Mortal Kombat X Jason Voorhees Roundup feat. Tips from REO, X-Ray Combos, and More

The Mortal Kombat X community got their hands on the game’s first post-launch character yesterday and it seems like everyone has been hitting the lab to find out the best ways to stylishly end the lives of campers with Jason Voorhees. But before we get into combos with the horror movie vet, let’s get things rolling with some basic character breakdowns so everyone knows which end of the machete to hold.

First up, SupermanSajam discusses everything that you need to know before strapping on your hockey mask. As with previous character breakdowns, this video covers notable normals, the differences between the fighter’s variations, and a general plan of approach that players should follow in order to be certain no one will make it out alive.

The second character breakdown comes from REO and Team Spooky’s Arturo Sanchez, who take a quick look at Jason’s combo options across each of his variations. REO covers some basic combos for each variant, including an important Slasher option that offers a side swap, some nearly full-screen carry combos for Relentless, and ways to safely apply the fighter’s healing buff in Unstoppable.

For the first dedicated combo video, we’ve got a quick selection of high-damage options from Spherax. These come from the fighter’s Unstoppable variant and often assume that his damage buff has been previously applied, but you can find out how to safely do that in the next video.

Nico Montano has delivered an incredible amount of Goro technology since the release of Mortal Kombat X, and just last week they offered up an extensive video covering how to safely combo into Kano’s Cutthroat power-up. It makes sense then that we’d see the same sort of video for Jason’s Unstoppable variant.

For our first set of general combos, VesperArcade takes control of each of Jason’s variants to offer up plenty of devastating and stylish options.

In the next video, Hurtbox TV gives Jason’s combos the same sort of attention that they’ve given many of the other characters in the cast so far. This nearly five minute reel of combo mayhem covers each of the new fighter’s variants and offers options for a variety of openers and amounts of meter expenditure.

This second video from Hurtbox TV focuses solely on ways to combo into Jason’s X-Ray and maximize combo damage. While some of these do press into the 60% range, one has to wonder if it’s worth using this much meter to tack on so little additional damage. Under normal circumstances (where the combo isn’t going to kill), it almost certainly isn’t, due to how important meter is for wakeup attacks and combo breakers.

It’s still cool to have these in your back pocket for wowing some friends, though.

And it just wouldn’t be a new character without a potential bug. Arturo and REO discovered this hitbox oddity yesterday, seemingly allowing Sub-Zero to make Jason whiff with a forward dash. This obviously needs more testing, but it’s still an interesting day one discovery.

Have you found something brutal in Mortal Kombat X that you can’t wait to share? Drop us a line and let us know; your video could be featured in our next roundup!

Watch As Cerebella Works Around Squiggly’s Level 3 is This Amazing Skullgirls Encore Combo Video

When it comes to combo videos, there are usually two types.  On one hand, you have practical videos that are meant to show optimized stuff for players to use in actual matches, on the other you have the insanely flashy ones that are take advantage of certain interactions in the game to produce impressive but impractical combos just for show.

This next Skullgirls: Encore combo video we have here definitely falls into the second category. In the video, Dragonos451 finds a way to work around Squiggly’s level 3 super – a  tracking projectile that can be manually controlled to hit the opponent even if Squiggly herself is in hitstun – to create a sort of obstacle course that their character (Cerebella) needs to work through while still continuing her combo on Squiggly.

Another interesting thing about the video below is that it does go a bit meta. The first part shows an easier variation done before the game was patched during the middle of production – something that required a total rethink of how to do the combos, and one that arguably makes the combos below more impressive.

Smash and Grab Discusses Clone Characters in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Clone characters are a great way to inflate a game’s roster, and every fighting game has seen its share of cast augmentation over the years. Sometimes, these clones are met with negativity, but that isn’t always the case. A few characters may even begin their lives as clones and, as a series grows, develop unique attacks–Super Smash Bros.’ Luigi is a great example of this sort of evolution, as is Street Fighter’s Ken.

Below, you’ll find the newest offering from Smash and Grab, which discusses this topic at length. Through the creative use of character dialogue from the game’s Fire Emblem representatives, they touch on some of the history of clone characters and how a handful of these clones differ from one another. Specific attention is paid to Pit and Dark Pit as well as Lucina and Marth, as these are some of the most similar clones that the current version of Smash has to offer. There are, of course, still a number of differences between them, as you’ll see below.

Newcomer Gigas Mixes Familiar and Unique Attacks in Tekken 7 Debut

The folks at Game Plaza Gao have been doing a great job at demonstrating the movesets of Tekken 7’s newcomers. Now, they’re back with another video for the latest cast member to join the 7th King of Iron Fist tournament, Gigas.

As we previously reported, Gigas has quite a few moves that have been borrowed from Craig Marduk, including his QCF+2 and down+3, as well as Ancient Ogre’s sidestep 4, only without the necessary movement. These are in addition to some of his more unique moves, including a belly flop that looks quite safe and can lead to further offense.

Give the video below a spin and share your thoughts on Gigas’ moves in the comments.

Since teamwork is the key to victory in any doubles match, this video is dedicated to the ways in which players can work together.

Major Mortal Kombat X PC Patch Pulled After Wiping Save Data

mkx-johnnycagesonyablade-622-crop

Mortal Kombat fans on PC, rejoice! Your bug-laden copy of Mortal Kombat X is on the path to being an actual, playable game. Well, we’re almost there, anyways.

The latest patch, which finally saw NetherRealm Studios step in and assist port lead High Voltage Software, purported to correct a number of issues that have been plaguing the title since launch. And boy was it a doozy; this update weighed in at just under 16 GBs, most notably addressing a glut of crashes that rendered Mortal Kombat X nearly inoperable during its early days.

Unfortunately, there always seems to be a downside, and this patch’s positives brought with them a rather glaring negative.

According to numerous reports on Test Your Might and Steam, saves were being wiped left and right after the update, eventually forcing the developers the pull the patch to correct these brand new issues. It’s at this point I’d like to point out the absurdity of a patch that includes a “safety check to try to eliminate save data loss” resulting in even more data loss, but at least they moved relatively quickly to catch the problem.

For more details on what was included in this update, be sure to check out the official Steam post. We’ll be sure to keep you informed when it becomes available again.
