Learn New Ways to Snatch Up Super Jumping Opponents with Vergil in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

If you’re a Vergil player looking for something to give you an extra edge in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, here’s something you’ll want to check out. CORN’s MachoMexican has shared a new video that demonstrates a way to catch super jumping opponents and convert it into a full combo.

This new setup is a variation of what most Vergil players already use. Traditionally, most Vergil players will utilize H teleport into Helm Breaker, but this method doesn’t always lead to a combo depending on multiple factors. Instead, Machomexican’s setup uses a combination of Vergil’s Round Trip glitch and Spiral Swords, as demonstrated in the video below.

Gaming Live Announces KAKUTOP League II, Coming This Weekend

Following up their successful debut earlier this year, the folks at Gaming Live are set to present the sophomore installment of the KAKUTOP League this weekend.

Similar to TOPANGA’s own league competition does for Japan and other surrounding countries, KAKUTOP gathers some of the strongest European players together to see who comes out on top in Ultra Street Fighter IV. Their inaugural outing saw some fantastic competition from regional powerhouses like MD|Luffy, GL|Valmaster, Gagapa, and Ryan Hart, who will be joined by four fresh challengers in Easyman, Problem X, Profluke, and Gamein.

The entire event will be broadcast in both French and English by Gaming Live themselves, so be sure to tune in June 6-7 to see what this mix of veteran KAKUTOP competitors and newcomers have in store.

Skullgirls Encore Free to Play, All Content 80% Off on Steam Until June 8

skullgirls-valentinebeowulf-622-crop

Indie darling Skullgirls has always been the sort of game that interests a lot of people but doesn’t get a whole lot of actual playing time. Sure, there’s a hardcore fanbase of competitors who provide great showings at major tournaments across the country, but it’s somehow failed to take off like its contemporaries despite unique appeal both through gameplay and aesthetics.

Fortunately, we might see that change thanks to the latest round of Steam deals.

Far from a mere free weekend, the developers have seen fit to make Skullgirls Encore free to play through the current week, allowing newcomers and other interested parties to jump into the game without purchase and try it out for themselves.

Accompanying this free period are a slew of deals on the game’s content; players who like what they find during this promotion can grab Skullgirls Encore for the insane price of $2.99, a markdown of 80% from its normal price. The offer has also been extended to the two- and four-packs, should folks want to go in together, as well as all of the title’s currently available downloadable content. This means each additional character will only run you a buck apiece with the exception of Beowulf, who is still free.

There’s never been a better time to give Skullgirls a shot and see what it offers. These sales will be available through June 8, so don’t miss out!

Kazumi Mishima Brings a Tiger to a Fistfight in Tekken 7’s Practice Mode

Tekken 7’s boss character Kazumi Mishima has finally become playable, and GuntamaMiraclein is once again one of the first to share footage of her in players’ hands.

In this extended training mode footage, they go through a few of Kazumi’s moves and strings. Additionally, they demonstrate some basic combos, including more than a few that utilize her pet tiger, either by using it as a combo starter via an uppercut or as a way to extend and end combos using its range.

Check the video out below and share your thoughts on the Mishima matriarch in the comments.

Newcomer Jack O Joins the Cast of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

ggxrd-revelator-jack-oThe latest cast addition to Arc System Works’ upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- has been revealed, thanks to a leak of this week’s Weekly Famitsu. The silhouette that Arc System Works previously teased belongs to the mysterious woman Jack O, an all-new addition to the Guilty Gear Xrd update alongside returning favorite Johnny. She is the third of That Man’s close servants alongside I-No and Raven. While very little is known of the character’s profile or play style, she apparently uses comical attacks.

A few details on the battle system for REVELATOR have been revealed as well. Fundamentally, REVELATOR preserves the same balance as the previous version, though the expansions to the game’s basic systems will increase the depth of strategy. After a successful Blitz Shield, it’s now possible to utilize a “power blow”. Whether this indicates a mortal counter or some sort of specific attack is currently unclear.

Be on the look out for more details on Jack O and -REVELATOR- when the next issue of Famitsu officially drops later this week, and tell us what you think about the new character in the comments below.

