As of this morning, Killer Instinct has been updated to ver.2.2, bringing with it a brand new character, a host of balance changes for the existing cast, new alternate outfits, and more.
With this patch, Riptor is now playable, joining the growing stable of veteran fighters to bring her ferocious gameplay to a new generation of Killer Instinct players.
Riptor comes equipped with a variety of mechanics, such as her unique stance and dedicated buttons, that give her a very versatile playstyle.
Much like past updates, ver.2.2 is rolling out in waves, so if your game has yet to be patched, sit tight.
One of the new things given to Faust in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is the ability to hit the items he tosses out with his baseball swing Dust attack. This allows him more options in his zoning game by giving him more angles that he can control space from.
While the idea is simple enough, the execution isn’t as straightforward as it may seem due to the different properties of the many items he has at his disposal. To help players understand this, Zissou produced a new video that covers Faust’s items and demonstrates how to consistently change their trajectory.
The key, they say, is to hold down the punch button to make Faust toss the items closer to him. Not only does this give the player more time to identify the item, but it also removes any randomness in its flight path. Of course, each item still has its own unique properties, so hit up the video below to learn more about them.
I know you all love announcements of announcements, so here’s a great one: a Mortal Kombat X character reveal is apparently heading our way next month.
This news comes courtesy of the United Kingdom’s GamesMaster magazine, who recently revealed that they’ve been provided some exclusive information on the title that will be revealed in an upcoming edition.
Who this mysterious fighter may be, however, is anyone’s guess. NetherRealm Studios executive producer Shaun Himmerick mentioned in a recent interview that Quan Chi’s appearance in Mortal Kombat X allows them to do some interesting things with the story thanks to his ability to resurrect the dead, which definitely opens the possibilities up a bit.
The issue in question will hit newsstands on January 2, so stay tuned for more information as we near that date.
Mortal Kombat X is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on April 14.
After their mutual parting of ways with Super Arcade earlier this year, Level|Up Series has stepped back from putting on regular tournaments to refocus their attention on larger events like SoCal Regionals. Fortunately, it appears as if they are looking to jump back into weekly events, though the platform may be a bit different than expected.
During a special broadcast this evening, Level|Up president and longtime community member Alex Valle opened up about their next venture. While still under the Wednesday Night Fights banner they made famous over the past few years, these new events will instead focus on netplay competition instead of offline meetings.
Wednesday Night Fights Online Edition came about as a way for Level|Up Series to continue their tradition of consistent tournament action without fragmenting the strong Southern California scene. By moving online, players across the country will be allowed to take part, improve their game, and possibly get their names out there in preparation for the huge rewards available at next year’s Capcom Cup.
Much in the way the original Wednesday Night Fights brought a piece of the old arcade days to present-day competition, Valle is hoping to show that online play is a valuable resource for the community as a whole.
Valle wasn’t able to provide too many details apart from what’s described above, but he did drop one teasing tagline before signing off: “Wednesday Night Fights Online Edition is coming to a home near you.”
We’re sure to be given more information in the near future but, until then, feel free to let us know what you think of this shift in Level|Up’s focus in the comments below.
With Microsoft Studios’ Killer Instinct reboot well into its second season, there’s now a ton of content for players who have been around since the very beginning. Jumping in now, however, can be quite a daunting task financially, even after purchasing the Xbox One and update arcade stick necessary to get the most out of the game.
Fortunately, the folks at Microsoft recently put forward a decent sale on Killer Instinct content. The complete collection bundles the Ultra editions of both seasons, providing the full range of current characters and access to new cast members as they become available, not to mention a handful of alternate outfits, ports of previous titles, and more.
While this would normally run you $79.99, the price has been decreased by 33% to $53.59 as part of Xbox Live’s holiday sale.
If you’re interested, be sure to act quick, because this offer will only be available until December 22.
UltraChen TV is back with yet another broadcast, and a whole new slate of topics to discuss. Tonight, UltraDavid and James Chen will be discussing Capcom Cup 2014, HADOCON VI, Ultra Street Fighter IV’s most recent patch, Omega Mode, and more.
The stream will be live in this article, but you can also visit Twitch to join the chat.
Only a couple of days after Bafael released his extensive Elena tutorial, patch 1.04 was unleashed on the world, bringing small tweaks to a number of cast members, including the Kenyan princess herself. Luckily, Bafael took the time to examine the changes that she received with the patch and show them in action.
The major adjustments she received include a more reliable way to combo out of moves that leave her +3 on hit through light Scratch Wheel’s faster startup, a more consistent Lynx Tail, and a Rhino Horn that can now connect with crouching opponents.
On the whole, it seems that she mainly received some quality of life improvements that will make combos more reliable across the cast, though Bafael does express disdain for some tools that she still lacks, namely an inexpensive way to force her opponents to stand for some of her bigger damage combos.
