Unboxing the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Collector’s Edition

Shoryuken offers a hands-on look at what’s in the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Collector’s Edition package.

The BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Collector’s Edition has quite a few goodies in it, but is it worth your money? I decided to make an unboxing video to show you the contents up close to see for yourself!

A big box that showcases the colors of each franchise houses the Collector Edition items. Inside, the steel case is first. I’m a big fan of it; it has special art from the Japanese edition of the game. The colors on it are vivid and powerful, showcasing each protagonist: Ragna, Yu, Hyde, and Ruby. Obviously, it feels very solid; it’s a great way to house the disc.

You still get a regular retail box of the game with that fancy “Evo 2018 main lineup” sticker. It’s nice to have a regular box, though there’s no instruction booklet, so it feels a little redundant; and that feeling is furthered because the standard edition of the game comes with a mini soundtrack CD (seven tracks). However, the Collector’s Edition comes with a 15-track disc that has all of those tracks from the mini CD, and more. We can hear each version of Crossing Fate (just in case you haven’t heard enough of it yet), even the short version used in the opening. It’s good that the disc has the mix track of each RWBY character as that equals to multiple tracks from the show.

The acrylic “figures” are flat representations of each protagonist. To be honest, these are surprisingly nice. They stand securely on their flat stands. I get the feeling that multiple figures were out of Arc System Works’ budget (or maybe they could have you choose one, but more options still equal to higher operating costs). It’s nice to have each franchise represented.

Finally, the artbook is a bit of a letdown; not particularly because it’s relatively short (52 pages), but it’s mostly filled with standard “stock” character-select art of the base roster. It does have very cool sketches of the RWBY characters, showing how their attacks and poses were animated. I also love the section at the end that shows sketches of partner introductions.

All in all, it’s a good Collector’s Edition, even though CDs are a bit old-school now. I would maybe like to get a poster instead of the mini-CD that comes in the regular game box.

Thanks to Arc System Works for providing the Collector’s Edition to Shoryuken; you can get your own at the Arc System Works online shop. Check out our BBTAG video review as well!

Arcade Shock launching new Colors Customization arcade stick ordering service on June 25

Get a fight stick exactly the way you want it, shipped already customized and ready for play!

Arcade Shock — perennial FGC controller and parts supplier — recently announced their plans to kick off a new ordering system dubbed “Colors Customization” in which you can order a fight stick already personalized with your choices of parts and graphics, and it will be assembled and delivered ready to use. They are nearly ready to start the system up — and it will launch at 11:00 AM PT on June 25!

Customers will be able to use the online system to build a stick on-the-fly, integrating parts, internal PCB upgrade (EZ mod kit) if desired, and artwork — all automated online 24/7, allowing you to put together and preview a custom stick at your leisure, anywhere, anytime. With the new software, you’ll be able to see what you’ll get before you check out. The prices will include labor — and will be very reasonable for complete customization services.

Or: aren’t ready to buy a fully customized arcade stick, but just want parts? With this sytem, you can preview how certain pushbuttons or balltop colors look on a controller, so there’s no guess work if you want to change things up on your own stick. The software can also act as a guide though for those who just want parts. (Customers will have to exit the system and order the parts separately, however, as the customizer software is still geared towards building a complete fight stick.)

Head over to Arcade Shock to try it for yourself when it goes live on Monday!

The SRK Rollback: Best of June 15-21, 2018

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from June 15 to June 21, 2018!

Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:

Frame 1:

Shoryuken at E3 2018: Interview with SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo

Our Associate Editor sat down with the SoulCalibur VI head hanchō at E3 2018 to talk about what to expect from the latest iteration of the weapons-based fighter.

Frame 3:
Core-A-Gaming-Nerfs-&-BuffsCore-A-Gaming looks at how UYU’s NL and Oil King are dealing with buffs and nerfs in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

A hot topic in our age of constant patching, here’s how two pros look at Capcom’s insistence to meddle with their mains.

Frame 4:
sfv menat fighting chance
Survival Mode improvements are coming to Street Fighter V, alongside a new feature: Menat’s “Fighting Chance”

Survival Mode was long, long overdue for some changes (pretty much any changes), and while Fighting Chance is basically a lootbox system, it seems harmless enough — maybe even a little amusing.

