There’s no question that the United Arab Emirates’s GAMES15 convention last weekend brought plenty of excitement to Street Fighter players around the world. On top of news of the inclusion of Rashid to the forthcoming Street Fighter V, the convention also housed a handful tournaments, including one for Ultra Street Fighter IV.
The grand finals came down to a set between Infiltration and local powerhouse Big Bird of Falcon Arena. It’s by no means a short set thanks to a bracket reset, and features a good deal of variety when it comes to character selection. So if you’re looking to check out some high-level Street Fighter IV action, grab a cup of coffee and get ready for the long haul.

If you’re in the market for a new Mortal Kombat X main, STB.BBS|Shujinkydink’s new Summoner Quan Chi guide offers arguments for why the pale sorcerer should be your next stop on the character select screen.
In this two part series, the Quan Chi master demonstrates how to make the most of the variant’s bat in every aspect of the match. These tips include approach options, zoning options, and how to perform combos that would normally cost meter by correctly timing the trait usage and saving the meter for something else, the importance of which can’t be stressed enough on a character so lacking in the defense department.
In addition to the standard tutorial fare, Shujinkydink dedicates a good deal of footage to setting up resets off of trance, including vortex options that can keep opponents locked down until death.
Way back in January, the folks at Bigboystoys announced the release of their first Street Fighter figure, which appropriately featured Ryu tossing a Hadouken in front of a Street Fighter II-themed backdrop. At the time of its reveal, the company noted that they were also working on a Ken figure to act as a companion piece. Those who picked up the first figure will be pleased to know that this complementary figure will be ready to ship in just a few short months.
Much like his plasma-chucking counterpart, Ken comes equipped with LEDs and built-in sound effects to bring his fiery dragon punch to life. As you can see in the images below, Ken’s stage–his home court in Street Fighter II–can be connected to Ryu’s for a chibi-style showdown.
In addition to Capcom’s consultation of Middle Eastern distributor Pluto Games while developing Street Fighter V’s Rashid, fans of this underrepresented region apparently had another heavy-hitter in their corner: Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada.
Capcom executive Yoshinori Ono mentioned this detail (through a translator) when asked about Rashid’s creation during a recent interview with VGStations at GAMES15. Due to his close friendship with Harada, Ono consulted him on the possibility of including a Middle Eastern character in Street Fighter V, to which the Tekken producer responded that it would probably be a good idea.
At the time, Bandai was also working closely with folks in the region to create Tekken 7’s Shaheen, who hails from Saudi Arabia.
Another interesting tidbit arose when Ono was asked about Rashid’s gameplay. Apparently, the newcomer was designed in such way so that he would be included with characters like Ryu and Ken as a good choice for beginners. “We’re hoping [Rashid’s] very appealing to the gamers over here,” Ono’s relayed, again through a translator. “When they pick it up for the first time, because they haven’t really played the game before, and they take a look and see these characters, that they can just go straight towards him and he’ll be someone they can get into without a problem.”

If there’s any character that can be said to be the face of competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee, it has to be Fox. The Star Fox lead has become nearly synonymous with the game due to his domination in competitive play.
With that said, it’s understandable that anyone wanting to get into competitive Melee is bound to give Fox a try. MikeHazeGaming recently shared a tutorial that goes over one of the things aspiring Fox players will need to learn: how to control his side special, Fox Illusion.
Fox Illusion is a lightning quick sideways dash whose length and hitbox can be controlled depending on when the startup is canceled. The key to this is to listen for a whoosh sound, which plays during the 20th frame of the startup pose, and players must learn to press B at specific frames after this to be able to properly control the move.
All the Marvel heads out there looking for a one stop shop to catch up on the latest goings-on within the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 scene have a lot to look forward to thanks to the Marvelous Mondays podcast, which kicked off last week. The podcast features the Marvelous Essentials team, comprised of Kinderparty, Ash, BROKENTIER’s Persia, and SBK and Potato Salad of Kumite in Tennessee.
Since this is the first official video, you’ll learn a little bit about each member of the team before getting into the episode proper. Clocking in at just shy of 90 minutes, this opening broadcast packs in a huge amount of discussion related to the current state of the game and the sorts of things that we can expect to see out of high-level Marvel play in the coming year. The team is joined by special guest Apologyman for a good chunk of the discussion, so you’ll not want to miss out.

If there’s any question on the minds of many Guilty Gear players, it’s when the game’s latest version, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, will be hitting home consoles.
According to Inside Games, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 sometime in the first half of 2016. Arc System Works’ continued support for the older platform should be great news for players who have yet to upgrade.
While this date only concerns a Japanese release, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- arrived in North America less than two weeks after its initial release, so there’s hope this carries over to the upcoming title.
In addition to updated gameplay mechanics, -REVELATOR- introduces veterans Johnny and Jam Kuradoberi and newcomer Jack-O to the playable cast. A fourth character is expected, based off a fan vote that begins in arcades later this month.
Fighting games are popular all over the world, and France will be seeing some action this weekend with the Double KO Summer Event 2015. Taking place this Saturday and Sunday in the city of Rouen, will feature a number of fighting games including Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, The King of Fighters XIII, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, in addition to several titles from other genres. A number of France’s best players will be attending including MD|Luffy, RB|Valmaster, FA|Ryan Hart, Problem X, Gagapa, Cuongster, Will2pac and RMZ, along with KOF expert Misterio of Chile.
