While his daddy has been a staple of the series for some time now, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS marks Bowser Jr.’s first foray as a playable character. For those interested in how the Koopa Clown Car riding terror plays, Smash and Grab have featured him in their latest character breakdown.

Despite the “Junior” label, Bowser Jr. is actually a heavy character thanks to his vehicle, from which he’s able to toss out various weapons from the Mario games. The video, which you can see below, breaks down which of his attacks can be used to knock an opponent off-stage, what combos he can do to build damage, and a few other tricks.

When Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago and Kyohei “Marlinpie” Lehr, both of Brokentier, first started showing off stylish combos for Doctor Doom, including what were the most brutal TAC combos that players had seen at the time, Doom became synonymous with style. But years after these combos were first discovered, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has become a game in which many of the characters are capable of re-creating the level of style that only Doom could previously conjure up. Has Doom’s time in the spotlight ended?

This video from finisherofwar answers that question with a resounding, “No,” and follows with a, “Not even a little.” While Doom can easily and efficiently put an end to any opponent placed in front of him through the use of optimized combos, it’s also possible to kick things up a few notches by adding in unnecessary hits and air dashes to not only drain a life bar, but to also strike fear in the heart of opponents while doing so.

There’s something to be said about the momentum gained from resorting to stylish strings when a simple corner loop would have done the job just as well. This footage from finisherofwar is a love letter to those sorts of combos.

Apart from fighting games, American football is probably my longest-running interest. It was nearly impossible not to be in my household, full of excited family members cheering on teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Minnesota Vikings, and that passion has stuck with me for the past two decades.

That’s why when Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo scored a touchdown and immediately broke into a special dance during his team’s losing effort to the New England Patriots last night, I was stunned. Something about it was incredibly familiar but for some reason I could not place where I had seen it before.

Fortunately, not everyone is as absent-minded as me. As archival footage began to find its way online through official National Football League sources, word began to spread that a football player had imitated Dhalsim during a scoring celebration. I was equal parts embarrassed that my many years of playing Street Fighter hadn’t ingrained the yogi’s iconic dance into my mind and relieved that I finally had my answer.

Tonight, the fine folks over at Level|Up Series are ready to make a foray into netplay territory with the first episode of their Online Warrior Championships. This and two future outings will be devoted to Killer Instinct, which was recently updated with season two content created by Microsoft and Iron Galaxy Studios.

This weekend, Dignitas hosted a very special Ultra Street Fighter IV invitational in cooperation with SCAN Computers, bringing together some of Europe’s best players to compete for a £1900 (~$2971 USD) prize pool.

In addition to Dignitas’ own Ryan Hart, competitors like CG|Problem X, GL|Valmaster, UM|ISDD, LLL|Prey, and TR|Halibel gathered online to test their skills against their fellow regional powerhouses.

With Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX’s recent home console release in Japan, Valkyria Chronicle’s Selvaria Bles now joins the game’s playable cast. For those wondering about what she is capable of, wauhti and Abelcru recently shared videos that take a look at the early combos they have been able to work out for her.

First off, wauhti describes the combos here as “day two combos,” so these shouldn’t be indicative of her overall combo potential. That said, there are already some impressive looking combos here, both for Selvaria on her own as well as with one of the many assist characters available in the game.

Abelcru’s video, on the other hand, focuses on combos and setups that are available to Selvaria when she is paired with fellow Valkyria Chronicles representative Alicia.

In their most recent entry in the Spotlight series, Olympic Gaming caught up with Master Bloothy, an Ultra Street Fighter IV player hailing from Mexico City. In the video below, you’ll find footage of this masterful Makoto taking the battle online against top players for their respective characters.

Makoto is known for her explosive damage and the often-unusual mixups afforded by her revamped EX Fukiage. Master Bloothy demonstrates character mastery through a deep understanding of this, combined with a wealth of matchup knowledge that turns would-be uphill battles into a walk in the park.

If you’re still struggling to shake off the weekend, maybe this multi-character Ultra Street Fighter IV combo video from Ambassador Foxx will give you the jolt that even that fifth cup of coffee couldn’t.

Ambassador Foxx shows off a wide array of combo-making skill as they unload some big damage strings with a large grouping of cast members. Guy, Guile, Elena, and a few more members show off some of their most damaging options. Perhaps the most terrifying display in the whole video, however, comes when Hugo anti-airs an unsuspecting Dhalsim, which very nearly ends up putting Dhalsim out of the match in a single combo.
