Community Donations Sending FGC|Pepeday to DreamHack Winter 2014

A few weeks ago, the r/Kappa subreddit held a successful fundraiser to send Japanese El Fuerte player Pepeday, from the Fukuoka Gamers Club, to The Fall Classic 2014. Now, the communty has banded together once again, raising money to send him to another Capcom Pro Tour qualifier–DreamHack Winter 2014.

After his performance in the United States, where he tied for fifth in The Fall Classic’s Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament and beat Snake Eyez in a first-to-ten exhibition, Pepeday quickly found his way onto the shortlist of players who the subreddit was looking to send to the Europe.

While the drive has a few days left, they have already made almost twice as much as their stated goal of $1,590. That said, anyone interested can still head over and donate to the drive.

DreamHack Winter 2014 will take place November 27-30 in Jönköping, Sweden, with the Capcom Pro Tour event itself scheduled for November 29. As a premier event, the first-place finisher will earn automatic entry into the Capcom Cup finals in December.

Beowulf’s Expanding Moveset, Experimental Beta Changes Showcased in Mike Z’s Latest Skullgirls Encore Demonstration at Rebel Up!

Much like he’s done the past few installments, Lab Zero Games’ Mike Zaimont was present at this weekend’s Rebel Up! event to show off some great Skullgirls Encore content, including some new moves for upcoming character Beowulf and a variety of changes they ar experimenting with in the game’s Endless Beta.

Apart from two new color palettes, one of which should be very familiar to any Marvel fans out there, Beowulf has been given a few new normals since last time we saw him. These include his crouching hard kick (with and without his folding chair), dropkicks in the form of standing and jumping medium kick, and his tag-in strike. He’s also received one notable adjustment on older moves, in that he can no longer chain out of attacks performed during his hopping forward dash.

As for the experiments in the Skullgirls Encore beta, Ms. Fortune can now hit her head more than once to set up interesting situations, Filia’s dash-jump heavy kick no longer crosses up, single-character players will now see their red health recover up to half, and more.

Earn a PhD in Big Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Damage with Doctors Banner, Strange, and Doom

David Galarza recently donned his lab coat and hit the Danger Room with a team of doctors to devise the best way to dispatch enemy teams in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The results, which were recorded and can be found below, were incredibly successful.

Expect raw Gamma Charges from the Hulk and Team Hyper Combos confirmed into character kills; expect Doctor Strange palm loops and plenty of hidden missiles courtesy of Doctor Doom; but most of all, expect solid proof that knowledge is, in fact, power.

Be sure to stick around after the halfway point for some incredibly stylish combos as the other two Docs take center stage and show their combo potential when on point, as well as some bonus footage starring Rocket Raccoon.

Ed Boon Shares Image of Mortal Kombat X Motion Capture Session Possibly Related to Kenshi

I think it’s safe to say that NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon has surpassed Yoshinori Ono of Capcom as the most active development teaser in the fighting game genre. Unlike Ono, however, Boon’s hints usually lead to something.

His most recent came yesterday afternoon, when he tweeted out a picture taken during a Mortal Kombat X motion capture session. While there isn’t much to see here for those unfamiliar with the franchise, fans will instantly recognize the pose being struck by the actor on the left as very Kenshi-esque in appearance.

A sightless swordsman originally introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Kenshi’s prime method of combat (apart from his weapon, of course) is his masterful use of telekinetic abilities.

You’ll find the image in question, which apparently depicts the fighters mid-fatality, below.

So, what do you think? Could this be Kenshi? Let us know in the comments.

Learn to Confirm a Variety of Margaret’s Grounded Attacks in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax with Urichinan’s Situational Combo Guide

While the Japanese community has been great about putting out combo guides for the various characters of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, the language barrier an often be a little too much to overcome for folks new to the game. Fortunately, it appears as if English-speaking players have taken up the reins and decided to put together guides of their own.

Case in point, Urichinan, who recently released a situational combo demonstration for Margaret. Due to her unconventional attacks, the newcomer is capable of confirming off a variety of errant hits, and the video below shows how to make the most of them.

In their guide, Urichinan covers combos that begin with a counter-hit, crouching attacks, skill boosted specials, One More Cancels, and more. This video is confined, however, to grounded attacks, and does not touch on Margaret’s Hassou Tobi skill.

Archie Utama Explores Ibuki Setups with Easy Answers to Delayed Wakeup in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Archie Utama has been putting out Ibuki tech videos since the release of Ultra Street Fighter IV back in June. Most recently, he examined the practical uses of Raida’s extra juggle point, which was added in the update.

Today, he’s got a collection of Ibuki setups with slight variants depending on whether or not the defender decides to delay their wakeup. Many of these setups require incredibly tight timing, like delaying 3 frames before jumping, as an example, but that’s understandable since some of them are unblockables against certain hurtboxes.

Archie does offer some setups that are a bit easier to pull off, though, like the standard Ibuki safe jump off Neck Breaker–whiff back+MP before performing an angled j.HP–which works against 4-frame reversals. If the Ibuki player sees the delayed wakeup indicator during their back+MP, they can proceed as usual, but instead tossing a kunai in place of the j.HP.

And that’s the case for all of these examples. While many high-level Ibuki players have known about this approach to her okizeme game for a while, the information has never been compiled quite so well as it is here, nor has it been shown to work with so many setups.

Boost|Jan Faces CTRL|RayRay, CTRL|Unknown, and CTRL|Flux in The Fall Classic 2014’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Finals

While a good number of strong Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players from the east coast made their way to The Fall Classic 2014, at the end of the day it came down to one competitor’s struggle against another team. Evo 2014 top eight finisher Jan (now of Boost Gaming) found himself sent to the losers bracket by Control Gaming’s Flux, and as a result, he had to fight his way through two other CTRL players, RayRay and Unknown, just to get a chance to face Flux again and hopefully stop his quest for his third tournament win in a row.

We’ve posted archive footage of these matches, courtesy of Team Spooky, below. Be sure to check out the rest of the Marvel archives on their channel.

For the results of this and other tournaments at The Fall Classic 2014, head on over to our coverage hub.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Heading to Europe on November 21

p4u2-cover-japan-large-622-crop

While it’s no secret that Persona 4 Arena had some issues in traveling to Europe a few years back, the sequel will not be as hampered as its predecessor.

Sega has announced that the popular Arc System Works fighter will be making its way to the continent on November 21. Though it’s a full two months since the title arrived in North America, this span of time is a far cry from the near-year wait European fans had to endure with the first installment.

Apart from brand new gameplay mechanics, like the Shadow-type versions available to almost every character, Ultimax features a handful of brand new fighters from Persona titles of the past.

If you plan on picking this title up, keep in mind that Rice-Digital is offering a special Fan Edition through their online shop, which includes an exclusive t-shirt.
