Rayman is coming to Brawlhalla as a guest character

Guest characters seem to be all the rage these days, with almost every game adding them to their rosters. The latest game to do so is Blue Mammoth Games’ platform fighter Brawhalla, who will be adding Ubisoft’s Rayman.

Considering that Ubisoft is the publisher for Brawlhalla, it shouldn’t really be a surprise that this character is being added into the game. He will arrive on November 6 — the same date that the game itself arrives on Xbox One, and Switch.

Brawlhalla is currently available for PlayStation 4 and PC.

desk breaks down an “unstun” glitch that Ed can cause in Street Fighter V

With all the myriad of systems that running in a fighting game, it’s no surprise that many can lead to some unintended interactions or glitches. desk, everybody’s favorite combo genius, has put together a new video dedicated to one such glitch in Street Fighter V.

The glitch in question is a result of how hard knockdowns and Ed’s V-Skill work. The upward version of the latter will put opponents into a hard knockdown state. However, if the opponent gets hit before they hit the ground (something Ed can set up by using his V-Trigger I), they lose the hard knockdown state and can now quick rise.

This in itself isn’t the actual “unstun” glitch. The glitch comes from how the removal of the hard knockdown occurs. With the hard knockdown removed, this allows the opponent to quick rise, even if they’ve have been knocked out, or stunned. In the latter case, the opponent can now input any number of attacks after the quick rise, as long as they don’t return to neutral, where in their character will go into the dizzy animation.

desk calls this state after the dizzy state is applied — but before the dizzy animation — the “unstunned” state (hence the name of the glitch). During this state, the opponent cannot be hit until they enter the dizzy animation. As such, using the “unstun” glitch, they can perform any number of attacks, as long as they don’t go into a neutral state.

Of course, actually causing the glitch isn’t easy. Aside from coming from a very specific set up (hitting Ed’s V-Skill while the projectile from his V-Trigger one is active), it also requires that the opponent get dizzied by the V-Trigger, and not the V-Skill itself.

Kinetiquettes to open pre-orders for Terry Bogard diorama to celebrate Fighting EX Layer crossover

SNK characters have been busy lately: Geese is feuding with Tekken 7‘s Heihachi, Iori is introducing Orochi powers to (several) King Arthurs, and Terry Bogard is blazing his way into ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer universe this week. And that’s just on the fighting game front!

It’s that last character, though, that’s been really making waves lately: Terry’s Fighting EX Layer announcement — coupled with her surprise appearance in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzyhas risen the Fatal Fury protagonist’s visibility high enough that Kinetiquettes has decided to jump on board the “Buster Wolf” train.

You can pre-order the Terry figure via Kinetiquettes’s website on the 5th. Conveniently, there’s a timer counting down to coincide with Terry’s FEXL release.

Catch some screens of My Hero Academia’s free DLC character Izuku Midoriya Shoot Style

Bandai Namco recently announced, via Famitsu, that My Hero One’s Justice would be receiving a free DLC character in the form of Izuku Midoriya Shoot Style.

This alternate version of series protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya comes from recent episodes of the series where, following All Might’s suggestion, he develops an alternate Shoot Style focusing on his legs. In-game, this translates to Izuku Midoriya Shoot Style version using a plethora of kick-based techniques, as well as having faster attacks in general than any other character.

For those wanting to see more of Izuku Midoriya Shoot Style, Bandai Namco has released a handful of screenshots of him in action in the game. You can check these out in the gallery below:

Tekken 7 Season 2 Patch Notes have gone live on English and JP Sites

Before Namco ushers in the world of Season 2 into Tekken 7, they’ve released patch notes for all changes made to the pre-existing cast — some 1,600 lines of changes, according to producer Michael Murray.

The changes are laid out on individual character pages on Namco’s Tekken World Tour site: the main directory for these pages can be found here. At the time of this writing, you may have to be a little patient — unsurprisingly, it seems like the whole of the Tekken community stayed up to catch these notes. In the event the site goes down completely, you can always try to read through the JP site’s Patch Notes.

