In the video below, Mark and Alex showcase some combos for the series Jaguar-headed grappler, demonstrating the sheer power his fighting style exudes in matches. Additionally, most of them also provide him with great positioning, allowing King to carry his opponents to the wall in a fair amount of stages.

Can Anyone Stop Sonic Fox in Mortal Kombat X? Dizzy Tries His Hand at Combo Breaker 2015

Combo Breaker’s Mortal Kombat X tournament was by far the game’s biggest tournament to date, attracting slightly more players than tournament staple Ultra Street Fighter IV.

At the end of the day, however, large numbers couldn’t stop some of the country’s best Mortal Kombat from making it through into the top eight bracket. As the tournament wound down, players like GGA|Dizzy, CORN|alucarD, YOMI|Foreverking, MI|REO, YOMI|Michaelangelo, and more would find themselves eyeing the top prize–if they could best powerhouse cR|Sonic Fox, that is.

For those who missed it or simply want to watch the action all over again, Team Spooky recently uploaded replays from finals day. You can check some of the last matches of the event below, but be sure to head on over to their channel to see the rest.

Desk Absolutely Destroys Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Yang in Latest Combo Video

Desk has consistently proven to be one of the greatest combo creators of this generation. That’s why when he returns with a video after four months of absence, folks sit up and pay attention.

His latest Ultra Street Fighter IV offering focuses on demolishing Yang in as many ways as possible, but this wasn’t born out of some hatred for the rollerblader or allegiance to his twin. No, this was an aesthetic choice, as Yang’s super activation allows for some pretty cool visuals even if he isn’t the one on offense.

Much like Desk’s previous projects, this video is filled to the brim with technical excellence and more than a few glitches to keep things light. If you haven’t had the chance to check this out yet, give it a watch below and let us know what you think.

Take a First Look at Tanya’s Gameplay in Her Official Mortal Kombat X Trailer

We’ve been seeing glimpses of what to expect out of Tanya in Mortal Kombat X since before the game released. We got to see her take part in the game’s story, and modders even went to far as to make her (as well as a slew of other characters) into incomplete-yet-playable characters just a week into the life of the game. But none of this could have prepared to community for the unbridled insanity that she will soon be bringing to the fight.

Today, the folks at NetherRealm Studios released a first look at the upcoming fighter’s gameplay, and it is nothing short of ridiculous. While it’s hard to tell at the moment which moves are variant-specific, we can certainly see that she comes at opponents from all sides at all times.

Of course, it isn’t really a Mortal Kombat X trailer without some fatality action, so be sure to stick around until the end of the video for that, too.

Kombat Pack owners will be able to try Tanya on June 2. She will be made available for individual purchase a week later.

Killer Instinct’s Shadow Training Could Change the Way We Fight Computer Opponents

The artificial intelligence used in fighting games has been questionable since the genre first debuted. Hitting up arcade mode, story mode, or similar computer-battle modes has always been a decent-enough way for those tired of training mode CPU dummies to go out into the “world” and try to work on hit-confirming or a number of other tactics, but as we all know by now, doing this is never as good as playing against another player.

This is due in large part to the way that the AI acts. Everything from actually reading your inputs, to employing random tactics, to being able to flawlessly block even the most ambiguous of cross-ups every time (yet still getting snagged by every third errant jab) make it feel, well, artificial. One could even argue that fighting against the AI isn’t even playing the same game as when battling another player.

After decades with the issue of actually needing another person present in order to truly level up in fighting games, the folks at Iron Galaxy Studios have launched Killer Instinct’s Shadows Mode as a means to counter this. Shadows Mode allows players to train the AI–their “shadow”–in how to effectively play the game like a human rather than an algorithm.

The first thing that you do when training your shadow is play three matches against an computer-controlled Jago. While this is only to get things started, the crew at Iron Galaxy claim that even by that point, your shadow will be pretty good at mimicking the way that you fight. Of course, the more data that your shadow has, the more that it can learn and the better it can mimic your actions. The developers also note that shadows can only use tactics that they’ve seen, but they’ll even go so far as taunting if you’ve trained them to do so.

This “shadowing” of a player isn’t based purely on recording inputs either; instead, shadows will attempt to adapt to fights the way that their owner would. They “naturally avoid trying to select the same action over and over,” and they have human reaction times, which is a major plus.

During the training process, you can, of course, challenge the shadows of other players, and you can also access the Shadow Brain menu, which details your shadow’s fighting style with an intricate breakdown that should help you train the best shadow possible while also finding your own flaws.

Below, you can check out the official Shadows Mode video to see what else the team has to say about this exciting addition to Killer Instinct. For a complete breakdown of everything included in this mode, you can also hit up the Ultra-Combo forums.

Ultra Street Fighter IV at Evo 2015 Officially Returns to Xbox 360

evo-2015-logo-622-2-crop

After a less than optimal Ultra Street Fighter IV launch on PlayStation 4 earlier this week, fans were worried about what this meant for competition on the Capcom Pro Tour, namely at Evo 2015 and Community Effort Orlando 2015. Fortunately, Capcom stepped forward and removed the aforementioned event’s obligations to run their brackets through the lackluster port, stating that tournaments were now free to revert back to their region’s standard platform.

While hints of a change were made before this announcement, Evo organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar came out today to officially announce that Ultra Street Fighter IV competition at this year’s event will return to Xbox 360. When asked if another decision would be made should the PlayStation 4 version be optimized, he confirmed that players can expect no further platform changes.

As the largest fighting game tournament in the world, Evo’s return to Xbox 360, the previously recognized community standard, should definitely ease some of the worries competitors had as we near the event. With an extra $50,000 and the bundle of ranking points courtesy of Capcom Pro Tour, it’s great to see this rather important obstacle overcome.

GODSGARDEN #10 Coming in June, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND Chosen as Main Titles

godsgarden-10

It’s been around a year and a half since GODSGARDEN last hosted a numbered entry in its eponymous tournament series. You might have forgotten the series even existed, but rest assured, GODSGARDEN is still alive and, for the first time, will feature not just one main event, but two!

Yesterday on GODSGARDEN’s weekly KaoTV! broadcast, co-founder and former Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike legend Soushihan KSK announced GODSGARDEN #10, with Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND as the main titles. It’s not just coincidence that two Arc System Works titles were selected for competition, as GODS#10 will serve as a ARC REVOLUTION CUP 2015 qualifier, giving the champions of each game a spot in Arc’s official tournament on August 15.

As is tradition with the GODSGARDEN series, the player fan vote will be making its return. The top two vote receivers for each title will be allowed to skip the preliminary rounds and move straight to the eight-player finals tournament bracket. Details for the vote are still being set, but keep an eye out in the near future for the start of the voting period.

GODSGARDEN #10 is scheduled for June 27 and 28 at the Akihabara Cafe&Bar SIXTEEN in Tokyo.