Give the video below a spin to check all of this out for yourself.
After a short delay, the SNK classic King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition is now available to purchase on Steam.
Ported to PC by Code Mystics (who have also handled Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct rereleases), this title takes the old-school fighter and puts it on a platform never before graced by its presence. Plus, with the Final Edition adjustments in place, this is the first time North American audiences have had a chance to play this version of the game–outside of visiting a Japanese arcade, of course.
This release comes with all the modes you’d expect from a modern fighting game release, including netplay, challenges, practice, and more. As an added bonus, the original NEO-GEO version is also included for all you purists out there.
King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition can be purchased solo for $14.99 or as a two-pack for $25.99 if you feel like treating a friend for the holidays.
The folks over at VG BootCamp recently went live with another installment of Smash @ Xanadu from Xanadu Games in Baltimore, Maryland. These weekly broadcasts provide a great look at the region’s Smash community. Tonight’s stream will focus on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Project M.
If you’re interested in some Smash Bros. action, be sure to tune in. The stream is live below, but you can also head on over to Twitch to join the chat.
Yesterday, we showcased the first round of community-made Ultra Street Fighter IV Omega Mode videos, and they were every bit as exciting as we could have hoped. Now that everyone has had a full day with the new mode, we’re starting to see entire combo videos dedicated to single characters. The word of the day seems to be “loops,” so be on the look out for that.
First up, we’ve got a collection of Guy combos from Clayton Chapman, a regular on the SRK forums. The strings make use of a vast amount of the ninja’s new tools and push the limits of his looping potential all while maintaining a level of class that only a master of the Bushinryu can.
Yesterday, we featured a clip that showed AVM|Gamerbee examining the intricacies of Adon’s changes in Omega and today we’ve got another pro player showing off some new tricks. Filipino Champ took Seth to the lab and found that the way his EX Sonic Boom functions allows for all sorts of crazy things to take place–mid-combo jumps, for example. I honestly never thought that I’d see something quite like this in the Street Fighter IV engine, but it’s Omega Mode so anything can happen.
Alright, the next set of combos are brutal. Seriously. It doesn’t even matter how much damage they do (it’s a lot). Everyone got some new animation love in this update, but Oni has some of the most bone-crushing specials that the property has ever seen, and Burnout Fighter does a masterful job of stringing them together in a fashion that accents that quality.
It’s no secret that Dudley’s non-Omega iteration has some of the most absurd juggle potential in the game; anyone who has ever watched PIE|Smug play can probably agree on that point. But Omega opened up all sorts of new options for the gentleman boxer–options that look like they could end at any moment once they get going, but instead continue to drag on until the damage numbers soar into the hundreds. Some of them even break the 600 damage barrier. No big deal. Good thing he’s wearing the gloves.
In the next video, Satwid3n shows off Rufus’ newly-increased gravitational pull tied to the Omega version of Galactic Tornado. The suction on this move borders on ridiculous and it allows him to keep combos going long after they should have stopped. There’s also something majestic about the way a ground-based Snake Strike looks. It reminds me of the first time that I saw the fast-talking fighter soar through the sky with his dive kick. It defied logic, but boy was it ever magnificent.
CharmingRogue takes control of Cammy in the next clip to demonstrate some interesting new juggles she’s received in Omega Mode. It seems that her jumping strong can follow her new Killer Bee Stinger special, and the resulting juggle allows all sorts of options to follow including, but certainly not limited to, her Ultra 1.
M. Bison received some interesting additions in Omega Mode, which mickdo8640 explores in this next bit of footage. It seems that the dictator is now capable of performing Scissor Kick loops of multiple varieties and has also been equipped with a command overhead, which allows for follow-up attacks. This version of Bison’s mix-up game is a lot deeper than cross-up Psycho Crushers shenanigans.
Grab your shades, it’s time for some Sonic Booms! Wade Sikander sent in this quick collection of Guile combos that make use of the fighter’s newly-added mechanics. Many of the initial combos look pretty tame, or at least similar to some of the things that we already see from the Flash Kicker, but that all gets thrown aside by the halfway point in the video when multiple Sonic Booms come out to play.
Yesterday, CLxJames sent in a quick video that demonstrated Akuma’s added ability to combo into his Raging Demon super, allowing for the dreaded move to be a larger threat than ever before. Now that he has had a day to mess with the concept, we’ve been sent another video that further explores the different methods of getting to the sweet, sweet damage. Simple cancels from a close fierce work just fine, but longer strings that end with a Shoryuken and then a super? That’s just crazy…but it works.
What kinds of insane stuff have you found in Omega Mode? Send us your videos through our tip line!
