FINAL SHOWDOWN Demonstrates Some of Sol Badguy’s Ridiculous Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Combos

As the more aggressive of Guilty Gear’s two main characters, Sol Badguy has always been able to pull off some impressive looking combos, and his Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- iteration is no exception. Veteran combo video maker FINAL SHOWDOWN demonstrates just how ridiculous Sol can get in the new game in his latest combo video.

The exhibition demonstrates multiple mid-screen corner carries as well as some damaging corner combos, including a few that utilize his infamous Dust Loop.

As amazing as these are, however, the video below is only the first part of a series, so be sure to check back here for when the second part comes up.

Skullgirls Encore Endless Beta Gains Super Jumps Inspired by Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Super Jump Skullgirls Beta SMALL

[Note: This article covers a mechanic from the Skullgirls Encore Endless Beta build currently live on Steam. As this mechanic appears only in the beta client and since statements have been made confirming that it is, in fact, only a test at this time, please note that this may not ever actually make it into the live game. That said, read on to learn about the new superjumps!]

Just in time for the twentieth anniversary of the release of Capcom’s first foray into Marvel, Skullgirls lead programmer Mike “Mike Z” Zaimont has decided to tweak the superjump mechanic in Skullgirls Encore’s Endless Beta to be more like those that we remember from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Since it may be difficult to imagine what this looks like within the game’s engine, Mike Z game a quick breakdown of the mechanic in the patch notes to point our imaginations in the right direction:

  • Everyone has double the takeoff velocity for superjumps, and has air control with the joystick.
  • Hitting with a normal during a superjump cuts your upward velocity in half, just like all the old Versus games.
  • Just for this experiment Painwheel’s flight speed (in all directions but especially upward) has been increased to help it compete with superjumps.

After spending a brief period with the mechanic myself, I can confirm that certain combos that used to work do not currently connect as they once did. But don’t be discouraged by this; when one combo door closes, another one opens. Since jumps accelerate at a much higher rate and result in much more height in general, I have faith that new combo discoveries are just a training mode session away.

Vesper Arcade Examines Ryu’s New Toolset in Street Fighter V

As some of you may know, a couple of weeks back Capcom and Sony announced that Street Fighter V was in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. Since then, we’ve seen a couple of gameplay trailers as well as a stage demo at Capcom Cup 2014 courtesy of Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas and Twitch’s Mike Ross.

While alot of folks immediately posted their own impressions and observations of the game, Vesper Arcade decided to wait a bit and take their time to review and process the footage for more in depth impressions of it. The result is this three episode series breaking down what we’ve seen so far. The first episode, which you can catch below, focuses on Street Fighter’s most iconic character, Ryu.

In the breakdown, Vesper Arcade notes a few interesting things that folks might not have noticed. These include what seems to be a new normal as well as some interesting changes to his existing ones, such as the possibility that his far standing strong and far standing fierce animations from Street Fighters III and IV may actually be switched around (which was the case in Street Fighter Alpha and Alpha 2).

The other interesting thing about Ryu is how his hadouken gains an additional hit once he activates his special elemental stance, and that this property remains throughout the match, even when his stance runs out. Not only that, the number of hits that he gains on his fireball increases every time he activates.

Of course, these are just some of the things that the video covers, so check it out below and share your thoughts on it (as well your own observations on Street Fighter V’s Ryu) in the comments.

Bingo! Pick Up Some Optimal Ultra Street Fighter IV Cody Counter-Hit Options

On top of being one of the only fighters who brings a knife to a fist fight, Cody is also known for his outstanding counter-hit game in Ultra Street Fighter IV. Not only does the perpetually bored brawler dish out some very real damage numbers once he scores a counter-hit, he also has plenty of ways to set up these situations for himself.

In the video below from GroundedSF, you’ll find a collection of counter-hit combos that follow after the buttons most likely to interrupt opponents. As we’ve seen from previous videos, some of these situations will only come up once in a million matches, but there are plenty of options that will come in handy on a (much) more routine basis as well.

Chemical Lovers Discuss I-No’s Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Changes

After detailing the game’s revamped Roman Cancel system, the Chemical Lovers team is back to covering how characters have changed in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. This time out, they discuss none other than the character whose special move the team takes its name from, I-No.

In transitioning to Xrd, I-No received some changes in her movement. No longer able to double airdash, she instead gains the ability to transition into a normal airdash from her hoverdash, as well as hoverdash cancel out of certain normals. Meanwhile, the game’s new Yellow Roman Cancel compliment her Music Note, Stroke the Big Tree, and Chemical Love specials. The latter also loses its old, convoluted motion for a simpler one in this game.

Of course, these are just some of the few things that have changed for I-No in the game. Watch the video below to see the rest of these changes and you can apply them to your own skillset.
