Killer Instinct Composers Offer a Look into the Creation of Mira’s Theme

Bringing a game to life requires the combined effort of many different types of artists. If you’re interested in watching some of that art come to be, celldweller and Atlas Plug have released another inside look at the creation of a Killer Instinct Season 3 character theme, this time for Mira.

Since Mira is an entirely new character, they had the freedom to turn her theme into whatever they saw fit, rather than trying to align it with some past iteration in a previous game. This freedom, in conjunction with some input regarding Mira’s backstory, resulted in the combination of pipe organs, heavy bass, a full orchestra, and more that help bring this new character to life.

Shoryuken Rankings Player Profiles Now Sport Handy Links to Maxoplata Data

If you’ve been around the fighting game community for a while, you’ve probably stopped by our Fighting Games World Rankings page a time or two. The page specializes in gathering as much tournament data as possible without the need for brackets, allowing for ease of coverage on a global scale. This is not without its limitations, however, and prior to today, those looking for match-by-match data for their favorite players needed to find that information elsewhere.

Thanks to an update to our ranking page, interested parties can now follow the appropriate Maxoplata link included in player profiles to take a look at all of the little details for the player in question, including scoring breakdowns and videos on demand where available.

These combined data sets make keeping up with tournament goings-on a breeze, and also offer a great way to easily study up on top players.

Take a Look at Guile’s Current Wardrobe in Street Fighter V

Getting ready for battle involves a good deal of preparation. You need to brush up on combos, punishes, setups, and, of course, you have to decide what to wear. Guile landed last night, and the folks at SFV Mods have already taken the time to compile a video showcasing all of the returning fighter’s duds to make that final–and quite important–step a bit easier on those who’ve taken to slinging Sonic Booms.

In spite of what their YouTube channels name suggests, you’ll see no mods used in this footage; every article of clothing presented exists within the game’s current files. So if you’re looking to select the most eye-catching outfit for your next session of all-American beatdowns, be sure to check out the video below.

Catch Up with Infiltration, Tokido and Snake Eyez with these Interviews from Red Bull Kumite

Last week, we saw some amazing Street Fighter V play at the (now) annual Red Bull Kumite. This, of course, is partly because the event brought together some of the strongest players on the planet.

With so many great players, this was a chance to get to know some of them better, and also to discuss their thoughts on many aspects of Street Fighter V. The folks at Looping Show Game did exactly that, speaking to RZR|Infiltration, Tokido, and Red Bull’s Snake Eyez at the event.

You can check out the interviews below.

The King of Fighters 2000 Coming to PlayStation 4 in May

Slowly but surely SNK has been announcing plans to port more of its classic fighting games to modern consoles. The most recent of these, the Last Blade 2, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita on May. Hot on its heels is another classic SNK fighter from the turn of the millennium.

The latest edition of the PlayStation Blogcast has revealed that the King of Fighters 2000 will be coming to PlayStation 4 in North America on May 3. Specifically, the PlayStation 2 version of the game will be coming to the console as a PS2 Classic title.

King of Fighters 2000 is most notable for the introduction of the Active Striker system. This system allows players to select a fourth character for their team who’s only job was to act as an assist. On a more somber note, the title was also the last King of Fighters game released by the original SNK before its bankruptcy.

Guile’s Mission Begins as Street Fighter V Servers Come Back Online

The pants are pressed, the sleeves are rolled up, the shades are shining, and this list is longer than I intended; it’s Sonic Boom time. After spending most of the daylight hours offline, Street Fighter V’s servers are back up and ready to support players looking to get their first taste of full-on American glory.

Guile will remain available as a free-to-play character until paying for in-game products with Zenny becomes a reality, so be sure to sling some plasma with him before that happens to see if he’s worth your investment.

For a full list of everything this update contains, check out our patch notes preview.

Additionally, if you fancy yourself a content creator–expert or fledgling–feel free to send us your Guile footage! We’re planning on compiling a community roundup dedicated to the returning fighter in the near future and want to share everything we can.

Pick Up Some Proper Punishes in Pokkén Tournament

Just prior to Pokkén Tournament’s console release, a Japanese player by the name of tonosama666 compiled a video filled with information on many of the unsafe or easily avoidable attacks in the game. Earlier this week, a translated version of the video made its way on to YouTube for English speaking audiences to enjoy.

The video does an excellent job pointing out where unsafe situations occur, and offers a nice selection of possible punishes. Though it is based on the Arcade version of the game, nearly all of these situations still exist as presented in the video.

If you’re looking only to pick up a few of these tips at a time, the video ranks each move by threat level, so you can choose which ones should be learned first.
