Mortal Kombat X’s Towers Provide First Footage of Predator in Action

With a July release date on the horizon, Mortal Kombat X players have been eagerly awaiting Predator’s arrival, and their excitement only increased with the addition of preliminary data hinting at its playstyles.

Up until today, we’ve yet to see the character in action, but it appears as if this iconic movie monster has infiltrated the game’s Tower mode, allowing players to face off against the Predator for the very first time. While not as good as actually being able to try out the character first-hand, this does provide us with a good look at the basic moves it brings to the table.

Going by the videos below, we can glean bits and pieces of the unique tools each variation possesses. Where the Hunter style seems to focus more on up close and personal offense with the claw accessory, Hish-Qu-Ten players will need to focus more on the zoning capabilities afforded by the shoulder-mounted gun. Give these previews a view for yourself and let us know what you think of Predator so far.

Much like previous character releases, previews of Predator’s brutalities and fatalities can also be found within the game, screenshots of which have been compiled over on Reddit, so be sure to head on over for a closer look at the finishers the alien hunter will have at its disposal.

Apply Drill Cancels to Your Faust Game in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

One of the key things that any Faust player has to learn in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is how to Faultless Defense cancel his aerial drill. This technique allows the good doctor to do quite a few things: it cancels his vertical and horizontal momentum in the air, abd at the same time he can also use aerial normals afterwards to either control space or set up an instant overhead.

In this new tutorial, Zissou teaches players not only how to perform this technique, but also various applications for it. This includes the possible combos Faust can get from an instant overhead jump kick based on factors such as whether or not the opponent is standing or crouching, ambiguous crossups, and more.

Check out the video below and see if you can learn a thing or two from it.

Bandai Namco Teases Major Tekken 7 Announcement for July 7

Tekken_7_July_7_Announcement_teaser_622x320

Ever since the release of the last time-release character, Kazumi Mishima, we haven’t really heard much in the way of Tekken 7 news. Now, it seems this will soon change, as Bandai Namco Games appears to be gearing up for a major announcement regarding the game.

In a recent tweet via the official Tekken Project twitter account, the company is hinting that a major Tekken 7 announcement will be made on Tuesday, July 7.

The accompanying image contains the words “Awaken, raging fist.” Whether this hints at more playable characters or if this somehow related to the game’s impending home release is as of yet unknown.

Daigo Umehara, Momochi Handed Early Ultra Street Fighter IV Eliminations at Community Effort Orlando 2015

When it comes to tournaments, very few can compare with Evolution in terms of scale and overall skill level, but the folks at Community Effort Orlando have grown so tremendously over the past few years that it’s hard to argue their event isn’t a close second. And with the additional impetus of an automatic Capcom Cup qualification looming over the Ultra Street Fighter IV bracket, the amount of talent on display in Florida this weekend was nearly unprecedented.

That’s why, when word both Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara and Momochi of Team Evil Geniuses had been eliminated soon after the top 32 began, it wasn’t a huge shocker after the initial, “Whaaat?!” moment. Though arguably two of the strongest Street Fighter players in the world, the aforementioned level of competition meant anything could happen in the losers bracket, and these two powerhouses came up against stiff resistance in China’s Xiaohai (representing Qanba and Douyu) and CORN|alucarD, an American player who has risen to prominence recently with his outstanding Hugo play.

While tournaments of this magnitude no doubt benefit from their huge international presence, there’s also a downside, especially if you weren’t able to be there in person: some of the best sets won’t make it to a streaming station. As the news about these matches popped up on Twitter, some could only imagine what went down with no footage readily available.

Fortunately, we don’t have to rely on our imaginations any longer.

Pacific Northwest group Khaos Gaming recently uploaded direct feed footage of these incredible matchups, allowing those of us stuck at home to experience just how Xiaohai and alucarD–who, don’t get me wrong, are two amazing players in their own right–were able to fell Daigo and Momochi. We’ve included both of their videos below, so if you weren’t able to visit Florida this year, check them out!

Capcom to Hold Street Fighter V Panel at San Diego Comic-Con Next Month

Street_Fighter_V_SDCC_622_crop

Did E3 leave you hungry for more details about Street Fighter V? Want to know more about Capcom’s next fighter? Well, it looks like you wont have to wait any longer.

Capcom will be bringing Street Fighter V to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where they will dedicate an entire panel to the upcoming title. In addition to a group of Street Fighter “experts,” producer Yoshinori Ono himself will also be in attendance. The panel’s official description hints at “exclusives, surprises, and hijinks,” so it’s possible we’ll receive some new information.