Mortal Kombat X Hotfix Tweaks Frame Data, Damage Scaling and Plenty More

Mortal Kombat X Erron Black SMALL
Mortal Kombat X has certainly seen its share of bug fixes and character tweaks since it hit shelves back in April, but the most recent hotfix is positively loaded with small adjustments. For starters, Swarm Queen D’Vorah players will be sad to see that her combo damage scaling following Wasp Grenade has been increased, though the notes don’t indicate the degree of this increase. Erron Black saw his Tackle change from +20 on hit to -2 on hit, and he also received a 5 frame recovery increase on his Sand Toss and Sand Throw specials when in the Outlaw variant.

The changes aren’t all nerfs, though; in fact, a good deal of the small frame data tweaks work to slightly improve several characters who haven’t yet had much time in the limelight. These frame data shifts include faster normals for Mileena and Kitana, safer options for Takeda and plenty more.

The hotfix is currently live on Xbox One and will be available on the PlayStation 4 “soon.” Sadly, there is no word on when these changes will be making their way to the Steam version of the game.

Daigo, Justin Wong, Xian, and Ryan Hart Invited to Ultra Street Fighter IV x Gunslinger Stratos 2 Collaboration Tournament

Capcom and Square Enix are taking their collaboration efforts between their respective titles a little bit further. If adding Street Fighter costumes to the high-flying 4-on-4 team action of Gunslinger Stratos wasn’t enough (see the video below), perhaps a joint tournament will do the trick.

ouka-ranbu-cup

The Ouka Ranbu Cup (“Wild Dance of the Cherry Blossoms”), will not only feature both Ultra Street Fighter IV and Gunslinger Stratos 2, but also some special invitees. Capcom will be bringing in Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara, Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong, Razer’s Xian, and Falcon Arena’s Ryan Hart as representatives of Japan, America, Singapore, and the United Kingdom respectively, to compete in this crossover event.

The tournament is taking on a bit of a unique format. A series of qualifiers around Japan will bring the number of participants to eight Street Fighter players (including the four invitees) and eight Gunslinger Stratos teams. At the finals tournament on July 5, each USFIV player will be paired with a GS2 team by lottery. The players will then compete in a round-robin for their respective games, and the tag team with the most total wins will claim victory.

You might not get to see Justin Wong try his hand at Gunslinger Stratos, but Street Fighter players and Gunglinger Stratos teams alike will have to depend on each other for a shot at the championship. Capcom and Square Enix have prepared special titles for the participants as well as the winning tag team.

Gunslinger Stratos 2 Title: "I Go to Meet Those Stronger Than Me" (Street Fighter IV's Japanese tagline)

Gunslinger Stratos 2 – Participant Prize Title: “I Go to Meet Those Stronger Than Me” (Street Fighter IV’s Japanese tagline)

Gunslinger Stratos 2 Title: "Ouka Ranbu Cup Champion"

Gunslinger Stratos 2 – Champion Team Prize Title: “Ouka Ranbu” (Wild Dance of the Cherry Blossoms”)

DJT Rides Johnny Cage Shenanigans to Victory During Midwest Championships 2015’s Mortal Kombat X Finals

Last weekend, Midwest Championships 2015 went down in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and, like many tournaments, included competition in Mortal Kombat X. The top eight was filled with a ton of talent, seven of which comprise Team YOMI, a strong group of competitors playing mostly out of Atlanta.

During the early portions of the losers bracket, teammates DJT and Michaelangelo were paired up, the latter quickly going up one game thanks to his solid Quan Chi play. DJT, not wanting to be outdone, made the switch from Sub-Zero to Johnny Cage, and that’s where the shenanigans began.

See, Cage’s fisticuffs variation comes equipped with Speedbag (b12), a string that can be stopped early or repeated ad nauseum. While relatively safe, there are gaps between hits, meaning characters with armored moves or quick normals should be able to escape the pressure it applies. Unfortunately, Quan Chi isn’t among that list.

As you’ll see in the replay below, DJT uses this string as both a means of harassing Michaelangelo in the corner and creating mixup opportunities that can lead into longer, actual combos.

If you read the Shoryuken front page on a regular basis, you probably noticed DJT do the same thing during an exhibition at Combo Breaker. But please, don’t mistake his use of this gimmicky tactic as lack of skill. A former Evo champion, DJT would eventually make his way to Midwest Championships’ grand finals and completely dominate teammate Slayer–with Tempest Kung Lao, mind you–by a score of 6-0.

Should this be corrected in future updates? Who knows, but you gotta respect someone doing whatever it takes to win, even something that’s sure to lose admirers. Godspeed DJT.
