ShowDown recently went live with another installment of their weekly Churning the Butter tournament. They have once again taken over Folsom Street Foundry in San Francisco, California to put on an Ultra Street Fighter IV for some of the strongest players in the region.

Tonight’s event continues their Spring Championships series, allowing the best of the best to show their chops against other high-level opponents in preparation for the finals.

Before that, however, AVerMedia will be hosting a special kumite featuring star player Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang, allowing the local talent a chance to test their skills against the Taiwanese competitor before the main event begins.

In his most recent Super Smash Bros. for Wii U video, Alpharad flattens opponents with the 2D powerhouse Mr. Game & Watch. Since his introduction to the series, the old-school Nintendo mascot has been bringing the pain with a variety of moves, some of which barely live up to being dubbed “attacks.” From lifting up a sewer lid with his down tilt to frying up heaps of delicious bacon, this fighter brings to the world of Smash the same sort of kit that Phoenix Wright offers the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 lineup.

But his most memorable and often frustrating attack is his hammer, which takes just as much luck with the random number generator as it does skill in order to secure kills. Luckily, Alpharad has been graced by a streak of high-number hammers and slams out nine after glorious nine in the most ridiculous ways possible.

The folks at NetherRealm Studios have returned once again for another installment of the Kombat Kast. As with their past Mortal Kombat X shows, this one will focus on the upcoming fighter and the various characters that make up its cast. You can also expect some more details on the mobile port, so be sure to tune in for all the latest information.

Akuma’s crouching forward in Ultra Street Fighter IV drastically lowers his hurtbox; it gets so low, in fact, that Ryu’s Super will sail right over him at the right spacing. With this in mind, CLxJames hit the lab to find practical uses for this technique in other matchups. The first he explores, which you’ll find in the video below, involves the Shadowloo Boxer himself, Balrog.

Since most of Balrog’s reversal options lack a low hitbox, Akuma can (almost) fearlessly apply meaty pressure with his crouching forward on a downed Boxer. A couple of Rog’s attacks will connect with the demon’s meaty attempts, but generally speaking, this okizeme option can be used to score the big damage and stun numbers that Akuma is known for.

As CLxJames shows, you can also buffer in a Raging Demon to make this option even more terrifying than it already is.

Arc System Works recently uploaded BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND’s intro sequence and, as you’ll see for yourself below, the company certainly hasn’t lost their touch when it comes to hyping up their games.

While the cinematic doesn’t include any in-game footage, it does offer up glimpses at various story elements from the BlazBlue universe, including every character that they could fit into the 90 seconds of footage.

If you enjoyed the intro sequence for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, be sure to check this out, as it is Arc System Works at their finest–even without the inclusion of “Heavy Day.”

BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND is scheduled to hit Japanese shores April 23, with a North American release planned for this summer.

It’s been a while since Brawl Karter brought us a new Mario showcase from the newest installment of Super Smash Bros., but their most recent video was worth the wait.

Instead of dedicating another video entirely to plumber’s down special, this video spends a good deal of time with his cape. While the cape can reflect projectiles, and Brawl Karter does show off some of that, the more interesting applications of this side special involve the slow fall effect that it provides.

This leads to plenty of forward air spikes thanks to the cape’s ability to put Mario where he shouldn’t be at just the right time to nail down a victory. And of course, Brawl Karter rounds things out with a handful of F.L.U.D.D. kills, because they’re they’re too great not to include.

There’s no question that Sheik is currently one of the best characters in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. She’s fast, she has access to all sorts of combo options to help her stack on the damage, and her recovery game is certainly nothing to scoff at. Sadly, when it comes to securing a stock, things can get a little bit tricky. Thankfully, with the right creative mindset, the mysterious fighter can knock out stocks with the best of them and look fantastic while doing so.

Mr-R of LowLandLions and False recently teamed up to show off a lengthy collection of Sheik strings that not only pile on the percentage, but also allow for moves like Bouncing Fish to follow and secure a kill. Of course, there’s plenty more beyond Bouncing Fish secures to look forward to: stage spikes, clutch down airs, and some of the most creative use of Sheik’s side B out there.

If you like to see characters played to their highest potential, you’ll not want to miss this footage.

Level|Up Series returns to the world of tournaments tonight with another installment of Wednesday Night Fights Online Edition. Moving from the world of offline competition to netplay is sure to provide a look at players who don’t often get enough attention, so tune in below for some great Ultra Street Fighter IV action.
