“Kill la Kill the Game: IF” coming to PlayStation 4 and PC next year, will be playable at Evo 2018

As some of you may know, Arc System Works recently announced a new game based on Studio Trigger’s Kill la Kill. The game, dubbed Kill la Kill the Game: IF, had a panel at Anime Expo 2018 where Arc System Works and developers APlus Games dropped some info and a new trailer.

For those wondering about platforms, the trailer reveals that Kill la Kill the Game: IF is currently being developed for PlayStation 4 and PC. The game itself is set to be released on both platforms sometime next year.

The trailer also shows off our first glimpse of how the game plays, showing some hints of mechanics that seem inspired by ArcSys’s other games.

In addition to this, Arc System Works also confirmed at the event that the game will be at Evo 2018. This will be the first time that the game will be playable by the general public.

As mentioned above: Kill la Kill the Game: IF will find its way on to PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2019.

FGC Philosophy talks about defeating decision fatigue in fighting games

Decision fatigue is defined as “the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision-making.” It is a very real phenomenon in humanity, and competitive gamers know this feeling — and its tendency to creep up after any tournament or long training session — all too well.

Even though a certain amount of fatigue is unavoidable in the mind during a match, there are steps and lifestyle choices you can make to ease its effects. The mind is a “muscle” capable of being trained, and The Philocypher‘s video is here to discuss what you can do to make it as strong as possible to avoid decision fatigue.

Rage Esports Street Fighter V All-Star League Day 7 results: Team Fujimura wins nine straight to take the lead

The Rage Esports Street Fighter V All-Star League is officially underway, featuring 24 of Japan’s best players in 3v3 team matches. Six team captains were chosen based from the highest-ranking Japanese players on the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour, including Hx.Twitch.CYG BST|Daigo, Echo Fox|Tokido, Fujimura, AW|Nemo, Moke, and Itazan. Captains drafted their teams for the league last week; match play began June 5 and will run until July 28, the weekend before Evo 2018.

The league follows a double round-robin format; each team will play the others twice in a first-to-three set match. During each set the teams select their order and play three matches. The team with two victories will win the set, but each win and loss also counts towards the team’s total round robin score. The three teams with the best records at the end of the both round robins will play each other in the finals on July 28.

The event streams live at 6:00 AM ET/3:00 AM PT/7:00 PM JST at OpenREC.tv. The Last Blade is one of the games Twitch is giving away for free to Prime members this month

Twitch is having a special promotion this month where they’re giving away 20 free games to Prime subscribers. One of these game happens to be one of SNK’s classic fighting games from the ’90s — The Last Blade.

Released in 1997, the Last Blade is SNK’s second take on a samurai fighting game (after the Samurai Shodown franchise), set in a different time period and featuring a more combo-oriented system. The series — which spans two games — is notable for being the only SNK fighting series that’s yet to have a playable representative in The King of Fighters (though Kaede did appear as a special striker in KoF 2000).

As for the Twitch promotion, it sees them giving away more than 20 free games (including the Last Blade) from July 2 to July 17 as part of their Prime Day celebration. The games themselves will be available at select dates with The Last Blade being available from July 2 to August 2. Once players avail of the games, they will be theirs to keep forever.

Hot on the heels of Mayor Cody joining the roster of Street Fighter V, The Game Basement Productions present an indie passion project sure to win the hearts of fans of the classic Final Fight franchise. The Broken Gear is a half-hour Final Fight fan film that sets up the original battle against Mad Gear in Metro City, featuring all three main fighters: Cody, Guy, and Mayor Hagger, of course. You’ll see plenty of knife-slashing and pipe-swinging action, along with nods to classic enemies — and even a mention of some mysterious street meat.

Watch high-level SoulCalibur VI gameplay from CEO: Team Kenny Omega vs. Team Jebailey

Among the many spectacular matches at CEO 2018, a special SoulCalibur VI exhibition took place.

Professional wrestler Kenny Omega takes to the stage to introduce his team, following a 5 vs. 5, winner-stays-on competition. The two team captains start off, with Kenny Omega using Kilik and Jebailey going for Geralt. The two show off what experience they have, with Jebailey emerging victorious, but losing rather quickly to UYU|BeautifulDude‘s Grøh, who won a recent ESL tournament at E3. The matches heat up considerably as more knowledgeable and practiced players enter the fray.

We can honestly say, this is probably the most skilled SouCalibur VI gameplay to date, so it’s really worth watching. Particularly noteworthy are: OmegaXCN, who pulls off more complicated pressure with Taki’s Possession stance; IceColdEdge’s Siegfried, who rings out Ivy with a huge Soul Charge combo at 34:00; and LinkKRC, who figured out really nice Ivy combos and a pretty effective horizontal move to keep opponents in check.

There were actually some more warm-up matches before the exhibition that didn’t make it into the YouTube clip above. It’s really worth watching, even just to see great matches between OmegaXCN’s Taki and his opponent, Siegfried; OmegaXCN seemed even more on fire here.

UK Qualifier for Red Bull Kumite 2018 taking place in London on July 15, registration now open

The Kumite comes to London for a high-stakes qualifier!

The next qualifier event for the upcoming Red Bull Kumite 2018 will be hitting the UK — it will be held in London, England at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere on July 15th! Details from the press release:

The most accomplished Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition players in the nation are invited to battle it out at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere, the largest public esports studio in the UK on July 15th in a Red Bull Kumite pre-qualifier. The invitational Street Fighter V tournament, which last year saw 1.4M viewers on Twitch and 700k on Facebook Live, is giving the winners of the London qualifier an opportunity to represent the nation at the Red Bull Kumite Last Chance Qualifier in Paris on November 10th, the night before the main event.

As well as securing themselves a seeded position at the Last Chance Qualifier, the victors from the event at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere will also win the trip to Paris and a luxury Noblechairs EPIC gaming chair. The Last Chance Qualifier will see entrants pitted against 256 of the best Street Fighter players from around the World to battle it out for a top spot in the grand final against the pros, taking place in Paris on November 11th. Professional players Packz, Shakz, and Hurricane are already confirmed to compete, with further names to be announced over the coming weeks.

Red Bull Kumite returns for its fourth edition following three exhilarating tournaments which have secured the Street Fighter V competition’s position among the most prestigious events in the fighting game calendar. Kumite is unique within the competitive fighting game scene, with the grand final taking part in a cage in Paris, and with a focus on player rivalries and backstories, Kumite offers spectators a riveting and emotionally charged experience.

Eight countries, including the UK, are hosting their own Kumite pre-qualifiers for the first time to determine the strongest fighting game players in the country to take part in the Last Chance Qualifier. The two finest players will then go on to compete in the iconic cage at the main event in Paris.

Pocket Rumble now available for the Nintendo Switch

Good news! We previously reported that Pocket Rumble, the 2D SNK-inspired fighter by Cardboard Robot Games and Chucklefish, was slated for release “by the end of July 2018” for Nintendo Switch. Whatever stars needed to align to change that plan happen must have done so, because “end of July” has morphed into “now”, as you can see on the Nintendo eShop.

Now that the game is out on the eShop, the original plan of focusing on new content for Pocket Rumble‘s Steam version is well underway.

In addition to having Dead or Alive 6 stations available for fans to try the upcoming sequel, Team NINJA is holding a side tournament at Evo 2018 for the current iteration; you can sign up to compete in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round right now in the Dead or Alive Evo Showdown 2018!
