Sony Expecting Ultra Street Fighter IV’s First PlayStation 4 Patch Submission Tomorrow

usfiv-yangdeejay-622-crop

After Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 saw one of the worst fighting game launches in recent memory (well, apart from Mortal Kombat X’s PC release, obviously) progress has been made on a fix according to Sony’s director of third-party production Gio Corsi.

“First patch being submitted tomorrow,” Corsi mentioned in a tweet earlier today. “Will test and update you all with improvements.”

This progress report comes just a day after a previous acknowledgement of the issues plaguing the port from Corsi as well as a message from Capcom themselves, who apparently had very little to do with its development but are now stepping in to assist in correcting the numerous issues.

At this point in time, little can be surmised as to what is actually corrected, when players will see it released, and how many patches are needed to bring the title up to speed, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Stay tuned for more details.

With the surprise announcement that Tanya will be joining the Mortal Kombat X cast next Tuesday, June 2, many of us were quick to speculate what kind of gameplay the returning character has in store. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait very long.

The day before, NetherRealm Studios plans to show Tanya off live during another Kombat Kast. These streams have regularly showcased the game’s mechanics and character attributes both before and after launch, so this should be a fantastic way to learn a bit about the crafty Edenian before her release.

Kombat Kast will be live on Monday, June 1, at 1 PM PDT, 4 PM EDT; be sure to tune into Twitch and catch it all live.

Soccer Crowd in Saudi Arabia Organizes Mortal Kombat-Inspired Choreography

During a recent Asian Champions League soccer match between Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal and Persepolis F.C. of Iran, fans collaborated on a pretty spectacular showing that combined support for their home team with a love of the iconic fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat.

This choreography, colloquially known as a tifo in the world of football, displayed a gigantic image of Sub-Zero before imploring the Saudi team to FINISH ‘EM.

Al Hilal would go on to defeat Persepolis and earn a spot in the next round of competition. Whether or not the crowd’s collage had anything to do with it is still up for debate, but this fighting game fan likes to imagine it gave the players that last push they needed to secure victory.

This is How Lab Zero Games’ Legacy Controller Driver is Supposed to Work on PlayStation 4

Both Mortal Kombat X and Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 support the use of PlayStation 3 controllers courtesy of a driver created by Skullgirls developers Lab Zero Games. However, both do so in a less than ideal manner, requiring players to sign into a profile with a PlayStation 4 controller first and keep them connected.

In response to this, community member Worldjem got together with Lab Zero’s Mike Zaimont at Combo Breaker to released a video showing how Skullgirls 2nd Encore will implement the driver.

As the video below demonstrates, as soon as Skullgirls has loaded, players can simply disconnect whatever native controller they used to start it up. After which, they can plug in any PlayStation 3 controller that works with the driver and the game will recognize it without needing the players to sign in to a profile.

Unlike the aforementioned major studio titles, this method makes it so that only one PlayStation 4 controller is needed for two players, freeing up time and making things much simpler both from casual and tournament-level perspectives.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] Impressions Pour in from Japanese Location Tests

Thanks to recent location tests in Japan, folks who were unable to try out Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] for themselves could at least keep up with impressions from players on the ground.

The last week or so has been a flurry of information about the forthcoming update to French-Bread and Ecole Software’s newest franchise, but fortunately the folks over at Dustloop have done a fantastic job compiling details from various sources. While none of these changes are final due to the nature of these public showings, they do provide a nice look at what the developers are focusing on heading into the update.

That being said, two of the more interesting pieces of information fall outside the arena of character adjustments. The first, which was mentioned in the initial announcement, gives players in Vorpal the ability to cancel attacks into Veil Off if they have 100 meter, effectively resetting the bounce limit in the given combo. In addition, first hits now grant Vorpal state automatically unless either player has already entered into the powered-up state during the match.

For a complete look at what French-Bread has in store for Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], be sure to visit Dustloop.

Learn About the Head of Shadowloo in Capcom UK’s World Warrior Series

The newest episode of Capcom UK’s World Warriors series, which highlights the psycho power-sporting M. Bison, comes at the perfect time to celebrate his inclusion in the Street Fighter V cast.

Capcom UK loaded the video with footage featuring the man in red doling out double knee presses of (in)justice across a host of Street Fighter titles, but don’t expect top-level play. They’ve also included plenty of cutscenes from across  series to help detail the Shadowloo leader’s mysterious background.

