Masked Pikachu Brings Wrestling Power to Pokkén Tournament

While Pokémon series mascot Pikachu is already playable in Bandai Namco’s Pokkén Tournament, a brand new fighter is about to enter the ring: Masked Pikachu! Donning the iconic headwear of the luchador, this cast member combines Pikachu’s quick movements with wrestling moves like dropkicks, stunners, and suplexes to bring the pain.

After teasing the Pokémon in a previous trailer, Bandai has seen fit to drop an entire video dedicated to Masked Pikachu’s moveset.

Pokkén Tournament is already available in Japanese arcades, and will see a global Wii U launch in spring 2016.

Shoryuken’s World Rankings Add Capcom Pro Tour Support

Last year, Shoryuken worked closely with developer Bavo Bruylandt to create an extensive world ranking system for Street Fighter and Marvel. Since then, Bruylandt’s has continued to expand its functionality by adding in new games and features, keeping it on the cutting-edge as a valuable resource for the fighting game community.

The latest update, however, combines his system with the Capcom Pro Tour. As that tournament circuit goes by its own rankings, it can be a little annoying to have to switch back and forth between both to see how qualified players stack up on Shoryuken. Not only that, but Bruylandt’s support for Capcom Pro Tour stats also includes things like estimated winnings, score and rank differentials after every tournament, candidates for qualification based off points accrued, and more.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out this new page and play around with it. We are always collecting feedback through our tips line, so don’t hesitate to let us know where we can continue to improve.

Latif: “If Viper didn’t exist, I wouldn’t play Street Fighter IV.”

While visiting Japan for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show tournament, Saudi competitor Abdulatif “Latif” Alhmili stopped by YUBIKEN to get in some practice time. His stay was punctuated by a quick interview, conducted by Super Santarou Man with translations by KichijojiKEN, that touched on a few interesting topics.

Their conversation started out with a pretty surprising revelation. When asked about his character choice in Street Fighter IV, Latif mentioned that C. Viper’s stylish gameplay drew him to her immediately. “If Viper didn’t exist, I wouldn’t play Street Fighter IV,” the Evo 2011 runner-up divulged. Taking his past as a Guilty Gear player into account, Latif’s character choice makes sense, but it’s interesting that such a strong player wouldn’t be where he is today if it weren’t for one character’s inclusion.

The video below also includes Latif’s responses to questions about his training regimen, characters he has a hard time agains, and more, so be sure to give it a watch for the full interview.

Ogawa, Daigo Umehara, and More Clash During Toshin-Gekitotsu’s Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Team Competition

Back in August, Sony held a very special event in Toshin-Gekitotsu. This competition saw two teams of players come together to compete in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. While things didn’t go so well for the Pro Gamer Alliance, led by legend Daigo Umehara of Mad Catz, they still provided quite a show against Ogawa’s squad of Guilty Gear Kings.

If you missed out on the live broadcast, Arc System Works has spent the last few weeks uploading replays, and we now have a full look at how the event played out. Check out the videos below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Enjoy Some Flashy Chipp Combos in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

As we’ve mentioned time and time again, impractical combos are oftentimes some of the most impressive looking, eschewing practicality in favor of creative setups that aren’t really viable in real matches. This new video by ArT focuses on a variety of these combos in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, specifically dealing with the American ninja turned president Chipp Zanuff.

Guilty Gear Xrd on its own already has a very open combo system that allows a great amount of freedom for those willing to explore it. With his high mobility and tricky moves, Chipp in particular can really exploit this flexibility to pull off some flashy combos.

SNK Playmore Announces King of Fighters XIV, Launching on PlayStation 4 in 2016

During Sony’s opening presentation at Tokyo Game Show, a quick teaser was shown for King of Fighters XIV.

Yep, you read that right. Unfortunately, the trailer did little to highlight what the game is all about. As you can see in the video below, the developers appear to have shifted away from sprites in favor of 3D models, much like the spin-off series Maximum Impact, but’s unclear at the moment how the title will play.

King of Fighters XIV will launch on PlayStation 4 sometime in 2016.

Fan Calculates Strength of Superman’s ‘Kryptonian Crush’ in Injustice: Gods Among Us

Superman is powerful. That’s just one of those things that people know. But how powerful is the Man of Steel in the Injustice: Gods Among Us universe? NetherRealm Studios’ creative director Ed Boon tweeted last week that a player took the time to figure out just that. Their conclusion, which they based on the Kryptonian Crush attack, reveals the following:

Superman punches his opponent a whole 126 km into the sky! How powerful is that? Well it depends on the mass of the opponent…comicvine gives Darkseid a weight of 1815 lbs, which I will use. Energy-wise, that means Superman delivered 1.02E10 Joules of energy into that punch. In better terms, that’s 2.43 tons of TNT.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I double checked the math, because that’d be about as effective as me trying to survive one of these punches myself. If you fancy yourself a math whiz and wish to contest the data, you can find the calculations here.

Additionally, some may be quick to note that Darkseid, the character whose weight plays a role in determining the final result, does not appear in the console version of Injustice. The villain does, however, make an appearance in the mobile version of the game, wherein Supes can still deliver the same devastating blow.

Expand Your Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Wardrobe with These Falcom Crossover Costumes

If you’re looking to expand your Dead or Alive 5 Last Round wardrobe, you’ll be pleased to learn that the game’s cast is soon to receive a slew of new outfits. These duds draw inspiration from a number of intellectual properties created by the Nihon Falcom Corporation, including The Legend of Heroes, Ys Origin, and more.

These costumes are set to become available tomorrow, September 15, though the Xbox One can currently be purchased for $2.99 each or as a complete $33.99 set.

Our source, which lists prices in Japanese yen, suggests that these may be slightly higher price tags than the costumes will see on PlayStation 4, but USD pricing outside of the Xbox One version is not available as of this writing. Of course, if you’ve already purchased Season Pass 2 (PS4) or the New Costume Pass 2 (Xbox One), you’ll be receiving these outfits as part of those packages.

We’ve included the official trailer for these costumes, as well as an image gallery, below.
