Wii Fit Trainer’s “Sashimi Wiggle” lets her pull off epic dashes in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

In their latest tutorial video, the Beefy Smash Doods discuss what is perhaps the most interesting tech found in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: an ability possessed solely by Wii Fit Trainer that has been named Sashimi Wiggling. This technique exploits Wii Fit Trainer’s unique crawl mechanic by combining it with the momentum gained during a turnaround following a run. By going into a crawl immediately after a turnaround, Trainer is able to execute dashes of great proportions and great speeds that are impossible to achieve by any other means.

Using the Sashimi Wiggle, these dashes can also be canceled at certain lengths and attacks can even be executed mid-dash, but as C5 of Beefy Smash Doods explains, this technique requires very meticulous timing and can only be executed consistently when dashing right and turning left.

Whether you are able to comprehend how it’s done or not, to see a character do such an incredible dash in an Super Smash Bros. game is quite baffling. Who knows if this tech will carry over into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but if it does, Wii Fit Trainer players can use this tutorial to slide right by the competition.

Arkham Digital Fighting Tournament IX results

This past weekend, the 2018 Tekken World Tour rolled through Barcelona, Spain for the Arkham Digital Fighting Tournament IX. Though this was a European Challenger Event for the TWT — with the customary $1,000 pot bonus for Tekken 7 —  Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and The King of Fighters XIV were also played.

Capcom unveils special miniature arcade cabinet trophy for Super Street Fighter II Turbo at CEO 2018

Traditionally, tournament winners at Community Effort Orlando receive a championship belt, however, for this year’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo tournament, they’ll be getting something else. Capcom has just unveiled their special trophy for the winner of Super Turbo at CEO 2018.

The trophy, as you can see in the tweet below, is a blue and gold recreation of the classic, American-style, stand-up cabinet for Super Street Fighter II Turbo. This includes a backlit “screen”  with the words “Grand Master Challenge” (“Grand Master Challenge” being the subtitle for the Japanese version of the game, and also the name of the special tournament event CEO is holding for this game).

Of course, the fact that Capcom has a special trophy for the game shouldn’t be surprising — considering that Super Street Fighter II Turbo at CEO 2018 is part of the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection Tournament Series. That said, this does beg the question of whether or not the two other games on the series, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike will also have their own special trophies…

2GG brings us epic highlights from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at the Hyrule Saga

Ties, T-posing and taunting abound in this highlight footage of the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournaments from the recently-passed 2GG Hyrule Saga. Set in Long Beach, California, The Legend of Zelda-themed major saw Smash 4 heavyweights such as MKLeo, Elegant, Ally, and Mr. R match blades to determine who was the most fearsome warrior in the kingdom of the Triforce.

Though many shenanigans did transpire, all players appeared to have brought their A-game, which is to be expected of an event hosted by 2GG. Registration for Atlanta’s “Climax of Night” Soft Circle French Bread tournament now open, early bird prices last until 7/29/18

Fighting game developer Soft Circle French Bread (formerly just French Bread) is responsible for Melty Blood, Under Night In-Birth, and Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. The company’s design philosophy and style have been hugely influential to the anime fighting game sub-genre as a whole. Despite niche sales, their partnership with publisher and developer Arc System Works has led to bigger projects that have grown the communities around their games exponentially.

What does all this mean? It means that Soft Circle French Bread’s following is big enough to support its own tournament major. Enter: Climax of Night.

Announced at Combo Breaker 2018, Climax of Night is America’s first dedicated Soft Circle French Bread tournament, located in Atlanta, GA. And right now, sign-ups are officially open — if you, too, have been swayed by any of their recent entries (or by BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, which features Under Night characters), you should register for the tournament here!

Blade Strangers release date set for August 28th, can be pre-ordered via Amazon

If you’ve been patiently waiting for Nicalis to reveal a release date for their new crossover fighter Blade Strangers, your time has come:

Featuring characters from Code of Princess, Shovel Knight, Gunvolt Azure Striker, Binding of Isaac, and more, Blade Strangers is the second fighting game entry from developer Studio Saizensen. The game can be preordered here from Amazon for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Curiously, Amazon has a release date of September 28th, but with Nicalis’s new announcement, this will likely be updated soon.

The ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Celebrity Showdown returns on June 29, featuring Shaq, Jimmy Rollins, Baron Davis, & Natalie Eva Marie

Four celebrities will fight it out for charity tomorrow at ELEAGUE.

Now that the four main Groups for the ELEAGUE 2018 Street Fighter V Invitational have completed their elimination rounds and seeded the Playoffs bracket, we get a different kind of fight coming our way this weekend as a respite — this Friday, it’s time for the Celebrity Showdown!

Turner and IMG’s second annual Celebrity Showdown will feature basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, World Series Champion Jimmy Rollins, 13-year NBA veteran Baron Davis, and former professional wrestler Natalie Eva Marie in a Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition charity tournament, televised on TBS. These competitors are fighting to raise money for the charities of their choice — with O’Neal supporting the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund, Rollins playing for The Jimmy Rollins Family Foundation, Davis on behalf of The Drew League, and Marie for A21.

During last year’s Showdown, Shaq pulled off a “controversial” upset win against Marie, with a little help from Tasty Steve. How will the rematch play out? Analysts Tasty Steve, Zhi Liang Chew, Sajam, and Rip will serve as game coaches for the celebrities, and Josh Gray will host.

The single-elimination tournament consists of two first-round matches and a winner’s match, for three matches total. The champion earns the majority of the prize money for their chosen charity — but all other participants receivie a portion for their charities, too.

Not all stages from previous games will appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch is bringing back all of the characters from previous entries in the franchise. And with this announcement, some have wondered if all of the stages from those previous entries would be getting the same treatment as well.

But unlike the characters, not all stages from past Super Smash Bros. games will be returning in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This much was confirmed in a recent Famitsu interview with Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff. So while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does have about 75 known stages, these won’t cover every stage in the franchise, ever.

In addition to this, they did confirm that the stages coming from Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be given a graphical upgrade — no surprise there, really. Additionally, there will be no differences in the stages, whether or not they’re played in docked or portable mode.

Other details discussed in the interview include the possibility of a beta; while they state that Nintendo doesn’t have finalized plans yet, they do hope to announce something related to it later this year.

Hidden changes in version 3.051? Akuma has a new weakness to watch for after the Street Fighter V update

Take note, those who walk the Demon’s Path.

Even though Capcom provided patch notes for the version 3.051 update that arrived on Monday — bringing us Cody, alongside a slew of other content — it appears they once again have neglected to mention a change that is, in actuality, quite significant to Akuma players. It seems the frame data on his powerful standing medium kick has been altered, allowing for punishes when blocked that weren’t possible before.

FChamp shared some examples on Twitter of how deadly the change of -4 frames on block — from the prior -2 — can be…

 

This is hardly the limit of the punish opportunities depending on the opponent, so Akuma mains will want to be more cautious how they apply their pressure with that knee.

Absolver will be free to play for PlayStation Plus users in July

A recent entry to the European Playstation Blog announces that Absolver will be one of the free games available to Playstation Plus users during the month of July. Following its release in late August of last year, the action RPG/fighting game hybrid received mixed reviews, but was generally praised for its ambitious style of martial-arts based skill building and PVP battle mechanics.