Other topics on the docket include the Capcom Pro Tour and licensed products planned to be released throughout the coming year.

This will all take place on Thursday, July 9, starting at 11:45 AM. All the details you’ll need to attend can be found by following the link below.

Capcom Further Explains How to Enter the Street Fighter V Beta

sfv-mbisoncharlie-622-crop

For a while, we’ve known a few things about the Street Fighter V beta. One, you’ll have to pre-order the game to gain access; two, it will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 for the time being; and three, it will be a limited-time affair. Other than that, very little had been shared with the community about how things would work out, but today Capcom pulled the curtain back just a tiny bit to share the retailers fans in the United States and Canada can utilize.

In a recent Capcom-Unity blog post, Peter “Combofiend” Rosas revealed that GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, and (of course) PlayStation Network will all provide beta codes for pre-orders. Players should receive their beta codes by July 20, just in time for the testing period’s beginning on July 23.

Unfortunately, things are still rather unstable for folks outside of the western hemisphere. Those living pretty much anywhere else in the world can apply for a chance at joining the beta instead of the guaranteed access enjoyed by fans in North and South America. PC users can look forward to their own beta session starting sometime this fall.

More details can be found on Capcom-Unity. Street Fighter V will launch in spring 2016.

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION Gameplay Footage, Details Surface from Location Tests

This weekend, Sega is holding a series of location tests for Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION, the follow-up to their light novel fighter developed by French-Bread and Ecole Software. As such, we’ve finally been given our first look at the characters and mechanics making their debut in this sequel.

In addition to The Devil is a Part-Timer! receiving another representative in Emi Yusa, Heavy Object is set to make the scene with the arrival of playable character Qwenthur Barbotage (accompanied by Heivia Winchell and Milinda Brantini) and assist Major Frolaytia Capistrano. Each of these fighters can be seen in the footage below.

Japanese publication Gamer has also released an extensive look at IGNITION, the aforementioned newcomers, and some fresh gameplay mechanics. Check out our translations below.

Emi Yusa

Emi Yusa (Voice: Yoko Hikasa) joins the cast from The Devil Is a Part-Timer! as the Hero who chased the Demon King from the parallel world Ente Isla to Japan… and gets a job as call center agent to cover her living expenses. To find out why, check the original light novel and the TV anime.

Wielding the sword Better Half, Emi is a standard type character with strong reach and priority in her moves, flashy light- and lightning-based attacks and an air dash like Shana and Kirino. Equipped with a number of easy-to-use moves like a projectile attack, rush attack, mid-air combo finisher, surprise attack, she’s truly a heroic character.

dfci-loketest-01

With her Trump Card, Emi takes a Holy Vitamin β, providing a temporary power-up. While active her hair color changes. In her Climax Art see awakens as the hero Emilia and strikes her with a single powerful blow. Current players should be able to grasp Emi’s abilities with a single play, but she’s also a recommendable character for those starting from IGNITION.

Command List Selection

Move Name Command Notes
Special Move 1 236 + Attack button Projectile
Special Move 2 214 + Attack button Rush attack
Special Move 3 Air 236 + Attack button Similar to Mikoto’s Air Charge C
Special Move 4 Air 214 + Attack button Surprise attack similar to Selvaria’s
Air Dash In air 66 Similar to Shana’s

Qwenthur Barbotage

Qwenthur Barbotage (Voice: Natsuki Hanae) from Heavy Object is a member of the 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion. Qwenthur is a technical character who fights with the assistance of comrades Heivia on firearms support and Milinda piloting the Object Baby Magnum.

Qwenthur himself is lacking in reach, but with grenade tosses, covering fire from Heivia and the inclusion of Supports, he excels at restricting the opponent’s movements similar to Mikoto. Particularly, Heivia’s fire support heavily limits the opponents attack, so you should think about when to use it.

dfci-loketest-07

His Trump Card triggers a broad range of explosions centering on himself and shines in a variety of situations, from reversals to ground-to-air. His Impact Skill are unique, especially 2+A+B, where Qwenthur plants a mine in front of him, Heivia fires a rocket diagonally upward and Qwenthur retreats about 1.5-2 character lengths. This allows him to cover both the ground and air and attack while retreating. With proper timing, he can recreate space without being punished.

When connecting with an EX special move, pressing A+B will expend one bar of the Climax Gauge as Milinda releases a follow-up attack. This is useful as a simple damage booster. EX special move → additional attack → Climax Art is also a reliable option. Of course if you’re sloppy with meter management you’ll find yourself in a spot, so it’s a question of what finisher you want to use.

