were featured in their pre-TGS “PlayStation LineUp Tour” livestream. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection may have already launched in the West, but the Japanese version has yet to be released owing to Capcom adding Japanese language support, among other things.

Of the three, only Dead or Alive 6 and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection are listed as playable at the show floor. Samurai Shodown on the other hand is only listed as having a trailer. Whether or not this is a new trailer or simply the reveal trailer from last week is yet unknown.

The 2018 Tokyo Game Show takes place from September 20 to 23 at the Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

Tekken 7 Season 2 roundup: Lei sidestepping Snake Stance, back-turned spacing glitch, and more!

1,600+ changes.

I feel like this bears repeating every time a new Tekken post is made on this site — there were 1,600+ changes in Season 2 of Tekken 7. (Insert a joke here about 50% of those changes just being Lei’s movelist.) It’s a new day, so let’s take a look at what the community has cooked up today with the Season 2 changes:

Let’s start off with mastermind’s analysis of Season 2 Kazumi, whom he feels is one of the most changed characters in the new season.

Glad to see this silly back-turned glitch survived the patch. Thanks, REEKEE.

Here are some combos using Alisa’s Season 2 wall bounce, and a surprising link you may not have known about.

It can be difficult to know where to start with Lei, especially when there’s some actions he can do that aren’t listed in the movelist. NurseLee has some tips and tricks to get you started with some of Lei’s stance properties and hidden moves:

Since her release, the story of Anna has more or less been: “If you are willing to learn, Anna will out-damage your opponents.” Case in point, A A JOB‘s latest demonstration:

Let’s close out today’s post with EvilBowlOfCereal‘s examination of the new combo possibilities of Katarina. Katarina never hurt for damage, so these powerful combos combined with her new utility make her a frightening beast.

Thanks to everyone that submitted content to us! If you have some Tekken 7 tech you’d like to share with the world, reach out to us through our tipline.

ProviderOfSouls explains the depth and inner workings of Power Stone’s system mechanics

The early part of 1999 featured the release of two beloved item-using fighting games — Nintendo’s Smash Bros. series and Capcom’s Power Stone series. The latter, while remembered fondly, has been somewhat overlooked in recent times by both the FGC and its own developer. ProviderOfSouls wishes to change that with his detailed breakdown of the game’s mechanics and a new home for competitive play:

If you were unfamiliar with this 3-button arcade fighter or looking to play some games with those that appreciate its meta as much as ProviderOfSouls does, check out the video above or hop into the Power Stones Discord!

Halloween costumes for Abigail, Falke, Kolin, and Guile are coming to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Capcom doubles-down on costume announcements today with four more seasonally-spooky outfits.

Not content to lead up to Halloween with spooky costumes from the Darkstalkers series, Capcom has also revealed that four more Halloween outfits are inbound to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Abigail becomes a rampaging cyclops, Kolin is a witch, Falke is now a goddess of death, and Guile joins the legions of the undead.

Like most premium costumes, these will run you $3.99 USD apiece. They’ll be creeping into the Shop alongside the new Darkstalkers Crossover Costumes on September 25th. If you missed a prior year’s Halloween outfits (or the “Spooky Arena” stage), Capcom is also offering them in bundles so you can catch up.

Mikado Arcade Virtua Fighter 3tb tournament VOD now available

Mikado Arcade, home of some of the world’s highest levels of play in a wide range of arcade games, is a venue we attempt to cover semi-regularly here at SRK. Inevitably, this means we’ll run into a lot of Virtua Fighter 3tb tournaments — it is, after all, where the Virtua Fighter 3tb World Cup was just held — both because the Japanese scene loves themselves some VF, and because VF3tb is a specialty of Mikado’s.

It isn’t just because its a retro game, though. VF3tb is unique even among other Virtua Fighter entries. It added a fourth button, the “Dodge” button, which was a design decision so controversial that it would be removed in Virtua Fighter 4 and replaced with the Success/Fail “Evade” system.

It also features the most wild stages in the Virtua Fighter series, with several stages featuring uneven floors, staircases, and more. While creative and impressive, its perhaps for the best that Sega pulled back from this design decision in future installments — as evidenced by the teleport throw glitch far into the tournament bracket.

French pro Hayate breaks down Nightmare’s move list for SoulCalibur VI

French SoulCalibur player Hayate is one of the Calibur community’s living legends, likely best known for his sweep of Team Belgium with bottom tier Yunsung in SoulCalibur II. More than that, he’s one of the game’s best minds and the one of the French scene’s hardest working promoters: so it’s no surprise that he’s been putting out excellent content covering the gameplay of SoulCalibur VI‘s cast. Today, he turns his attention to the dramatically-improved Nightmare.

Hayate calls him “the scariest character in the game” for good reason — Nightmare can bully his opponents at ranges most others can’t fight him at, and disrespect frame disadvantage with his powerful armor moves. Managing Night Terror states will be the primary focus of both Nightmare and his opponent — check out the video above to learn more!

Pre-ordering Dragon Ball FighterZ is the only way to get Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden on Switch

As reported some time ago, Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Switch release would bring with it a port of the 1993 Super Famicom fighter Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden. Now, Bandai Namco has confirmed that this port will only be pre-order bonus for Dragon Ball FighterZ on Switch. That’s right, the Switch port of Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden will be available exclusively for those who pre-order Dragon Ball FighterZ for Nintendo’s portable console hybrid. In addition to this, Bandai Namco has also confirmed that this is the only way to get the game — at least for now.

Bandai Namco is no stranger to pre-order bonuses like this. However, while previous efforts have eventually received a standalone release, it seems that they have no plans to do so for Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden. In addition to access to Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden, pre-orders will also come with early access to the Super Saiyan Blue versions of Goku and Vegeta.

Dragon Ball FighterZ for Switch launches on September 28.

Felicia, Morrigan, and Demitri from Darkstalkers coming to Street Fighter V as Crossover Costumes for Menat, Chun-Li, and Ed

Even more of the darkness seeps into Street Fighter V‘s character selection screen.

Urien: Donovan costume
Juri: Lilith costume
Menat: Khaibit costume

Street Fighter V has already included three Darkstalkers Crossover Costumes for fans of the Night Warriors: back in March, Urien got a Donovan costume, Juri got an Lilith costume, and Menat dressed up as a Khaibit. But Capcom has just revealed that they aren’t done with the Darkstalkers outfits in SFV, not yet…

Coming September 25 (next Tuesday), Chun-Li gets Morrigan’s outfit, Ed dresses up as Demitri, and Menat gets a second Darkstalkers costume, as the catgirl Felicia. These premium costumes will run the usual $3.99 USD in the SFV Shop — or, for a limited time, you can get all six outfits in a bundle for $14.99. A better deal if you held off on any of the initial three costumes, certainly.

The Collective share in-depth interview with Katarina pro SourPiggy, talks tourney nerves, music, and more

Prior to Season 2, esports team The Collective were an odd entity among Tekken 7 groups for sponsoring multiple Katarina players. Those players were strong threats even when she was low tier — and now with the buffs granted to Katarina in Season 2, The Collective are in a position to threaten top seeds around the world, even more than they were before!

And SourPiggy isn’t someone you want to have the buffs Kat got. A veteran in his own right, SourPiggy shares in today’s interview the path he took to tournament confidence, and how he balances that with his life away from gaming.
