Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel Offering Free Characters on Release

The Japanese release of Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel saw the inclusion of Senran Kagura’s Homura and Arcana Heart’s Aino Heart as free downloadable content for players who decided to purchase the game early in its life. Earlier today, Siliconera announced that XSEED plans to keep this same promotion when they publish the title in North America, a plan that will save early adopters $5.99 per character (or $9.99 for the bundle including both).

This promotion will run for the first four weeks after launch, and includes only these two characters. They do not come equipped with full wardrobes, however, so you’ll still need to shell out some extra cash if you plan on hitting the arena in their swimsuits.

For a look at these two characters in action, you can check out the slideshow that we’ve included below.

Leave Marvel Opponents One Character Short with Morrigan, Doctor Doom, and Amaterasu

MorriDoom. Just hearing the word fills Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players with a distinct dread. The last thing that the pair need is new technology, but that’s exactly what they’ve gotten.

As demonstrated in the video below, this combo–which also includes the assistance of Amaterasu–will kill anyone. Thanks to the massive number of Soul Drains in the mix, not only does it take a character out of action, but it also saps loads of meter from Morrigan’s foes, allowing her to burn all the bar necessary to get the job done and leave her completely meter neutral afterwards.

Street Fighter V’s F.A.N.G is a Charge Character

When he was revealed this weekend, Street Fighter V newcomer F.A.N.G turned a lot of heads. From his oddly proportioned body to the unique poison abilities he uses to whittle down foes, the franchise has never seen someone quite like Shadaloo’s new second-in-command.

Unlike other characters, however, F.A.N.G wasn’t playable at PlayStation Experience after his unveiling, leaving the community to pore over small bits of gameplay to determine what he is capable of. Fortunately, bits and pieces are starting to come from official sources to flesh out our early knowledge of this fresh face.

When asked whether F.A.N.G utilizes motion- or charge-based attacks, associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas confirmed it’s the latter.

Of course, it’s possible this may not stick. Some of you may remember Necalli’s specials changing from motion to charge (and some back to motion) over the course of development, and long-time charge character Vega now sports quarter-circle, half-circle, and shoryuken inputs. Those of you interested in F.A.N.G but averse to charging should keep that in mind before losing hope!

Street Fighter V is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4 and PC on February 16.

Relive Capcom Cup with These Amazing Ultra Street Fighter IV Replays

You didn’t have to tune into Capcom Cup last weekend to know the event provided viewers with unparalleled Ultra Street Fighter IV play. But you did tune in, right?

Well, even if you didn’t, the folks at Capcom Fighters have begun the upload cycle for the event that officially ended Street Fighter IV’s run in the Capcom Pro Tour. Each player present had an impressive run, even those who went out 0-2, as simply qualifying for for such an exclusive competition takes more ability than most can muster.

Below, we’ve embedded three matches from the top eight, including Keoma’s last match against Red Bull’s Snake Eyez–one that I personally found the most difficult to watch, not sure how to exist in a world where one of the two had to lose–the in-team battle between r/Kappa’s Poongko and Misse, and, of course, the grand finals match that pitted Kazunoko against Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara.

Capcom also compiled their own top five moments in the following video.

To check out the rest of the top eight, you can follow this link to the playlist. To see more of the tournament broken up into match sets, click here.

King of Fighters XIV’s Entire 50-Character Roster Playable at Launch

Hot on the heels of their last interview, Famitsu have again sat down with King of Fighters XIV battle director Yasuyuki Oda to talk more about the upcoming game.

This new interview goes over many topics, including Oda’s prior experience working at SNK back in the 90s as part of the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting teams. Interestingly enough, he mentions that he’s not the only SNK veteran who’s returned to work on King of Fighters XIV, but didn’t divulge any names.

Oda also responds to questions regarding why they moved to 3D, stating that they felt it was a natural evolution as game hardware got stronger. That said, he did acknowledge that they didn’t really have much past experience with 3D before King of Fighters XIV and have begun to rectify that starting with this project.

Finally, much of the community should be happy to know that the entire 50-character roster advertised in the latest trailers will be playable at launch. Oda says that the full cast has already been decided (hint hint) and that they are trying to include as many popular characters as possible.

There’s much more to their discussion, so be sure to visit MMCafe by following the link below for a full translation.

Combofiend Takes Street Fighter V’s F.A.N.G for a Spin Against Mike Ross

While this past weekend saw Capcom reveal Street Fighter V’s final launch character F.A.N.G at PlayStation Experience, very little gameplay footage was provided for players hoping to see what he brings to the table.

In this new video from IGN, associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas takes Shadaloo’s new second-in-command for a spin against Twitch’s Mike Ross. Aside from giving us a glimpse of what this crazy new character can do, this match is also significant for taking place almost one year after these two provided the first live Street Fighter V match at Capcom Cup 2014.

Will Combofiend’s insider knowledge and familiarity with F.A.N.G give him the win, or will Mike slip past his opponent’s poisonous grasp to finally claim victory? Watch the video below to find out, and be sure to stay until the end as both players break down their matches.

Twitch Hires Ryutaro “A-ru” Noda

As part of their ongoing efforts to expand their reach in fighting game communities overseas, Twitch has brought Ryutaro “A-ru” Noda on board as part of their Japanese partnerships team.

A former tournament competitor who lists a second-place finish at the Capcom vs. SNK National Convention in 2000 among his accomplishments, Noda has since transitioned to the role of commentator. If you made a habit of tuning into Japanese tournaments over the past few years, you’ve likely heard his hype announcing accompany matches of Street Fighter IV.

Noda joins Mike Ross, Victor “Victheslik” Denchartphan, Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang, and more in the growing contingent of fighting game players making their way to Twitch to represent our community. Godspeed!

Canada Cup Gaming Dissolves All Current Sponsorships

Canada Cup Gaming founder Lap Chi Duong announced today that the organization will be ending all current sponsorships by the end of the year. As of now, their roster includes Jonny “Humanbomb” Cheng, Kenny “Air” Lam, Henri “Chi-Rithy” Oung, and David “Detrimantix” Perras, all of whom were quick to thank Duong for his help in attending various international competitions throughout the past few years.

As for why, Duong told Shoryuken that the decision hinges mainly on the uncertainty Street Fighter V brings to the competitive scene. “All of these sponsorships are backed by my personal finances,” he explained. “Street Fighter V is a new game and we don’t really know who’s good yet.”

Of the players he is currently sponsoring, Humanbomb has perhaps had the most notable career these days thanks to his ninth place finish at Capcom Cup, but each competitor has been able to find some degree of success thanks to Canada Cup Gaming’s support.

When asked if he would ever consider getting back into the game, Duong stated that he’s not looking to sponsor anyone else at this time.

Since 2010, Canada Cup Gaming has been synonymous with high-level fighting game competition and they’ve continued to provide the same tournament quality year in and year out. Their latest event, Canada Cup 2015, was selected as a premier tournament on the Capcom Pro Tour this fall.

While numerous organizations seem to enter the fighting game community quickly and leave just as fast, Canada Cup Gaming has been one of our scene’s few constants when it comes to sponsorships. We wish everyone involved the best of luck as they move on to future endeavors.
