Team NINJA talks new (and guest) characters for Dead Or Alive 6 in GNN interview

With Dead Or Alive 6 coming next year, more than a few fans are wondering what the game’s roster will be like. Specifically, people are wondering whether newcomers and guest characters will make it into this installment.

An interview with Taiwanese site GNN, Dead Or Alive 6 producer and director Yohei Shimbori at the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo give a bit more clarity towards both. While the interview covers a lot of the same material that’s already been announced, they do talk about both newcomers and guest characters.

On the former, Shimbori states that they do plan to reveal 1 new male and 1 new female character later on. Shimbori didn’t state whether or not these were the only newcomers coming into Dead Or Alive 6, so it’s possible that there may be more. That said, this does fit the pattern from the previous numbered Dead Or Alive installment.”As for when they would be revealed, Shimbori didn’t give out any specifics.

As for guest characters, while they have become something of a series staple as of late (Dead Or Alive 4 had a Spartan from Halo, while Dead Or Alive 5 added characters from Virtua Fighter, King of Fighters, and Dynasty Warriors), Shimbori states that, though they do want guest characters, they want to “focus first on depicting DOA6‘s worldview” by starting with a “careful portrayal of the existing characters” at launch.

Dead Or Alive 6 is set to arrive on PlayStation 4, PC, and XBox One in 2019. Prior to that, it’s set to make a playable appearance at Evo 2018.

ComboCon organizer HD Mex talks about how to grow a community with FGC Philosophy

“One of the biggest outlets for people in the veteran community is video gaming.”

The story of ComboCon is a fascinating one — it’s a FGC event that found a way to combine veteran charity and video games into a surprisingly large fighting game tournament. And it debuted in a place where there wasn’t much of an FGC at all: St. Johns, Michigan.

Boasting over 300 entrants, hdmexiqtioner knows what it’s like to create a scene from nothing — and the sudden challenges a surprise success can bring. Check out the interview above on the latest “FGC Philosophy” episode to hear about ComboCon’s roots and how you can grow your own scene.

Decode all of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s reference colors with this Google Document from reddit

Since the release of Persona 4 Arena, Arc System Works has maintained a fun tradition of including various alternate colors in their various fighting games that serve as references to other properties. These can range from homages to characters from the series that started it all, Guilty Gear, to BlazBlue characters, various members of the Persona franchise, and even various other properties such as Bleach and My Hero Academiato Western animation like RWBY. Even Dragon Ball FighterZ has gotten in on the reference action, with each Z Warrior’s 2nd color serving as a shout-out to a previous outfit they wore, or another character from the franchise.

With BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle combining characters from four different franchises, it’s no surprise that it boasts a myriad of references from a large variety of material, with each character having a whopping six reference palettes each, located on Colors 8-13.

For all non-Persona characters, Color 8 serves as a reference to various characters from ASW’s flagship fighting franchise, Guilty Gear, while the Persona fighters gain new colors referencing various characters from their RPG series. Color 9 is a reference to the BlazBlue cast, while Color 9 is a universal homage to Persona. Colors 10 and 11 are brand-new tributes to the characters of Under Night In-Birth and RWBY, ensuring all four core franchises are recognized.

Color 13 is perhaps the most interesting, as they are various unrelated references to a variety of different properties, from Disney films, to Cartoon Network shows like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, to even non-fighting games like Overwatch. Carmine and Gordeau even pay respects to fellow fighting game characters Morrigan Aensland (from Darkstalkers) and the X-Men’s Gambit. However, there are two interesting patterns, with the members of the Investigation Team receiving references to their successors, Persona 5’s Phantom Thieves, while P3’s Aegis gains an Elizabeth color — which makes her Persona resemble Igor, the master of the Velvet Room. Meanwhile, Team RWBY’s Weiss and Blake receive colors of their respective inspirations, Snow White and Belle, while Ruby and Yang don the color schemes of their mothers, Summer Rose and Raven Branwen.

Since the game’s release the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle subreddit has created a Google Document to list each and every one of these special colors by character, with image links for easy viewing.

Which reference colors are your favorite? Did you think there were any missed opportunities with them? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Mikado Arcade’s Street Fighter Carnival 11 continues with Fighting Layer, BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Street Fighter Carnival 11 is Mikado Arcade’s currently-ongoing, month-long, multi-game tournament series for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. This series is well under way, so start from the beginning if you want to catch up!

Typically, Mikado Arcade tries to keep it as old-school as possible, but newer title will occasionally find their way into SFC’s frame. Such is the case with the first of today’s tournaments, Arc System Works’ BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

Our next VOD is for their Fighting Layer tournament. ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer drops in about a week and ARIKA, if you’re listening, there’s still time to add Capriccio and Exodus. You can do it.

Fighting Layer is a fantastic game but, as you can see from the side-switch grabs and combo-escape mechanic, it is certainly its own beast. For the curious, you can read more about Fighting Layer‘s gameplay over on the SRK Wiki.

You can follow the action of SFC11 by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

First screenshots for Super Baby Vegeta released for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

A well-defined look and a cheeky message for the fans.

Shortly after being announced through V-Jump Magazine, Bandai Namco Entertainment released a batch of screenshots for Super Baby Vegeta who will be coming to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in the Extra Pack 3 DLC. Bandai Namco Entertainment promises Super Baby Vegeta — and much more content — to be released this summer.

