pokkentournament-screen-3-622-crop

Since its announcement last year, we haven’t really heard much about Pokkén Tournament, the Pokémon fighting game being developed by Bandai Namco Games under the supervision of Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada. The developers plan to rectify this, however, later this month during the next installment of Famitsu’s live monthly news broadcast.

No early information has been released as to what will be shared during the program, but he game’s official website has been updated with a new logo and renders for Lucario and Machamp.

The stream will be hosted on January 23 through Niconico at 7 PM JST (2 AM Pacific, 5 AM EST for North American viewers).

Pokkén Tournament is currently scheduled for an arcade release later this year.

Learn How to Utilize Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’s Defensive Option Selects

While many regard the airdasher sub-genre as one that focuses mainly on offense over defense, learning to counter what your opponent throws at you is just as important as it is in slower-paced titles.

With Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on the verge of resurgence thanks to the beginning of a brand new tournament season and an impending arcade update, three very helpful members of the community have stepped forward to make entry into the title a bit easier from the defensive side of things.

Starting off, we have an incredibly comprehensive tutorial from Team Spooky’s LordKnight that covers a ton of information, including the various options available to members of the cast, background on the mechanics, ways they can be beat, and much more.

Though a very good starting point when first trying out Persona, there’s much more to learn in the way of defensive option selects. Fortunately, Bace and M’Ellis took the torch and created a sort of sequel to LordKnight’s guide that covers further ground from a more technical standpoint.

In addition to teaching how to pull off these defensive option selects, the two players also discuss how they shape the game’s overall strategy with regards to tier lists, risk vs. reward, and more.

Add Edge Sliding to Your Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Toolset with Zeta’s Tutorial

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS has proven to contain quite a bit of depth beneath those beautifully rendered characters from our childhoods. While the community has yet to stumble across something as game changing as the wavedashing technique made famous in SUper Smash Bros. Melee, there are plenty of roster-wide maneuvers that up the ante while providing benefits to players who harness their power.

Adding another item to this growing list, Zeta recently put together a video showing off what they’re calling “edge sliding.” This technique seems to work much like perfect pivoting, in that it can be used to greatly extend the effective range of various attacks.

In addition to showing how to perform an edge slide, Zeta demonstrates how it stacks up against perfect pivoting so you can get a better feel for which technique best suits your style. There’s a good chance that they’ll both be useful in certain situations, so hit up the lab and see what you think.

Doopliss and Desk Keep Focus on Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Omega Mode

With news swirling about new titles like Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat X, and Tekken 7, our attention towards Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Omega Mode has drifted a bit since it was first released. But just because we haven’t been posting about content relating to Omega’s unique remixed gameplay doesn’t mean folks haven’t stopped creating it, and we have some great stuff to show off this afternoon.

First up, Doopliss has released a couple of lengthy combo videos over the past few weeks, broken up between original World Warriors and those that first made appearances in Super Turbo. Much like their earlier exhibitions, these feature some crazy stuff only possible in Omega, making full use of the new tools the characters have been granted.

Of course, you can’t have a discussion about combo videos these days without mentioning Desk, and he’s certainly been putting in work since Ultra Street Fighter IV was updated. As of today, the execution master has released a grand total of thirty-five Omega videos. While we’ve featured some of them before, you’ll find the full playlist included below to help you catch up.

Get Hype! Mike Z Demonstrates Beowulf’s Unique Crowd Excitement Mechanic in Skullgirls Encore

As is the case with most every installment, Lab Zero Games had a few treats in store for Skullgirls Encore fans during last week’s Salty! broadcast. While going over the new balance experiments in the Endless Beta, lead developer Mike Zaimont also took the time to demonstrate the interesting hype mechanic employed by upcoming roster addition Beowulf.

By doing specific moves or taunting, Beowulf can build up to three levels of crowd excitement, gaining buffs along the way. For example, having at least one level of hype allows him to link certain throw finishers out of most of his supers.

For those who missed it, Makr0ss has posted a recording of this particular portion of the stream, which we’ve included below. The segment on Beowulf’s excitement mechanic can be found around thirteen minutes in.