With such an eventful past, it’s easy to see why Bison now sports a head full of grey hair; being a dictator isn’t exactly stress-free.

Sajam Discusses Options for Dealing with High-Hitting Wakeup Attacks in Mortal Kombat X

In a game so reliant on beginning and maintaining pressure, players of Mortal Kombat X need to know when to respect their opponent’s wakeup options so that they can keep pressing their advantage with (sometimes) never-ending 50/50 okizeme. Reading a wakeup attack and blocking it is great, but even if the blocked attack leaves its owner at massive disadvantage, it can still be impossible to punish under the right circumstances.

In the video below, Sajam explores a couple of Raiden’s wake up options that, on top of being armored, hit high. Since high attacks only connect with standing targets and crouching targets who have opted to hold block, players can simply duck these attacks and even stick out a low-hitting limb without fear of being struck. Ducking also keeps the would-be defender out of blockstun and in close proximity to their target, therefore allowing punishes that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible.

Employing this strategy requires a precise knowledge of the options that each character possesses. For example, while the options that Sajam shows do hit high, Raiden’s Electric Fly–which can also be given armor–hits mid. So, just like most things in the fighting genre, this isn’t an answer to every situation, but it is one more trick to keep in mind to keep the pace of the battle in your favor.

Next BlazBlue Planned for 2016, May Include Team Mechanics

bbcp-izayoiamane-622-crop

Speaking with Siliconera, Arc System Works’ Toshimichi Mori mentioned that he has some interesting possibilities in mind for the next full installment in the BlazBlue series. Apart from mentioning a tentative 2016 release date, the idea of the playable roster surpassing 30 characters has the producer thinking of radically different gameplay mechanics.

While team battles are a mainstay in the fighting game community thanks to games like Marvel and King of Fighters, BlazBlue has remained a one-on-one affair since it debuted in 2009.

As for how these team dynamics may manifest, Mori brought up two distinct possibilities, citing Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Tekken Tag Tournament as examples. With the added power afforded by the PlayStation 4, real-time character switching is certainly possible, according to the developer, though some of the series’ traditional style may need to be toned down a bit.

For more of Siliconera’s discussion with Mori, as well as some hinting at a Guilty Gear crossover, be sure to check out their interview here.

Capcom Pro Tour Drops Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 Until Launch Issues Resolved

capcom-protour-622-crop

With the utter avalanche of problems cropping up in Ultra Street Fighter IV for PlayStation 4 on a regular basis, folks were obviously upset on a personal level with how things went down. But, in a competitive sense, the greater issue came from the port’s importance to the Capcom Pro Tour, especially with regards to Evo 2015 and Community Effort Orlando 2015.

While both Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar and Alex Jebailey made separate statements suggesting that they would not use the PlayStation 4 version at their respective events as long as it remained unpatched, many community members were waiting on word from Capcom as to how they would handle the tournament circuit moving forward.

Earlier tonight, a statement was released on Capcom-Unity from the developers themselves to shine a light on where they stood. “A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the [PlayStation 4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV] will affect them and the [Capcom Pro Tour],” the message reads. “To that we’d like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organizers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run.

To attain that goal, Capcom has officially stated that each tournament will continue to use whatever hardware is standard to their region throughout the rest of this year’s pro tour. Further word on when the PlayStation 4 release will see a return to competition is expected later.

As for their involvement in fixing Ultra Street Fighter IV, Capcom is currently working with Sony to resolve the buggy game’s glaring problems “as quickly as possible.” The community can expect updates on their progress along the way.

Although it’s apparent Capcom had very little to do with the development of this title, one has to wonder how it would have fared if they had kept a closer eye on it. Let’s hope the corrections come fast now that they are actively involved in the process.

NashFan Faces EMP|Hiro in Online Ultra Street Fighter IV Matchup

The folks over at Olympic Gaming are back with another Ultra Street Fighter IV video, this time showing off a long set between two great competitors instead of spotlighting an individual player.

In the footage below, NashFan takes on Empire Arcadia’s Hiro, who Olympic has featured in one of their previous videos, in an extended first-to-ten set. While the matchup does take place online and therefore has a few moments of lag, it still showcases the skill that both of these players bring to the table.
