Killer Instinct Season 3 Playable at Killer Instinct World Cup, PAX South

Microsost and Iron Galaxy Studios have already provided a quick peek at Killer Instinct’s season 3 content via a beta test of guest Battletoads protagonist Rash, but it appears they are prepared to step up their efforts at two upcoming events.

According to lead combat designer Adam “Keits” Heart, preview builds of the upcoming content will be playable at the Killer Instinct World Cup and PAX South, both of which are scheduled for the weekend of January 29 in San Antonio, Texas. But don’t worry if you can’t make it in person, because there are plans to stream a few “treats” for folks stuck at home.

Apart from Rash, we know that both Kim Wu and Tusk will also be part of the playable cast in season 3, but Heart hasn’t commented on what exactly attendees will find in the demo. Stay tuned for more details.

And going back to the Killer Instinct World Cup for a bit, it was recently announced that Shadow Jago will be legal, but they will be holding off on allowing combo assist until it leaves beta. Registration is now open, and event badges will grant you immediate access to the last chance qualifier with no additional cost. Additional details will drop on January 11.

Master Ken’s Basics with Bafael’s Latest Street Fighter V Combo Guide

Bafael continued his series of Street Fighter V combo guides today with an installment dedicated to Ken.

Similar to past uploads, Bafael runs through a variety of basic combos, anti-airs, punishes, confirms, and more in a quest to help beginning players find easy ways to control Mr. Masters. Of course, there’s no guarantee that any of this will be possible in the final release, but it’s good to have in the back of your mind for when the game launches next month.

Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 Gameplay Coming Next Week

Last month, NetherRealm Studios unveiled the characters that will make up Mortal Kombat X’s second Kombat Pack. This time around, returning character Bo’ Rai Cho will be joined by the cyborg mashup Tri-Borg, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Leatherface, and the titular monster of the Alien franchise.

While a short preview video accompanied this announcement, we’re set to get our first taste of gameplay sometime next week, according to a recent tweet from NetherRealm Studios creative director Ed Boon. We’re still unsure if this means every character or just the first to be released, but new footage is new footage.

How do you think each of these characters will play? Give the teaser below another watch and hit us with your best predictions in the comments.

Mortal Kombat X’s Kombat Pack 2 characters will release periodically throughout 2016. Stay tuned for more info.

Big Band Brings Guile’s Theme to Skullgirls

Back when Big Band first joined the Skullgirls cast, we were inundated with videos showcasing his ability to recreate pretty much any piece of music out there. Bugler’s Holiday? Of course. U.N. Owen Was Her? Oh yes.

But it was recently brought to our attention by the fine folks at r/StreetFighter that we missed one. SKT KST, the creator of the videos linked above, also put out another dedicated to one of the most iconic fighting game themes of all time: Guile’s theme! We’ve shared it below to rectify our mistake; check it out and let us know what you think!

Sega Shares Ten Hours of Chaotic APM D-1 FIGHTING FESTIVAL Competition

Just before the year’s end, Sega, Arc System Works, and Koei Tecmo hosted APM D-1 FIGHTING FESTIVAL, a massive tournament highlighting their various properties and the players who excel at playing them.

Competition was held in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION, Koihime Enbu, Blade Arcus from Shining, and Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Last Round, but as Japan is often wont to do, the format was rather…intense. Attendees were given only one game to defeat their opponent, and there wasn’t a losers bracket to use as backup if you lost. Yikes.

Sega recently provided a huge archive of the event’s broadcast, giving folks just under ten hours of footage to enjoy if they missed out on the live stream. Due to its extreme length, we’ve included four separate instances of the video below that jump to an appropriate timestamp to save you some searching.

Some of the players you can expect to see compete include Purepure, Mocchi, Nage, FAB, XYLiSH, Meru, OZ, gamera, and Jawa Curry Akira, among others. Various results can be found in our coverage hub.

Desk Breaks Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Save States

Desk returned today with a brand new Ultra Street Fighter IV video. But this time around, instead of showing off some incredible combos, he’s managed to discover a weird glitch concerning training mode’s save states.

As shown in his demonstration, Desk uses Akuma’s teleport to dodge Sagat’s ultra, leaving him behind the emperor of Muay Thai afterwards. After saving the state of the game during the cinematic, Akuma continues to appear behind Sagat until Desk performs the hitbox bug to zip in front. After that, well…just watch the video below.

While not super game breaking or related to competition in any way, it’s yet another oddity we can add to Street Fighter IV’s history. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Justin Wong, GamerBee Invited to Red Bull Kumite 2016

Red Bull has announced that Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong and AVerMedia’s Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang are the first two players to be invited to compete at Red Bull Kumite 2016 in April.

Much like last year’s invitational, Red Bull Kumite will feature sixteen competitors–fourteen through invitation, two through last chance qualifier–duking it out in a condensed, high-level bracket. This time around, however, play has shifted from Ultra Street Fighter IV to Street Fighter V, forcing even those with a storied fighting game background to adapt to what will then be a two-month old title.

Red Bull Kumite 2016 is scheduled for April 23-24 in Paris, France. Stay tuned for more player reveals as we near those dates.

First 4 Figures Reveals Light-Up Amaterasu Statue, Pre-Orders Open Now

One of the great things about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is that it features a cast pulled from classic Capcom games that haven’t seen recent releases. One of these characters is Amaterasu from Clover Studio’s groundbreaking Okami.

For fans of the furry goddess, First 4 Figures has announced that pre-orders for their Amaterasu figure are now open.

Two versions of the statue are currently available: a regular version, and a special limited edition with built in LED lighting. Both variants come with deluxe full-color packaging, a hand-numbered base, and an authenticity card that allows you to purchase the same product number for future pieces in this series.

The regular edition has a suggested retail price of $349.99 and the limited edition version is $384.99. Take note that First 4 Figures will set the number of limited edition statues to be produced after January 16, so be sure to order it as soon as possible.

Orders are expected to ship sometime in Q3 2016. In the meantime, check out some images of the limited edition figure below.
