Rashid’s V-Skill Grants Him Additional Movement, Attack Options in Street Fighter V

UPDATE (1:22 AM PDT) – Shortly after dropping the assets in our original article, Capcom’s Neidel “Haunts” Crisan provided concrete details concerning Rashid’s background, V-Skill, and V-Trigger.

This quick fighter incorporates his parkour skills into his V-Skill, giving him access to a front flip or roll depending on the player’s input. Both of these attacks come partnered with a unique follow-up, the former a deadly divekick and the latter an upward kick from the ground.

Also, Capcom confirmed that Rashid’s V-Trigger, the whirling Ysaar twister, both damages the opponent and increases his movement on any forward-moving attacks, as some have speculated.

All in all, Rashid is looking to be a very speedy, movement-heavy character that’s capable of tricking opponents and setting scary mixup opportunities in motion. For a closer look at how he plays, be sure to check out our previous report with footage straight from the show floor.

Our original article follows below.

With his reveal still fresh in our minds, Capcom has dropped a handful of Street Fighter V screenshots that depict a majority of Rashid’s moveset.

While many of the images are your standard fare–intro, specials, Critical Art, etc.–one in particular caught our eye. Labeled “wind stance,” this screenshot may be our first hint as to what Rashid’s V-Skill does. Of course, one picture isn’t going to explain a whole lot, so we’re going to have to wait for Capcom’s official breakdown to learn exactly what this stance does to Rashid’s playstyle.

In any case, feel free to peruse the images below and let us know your thoughts.

Beefy Smash Doods Share Some Fun Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Facts

Running into oddities from time to time is just a part of gaming. No matter how such an oddity decides to present itself, we’ve all (hopefully) learned to take them in stride, even if that wonky hitbox cost us an important match. Beefy Smash Doods recently compiled a collection of strange occurrences and other interesting tidbits in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that may sometimes play a minor part in determining the victor of a match, but usually go unnoticed.

Some of these things come up more often than others, like how a character’s health percentage ties in to the length of their invulnerability frames when grabbing a ledge, whereas something like Little Mac showing some wear and tear as the fight progresses won’t be causing any losses any time soon.

Juri Gets Impractical in This Amazing Ultra Street Fighter IV Combo Video

Sometimes, the best combo videos are those that focus on impractical situations resulting in combos that are so reliant on very specific sets of actions and circumstances from both characters that you’ll never see them used in an actual competitive match.

This latest Ultra Street Fighter IV video from ArmchairTitan is definitely one of those times. Here, he focuses on Juri, creating unique setups that allow her to land some amazing combos that you’d normally never see during a tournament. Add in some creative editing and you have one impressive and, at times, hilarious video.

If this left you itching for more, you’ll find ArmchairTitan’s earlier videos here.

Street Fighter V’s Rashid Shines in Latest Gameplay Footage

Similar to other character reveals, Capcom immediately made Street Fighter V’s Rashid playable on the GAMES15 show floor after their official presentation. In addition to giving players the opportunity to play him for the first time, this also provides those of us not in Dubai right now a glimpse of what this newcomer brings to the table.

In the video below, GO Arabia captured around six minutes of Rashid gameplay footage. While not heavy on strategy due to the proximity of his release, it does open up some discussion regarding the safety of his various specials, how he’s able to face down characters like M. Bison and Ken, and just what the hell his V-Skill is.

Be sure to give the footage a look and let us know what you think of Rashid so far. The gameplay in question begins around the 1:40 mark.

Poongko: “[HooDaMan] might be the one true Honda player.”

During his visit to South Korea, Pandora House’s Hooman “HooDaMan” Ghahremani stopped by Arcade Stream’s monthly tournament in preparation for his appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2015 later this month. This, of course, gave the folks there the opportunity to add him to their excellent series of video interviews.

After first traveling to South Korea in 2009, HooDaMan says he fell in love with the country. He previously tried his hand at qualifying for the now-defunct World eSports Championship Games finals, and despite playing E. Honda was able to place third behind Infiltration and QANBA’s Dakou.

“I think, in Ultra Street Fighter IV, Honda is extremely bottom tier. He’s like the worst or second-worst character in the game, so to play him competitively is asking a little bit too much,” HooDaMan says of his character choice. “I definitely needed a secondary. I wanted to pick up a new character from the five that were released in Ultra, and I just picked up Decapre because she has Hundred Hand Slaps kind of like Honda.”

Even though he’s stuck it out with a weaker character, HooDaMan has gained respect from the local community thanks mostly to his raw talent. “HooDaMan is a very cautious player; of course, that plays to Honda’s strengths,” Poongko explains. “[He] has leveled up so much [that] I wonder if he’s the same guy from when I first played him. He might be the one true Honda player.”

For more of Arcade Stream’s conversation with HooDaMan, as well as some exciting tournament footage, be sure to check out the video below.

Arc System Works Announces Another Round of BlazBlue: Central Fiction Location Testing

With two separate location tests under their belts, Arc System Works is ready to give the upcoming BlazBlue: Central Fiction yet another public workout later this month. These demos are scheduled for September 19-20, and will again be held at a variety of game centers in Japan. This time around, the title’s online player guild will be live, though with limited functionality.

Central Fiction expands the BlazBlue experience by introducing two new playable characters, Naoto Kurogane and Hibiki Kohaku (both pictured above), as well as a host of updated gameplay mechanics like the super powerful Exceed Accel attacks and Active Flow, which rewards offensive play with enhanced damage and Burst recovery.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is scheduled to launch in arcades this winter. In the meantime, feel free to check out SKD’s impressionsmore details on its additions, and gameplay footage from the very first location tests.

Capcom Worked Closely with Middle Eastern Distributor to Develop Street Fighter V’s Rashid

Apart from the EX series’ Saudi representative Pullum Purna, the overall Street Fighter franchise has had a dearth of Middle Eastern characters since it hit the scene decades ago. Fortunately, the next installment will work to correct that by featuring Rashid, a newcomer who was revealed earlier this morning during a presentation at GAMES15 in the United Arab Emirates.

While it would be easy to slap a character together based on regional assumptions, Capcom took a smarter route akin to Bandai Namco’s inclusion of Shaheen in Tekken 7 and got involved with those intimately familiar with the culture.

According to IGN Middle East, Rashid’s creation was a collaborative effort between the developers in Japan, their counterparts at Sony, and Pluto Games, who works as Capcom’s distributor throughout the area. Combine this with their commitment to provide the region with a complete Arabic localization, and it’s pretty clear Capcom is doing all they can to give back to the local communities who have supported them.

“It’s always been great for me to see all the events and fighting game community stuff that goes on in the Middle East and of course I’ve had lots of you invite me to come play with you over the years,” Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono said in his message to IGN readers. “With Street Fighter V, we’ve added this brand new character [Rashid] who [hails] from the Middle East. I really hope you enjoy playing as him and try and make him the best Street Fighter character out there.”

With the huge rise in Middle Eastern fighting game tournaments, it’s hard to deny Capcom made a smart decision when creating Rashid for Street Fighter V. Diversity is rarely a bad thing, and it’s great to see inclusivity spread to such a fantastic group of fans.

Street Fighter V is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in March 2016. Our previous Rashid coverage can be found here.