Command List Selection

Move Name Command Notes
Special Move 1 236 + Attack button Heivia appears in front and fires a machine gun in the air
Special Move 2 214 + Attack button Throws a grenade forward, trajectory changes with button
Special Move 3 Air 236 + Attack button Similar to Rentaro’s air Gunfire
Additional Attack (After hitting anEX special move) A+B Costs one bar of the Climax Gauge

Support – Frolaytia Capistrano

In addition, joining as a Support character from Heavy Object is Frolaytia Capistrano, commander of the 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion to which Qwenthur and the others belongs. As a Support her moves have an abundant attack range. With S she attacks the area in front, and with 4 or 6 + S she release a large number of missiles from behind the character. Her attacks take a bit of time to reach start-up, so you can say she’s a type you should Support cancel one step before the move you want to link.

Three New Systems to Superheat the Meta Game

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION introduces three new systems. The first is Blast Characters. This is an additional character chosen at character select, separate from the actual Support you use.

When selected, each Support character has a Blast type listed, Powerup, Combo or Escape, and the selected Blast “expands range the shockwave”. In this way, you can increase the span of a Powerup Blast and reduce risk , or connect a Combo Blast from a distance that was once too far.

The difference is in the three Blast types there are no individual differences from the character side. There might be differences from the player side.

dfci-loketest-14
dfci-loketest-15

The second, Ignition is a system in which you select one person from your Player Character, Support Character and Blast Character at the end of the round, unrelated to results of the round.

Selecting Player Character increases attack power and raises the Trump Card limit by one (doesn’t increase the number of icons), selecting Support Character increases the recovery rate of the Support Gauge, and selecting Blast Character recovers 50% of the Blast Gauge.

In addition, after the second round, selecting the same character in Ignition activates Double Ignition, a system that strengthens your Climax Art based on the three character types. This an equivalent function of a standard Climax Art + Trump Card. When activating a Climax Art, Inputting the following additional inputs will increase the damage.

Character Command Notes
Player Character A+C Expends one Trump Card icon
Support Character S Expends one Climax Gauge bar and the Support Gauge
Blast Character A+B+C Expends the Blast Gauge

Beyond the above, Player Double Ignition allows you to jump cancel normal attacks in normal mode and Support Double Ignition allows you to activate Support during a jump in normal mode, giving you pseudo-Trump Card benefits, significantly changing tactics when a match is carried to a third round or beyond.

dfci-loketest-16

Blast Characters, Ignition and Double Ignition are a certain to cause waves in the play environment, not just in the difference in how each player applies tactics, but the focus placed on round-to-round meter management.

The additional merits from Player and Support Double Ignition have a clear attractive points. But when accidentally wasting an Escape Blast, or when you have the confidence to prevent the match being taken to a third round, Blast are now a more direct resource as they can be taken into calculation as simple damage.

Blast Double Ignitions, on the other hand of spending your Blast Gauge to strengthen Climax Arts, free up your Trump Card and Climax Gauge, giving birth to an option for more offensive use of resources. Though the lack of a permanent buff like the other Double Ignitions might make you want to shy away from selecting it, Blast is more of a direct strengthening, making it a good option depending on your play style.

And of course, there’s the option to not use Double Ignition at all and use meter based on the situation.

dfci-loketest-17

A Brief Look at Other Changes!

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION also tunes the character balance, shifting around the properties of each character.

Following the positive reception of the home version’s Dream Duel, the story mode has been greatly improved. In IGNITION you now select your opponents, with new conversations added on to the Dream Duel dialogue base.

Ongoing public demonstrations are sure to result in even more information for this upcoming title, so stay tuned for details on additional gameplay changes.

Celebrate Independence Day at HADOCON VII, Online Registration Ends Soon

hadoconvii

Every year, the Northern California fighting game community gathers in the Bay Area to put on and participate in HADOCON, but this time around it’s coming a little earlier than usual.

HADOCON VII is scheduled for July 4, meaning everyone who wants to get away from the usual barbecues and fireworks that are typically used to celebrate Independence Day can gather in San Francisco and compete instead. This year’s event features a greatly expanded lineup, and will include tournaments for Ultra Street Fighter IV (singles and teams), Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (singles and teams), Mortal Kombat X, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Though no longer organized by our very own Terry “Kineda” Ng, he has handed the reins to two very experienced individuals. Hargi Yamsuan and Justin “Falcomist” Sia have both helped Ng put on events for years, and HADOCON is sure to continue its streak of excellence under their guidance.

Online registration is currently open but is expected to close as early as this weekend, after which the pricier on-site registration will be your only option. Be sure to head on over to the official Facebook event for more details.