Super Baby Vegeta is looking as intimidating as ever with his perfectly styled hair and cunning grin. Which additional characters do you think will come along for the ride with the GT super villain? Now that Dragon Ball GT seems to have been mostly covered except for maybe General Rilldo, there is plenty of room for other well known and obscure characters to join in on the Time Patrol.

With the Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission anime releasing soon, it would be neat to see the new villain or some of the what-if characters make their way outside of Japan. Whatever the new content is, according to Bandai Namco, it’ll pack a wallop. See for yourself below in their most recent related tweet.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition server maintenance scheduled in preparation for Cody’s early arrival on June 25

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s new Mayor of Metro City, Cody, is arriving on June 25 — the Monday this time, rather than the usual Tuesday we typically see updates arriving on. With this, of course, comes the expected server downtime as Capcom adds him — and other material — to the game.

For those wondering when Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s multiplayer servers will go down to apply the mayoral update, Capcom has released the schedule on via the official SFV Server account:

As stated above, the game’s online servers will be down from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific on June 25. During this time, players wont able to play online, or earn any sort of Fight Money. Offline play is, of course, unaffected (aside from the aforementioned inability to earn that Fight Money).

Aside from Cody, the upcoming Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition update brings with it a few other changes. This includes a revamped Survival Mode, as well as an unpaid lootbox system that allows players to gain exclusive cosmetic content.

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] to get Evo 2018 side event stream time on August 4th

A side effect of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle‘s release is renewed interest in French Bread’s Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]. Between the new visibility of UNIST characters and the dedication of its scene, the game is gaining more momentum and players — evidenced by, if nothing else, this announcement from AnimEVO tournament organizer DarylBunao:

Looks like there will be some full-screen footsies on the Evo side event stream! This isn’t much of a surprise for the anime fighter with the — at the time of this writing — 2nd most entrants at AnimEVO (only behind the universally-popular Windjammers). Or the anime fighter that’s received consistent vocal support from the likes of James Chen.

It’s only up from here, you wonderful, weirdly-named game, you.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle roundup: DLC character tech — Deadly Yang, Carmine, Aegis, and Hakumen combos

As seven new characters just arrived in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, players are once again busy developing new tech as fervently as Elon Musk. Get ready to see new one-touch-death combos, powerful set ups, and pressure that won’t let the opponent get out easily. We’re taking a closer look at Yang, Carmine, Aegis, and Hakumen.

Obviously, comboing your opponent into the Astral Heat is a worthy goal to strive for, so if you need to a few pointers, check out the compilation above for Aegis, Vatista, Carmine, Naoto, Hakumen, Jubei, and Yang footage.

Kalibur optimized the Aegist Astral Heat combo by starting from even less bars.

Here’s a fairly straightforward corner combo with Aegis that will keep the opponent on their toes with a cannon attack once they get up.

Kalibur is also finding out some useful Aegis option selects; visit his Twitter for more Aegis and Es tech.

Looks like Jin isn’t the only one with really high solo damage. Keep in mind though that Carmine spends some health on certain attacks.

Here’s a pretty terrifying set up with Carmine that seems to cover defensive options quite well.

This deadly combo from Hakumen and Tager should finish off most characters in the game.

Uri put together this aesthetically pleasing Yang and Hakumen combo.

At last, Hakumen can keep those pesky command throws off of his sanctimonious person.

Are you having flashbacks to other BlazBlue games yet? Hakumen shows he doesn’t need a partner as he kills his foes while in Resonance Blaze.

Here’s a straightforward combo that sets up a safe jump for Yang in the corner.

If you’re more of a lover than a fighter, also check out these unique interactions between BBTAG DLC characters.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Razer Panthera arcade stick spotted at E3 2018, labeled “coming soon”

Could this upcoming new peripheral possibly signal continued support for the latest entry in the Vs. Series?

Things have unfortunately been extremely quiet on the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite front. The final three announced DLC characters — Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and Venom — arrived last December, with the game receiving its last major update in late January. There was a recent update made to the game, but it was predicted to have simply removed anti-piracy software and nothing more has come of it. Both companies remain completely silent on any sort of concrete future for the title, despite mostly-reputable leaker Dasvergeben predicting a Season 2 DLC character lineup of Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Gill, Asura, Lady, and Vergil that still has yet to materialize. However, it appears that Razer is set to release a brand-new arcade stick based off of the crossover title, as a Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite-branded Razer Panthera was spotted on the E3 2018 show floor at the Capcom booth, with stick aficionado Mark “MarkMan” Julio claiming the art direction for it.

Sporting the latest game’s logo, as well as some gorgeously re-imagined wrap-around artwork based off an old promotional piece from 1999’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (but featuring Infinite’s roster) the item was interestingly labeled as “coming soon,” meaning that we’ll hopefully be able to get our hands on this stylish gaming accessory in the near future.

Though it may not be the exact news players and fans want to hear when it comes to MAHVEL, this is hopefully a positive sign that the project hasn’t been outright abandoned, and that we could still see further support for Infinite down the line. You can view tweets and photos of the new Razer Panthera model below.

There is no word on when this item will release or how much it will cost, but we’ll keep you updated right here on Shoryuken if there are any concrete announcements.