If you’re able to get in, you should sound off in the comments below about your favorite — and least favorite — changes. I imagine more than a few of you have an opinion on Dragunov’s D+2 becoming -1 on hit and losing its ability to force crouch.

[UPDATE: It seems the full upload was not complete on the US Site, so some characters are still missing. If you don’t see your character there, you will need to refer to the JP site until it is uploaded.]

Tekken 7 Season 2 patch notes coming tomorrow, will be “mostly buffs probably”

Start getting ready for the next battle!

Season 2 of Tekken 7 is nearly upon us — with a balance update, new customization items, as well as the return of series veterans Anna Williams and Lei Wulong set for this Thursday, September 6th. Though we’ve already seen a trailer demonstrating the new Wall Bounce mechanic and new moves for certain fighters, fans are still eagerly awaiting the full list of changes to find out the fates of their favorite characters.

Fortunately, that wait will soon be coming to an end. During the re-stream of Summer Jam XII’s Tekken 7 pools at twitch.tv/avoidingthepuddle, game designer Michael Murray, under the user name MISIMAIKERU, noted in the stream chat that he has recently finished translating the patch notes and will be releasing them to the public tomorrow, two days before Season 2 officially begins. He went on to say that there are 1,600 lines of changes, and that most of the alterations will “probably be buffs,” with the goal of increasing the number of characters seen in competitive play during the remainder of the Tekken World Tour.

Additionally, the Tekken World Tour website has been updated with multiple new tabs under the “Latest News” section, such as, a “Main Hub” post for Tekken 7 Season 2 Patch Notes, as well as a “Common” section that will likely cover universal mechanic changes, and character-specific sections for the likes of Noctis, Paul, Heihachi, Devil Jin, Shaheen, Lucky Chloe, and Katarina. Clicking these sections obviously leads to broken links, as they’re still in the process of being constructed, but everything should be fully functional soon. Keep your browser locked on to Shoryuken, as we’ll have a full report about the patch notes as soon as they drop.

The SNK website is counting down to a new game announcement for Sept. 10

With SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy hitting stores in just a few days, some folks may be wondering about what’s next for SNK. Well, it seems that they will be revealing their future plans soon enough!

SNK has just put up a new page on their website with the title “New SNK Game Announcement”. The page lists a countdown to the date September 10, 2018 with the words “A new dawn rises…”

While SNK is known primarily for their fighting game franchises, this doesn’t automatically mean that we’re getting a new Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. Aside from their mobile game efforts, the company also has dabbled in several other genres. For all we know, this “new dawn” could herald them moving back to shmups, platforms, or golf games.

Learn about Studio French Bread’s design philosophy in latest episode of Exploring Fighting Games Extra 8

Learn about the history and design philosophies of Soft Circle French Bread!

Recently, in their 8th episode of “Exploring Fighting Games”, the Chemical Lovers decided to look at the design philosophy behind an increasingly-popular studio in the fighting game community, French Bread. This episode walks us through the team’s humble beginnings as they created small amateur fan games and doujin works. They eventually desired to create a licensed, professional, product, sending a proposal to visual novel company “Type-Moon” requesting to create a fighting game based off of their popular visual novel, Tsukihime.

However, they faced unique challenges when development began, as they had to strictly adhere to the source material, with heavy negotiations on creating each fighter’s moveset and play style. Despite these hurdles, the game they made (Melty Blood) went on to become a hit in Japan. They faced a crossroads with the transition to a larger screen size and increasing popularity of high definition resolution, as they lacked experience, and felt trying to release an HD sequel would be a risky gamble. Thus, they decided to create an original property, that became the game they’re currently known for, Under Night In-Birth.

While the differences between the two titles are vast, they both emphasize battle planner Komone Serizawa’s core beliefs that it is their responsibility to ensure that each fighter plays how player’s initially imagine based off of their looks. You can see the full video below, as well as further discussion in Bas Gros Poing‘s article.