Frame 5:
sfv evo 2018 t-shirt art crop 750x400
A new Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition tribute t-shirt is available to Evo 2018 attendees on smash.gg

This fantastic tribute art speaks for itself. I want this as a poster, not a t-shirt!

Frame 1:
POWERRANGERS
Street Fighter pros challenged to exhibition match in Power Rangers: Legacy Wars at Mobile Masters tournament

I hate that the Power Rangers mobile fighter is closer to Yomi (the card game) than Fantasy Strike (the fighting game based on Yomi) is. Also I really just want to see how Justin Wong does.

Shoryuken at E3 2018: Giving the SCUF Vantage PlayStation 4 controller a fighting chance

Truth be told, I wasn’t on-board with this thing until reading Austyn’s hands-on experience. If you’re on the fence, check it out.

Legendary Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S player Koushun will be competing in Canada Cup 2018’s tournament

With the way fighting games have been going lately, it wouldn’t surprise me at this point if all the attention Sailor Moon S has been getting led to a new ArcSys fighter.

Frame 5:

It’s almost time, my dudes. June 28th.

ARIKA is teasing Pullum Purna for Fighting EX Layer

It’s no secret that ARIKA would love to expand the cast of Fighting EX Layer with more classic Street Fighter EX characters via DLC. Now, it seems like they’re teasing one of those characters (much like Vulcano Rosso was dropped into the very end of this video).

In a recent tweet regarding the company’s presence at Community Effort Orlando 2018, ARIKA Vice President Ichiro Mihara included an image that seems to be teasing Pullum Purna as an upcoming character for the game. The image, which you can see below, has Pullum seemingly rendered in-engine, while covered up with the text from said tweet.

FEXL_Pullum_CEO_tease

First appearing in the original Street Fighter EX, Pullum Purna is a Middle Eastern heiress who’s traveling the world with her bodyguard, Darun Mister (who is already in the game) in search of her father. She was notable for a moveset inspired by Arabian dance — as well as being the only character who could double jump.

Aside from Pullum, ARIKA has also mentioned wanting to add Area, Sharon, and Vulcano Rosso as DLC as well. Now considering that Pullum is seemingly shown in-engine in the image above, should we expect an announcement soon to confirm this, possibly at CEO 2018?

Fighting EX Layer launches on PlayStation 4 on June 28.

Learn the nuance behind King’s Double Heel Hold in Tekken 7

King is Tekken 7‘s primary grappler, and as such, it makes sense that he possess the game’s only multi-part air throw. “Double Heel Hold”  has more than a few interesting mechanics and setups involved with it, and allows King to play a more diverse and difficult-to-predict game once he converts off juggles.

It also allows King to always threaten big damage from his resets even when his back is against the wall — a particularly devastating feature on stages with breakable walls.

Dragon Smash takes a closer look at the new game mechanics in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

A new Super Smash Bros. game with the entire series’ known roster is a reason for any Smash fan to rejoice, but rather than the size of the character selection, competitive Smashers are likely to be more concerned with the new mechanics that will effect the way the beloved platform brawler will now be played at the higher levels.

YouTube channel Dragon Smash has done a pretty sweet job at breaking down the new mechanics from various bits of what footage we have of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate so far. Though the changes don’t seem to be anything too drastic, there is just enough nuance in the changes shown to make one interested — and excited — for the new strategies that will surely come with this new game.

Mui Mui unleashes the dragon in this combo video for The King of Fighters XIV

Mui Mui may seem like the type of kawaii fighting character that you pick up just for kicks, but a fighter with a giant dragon in their super attack animation is probably someone you shouldn’t take too lightly. Originally appearing in one of SNK’s pachislot games called Dragon Gal, Mui Mui’s hard-hitting Dragon-Style kung-fu has made her a popular newcomer in The King of Fighters XIV.

Persona Entertainment’s latest combo video demonstrates a few stylish ways that you can put Mui Mui’s superhuman Dragon abilities to stylish use. Check it out below — and be on the lookout for more news of Mui Mui’s upcoming appearance in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

Lock down opponents after landing Zeku’s Bushin Tengen in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Zeku’s Bushin Tengen takes a little bit of work to setup. This untechable throw can be ducked and its slow startup time makes it vulnerable — but if you’ve properly conditioned your opponent to sit still for the other Bushin options, you can turn one successful Bushin grab into a world of okizeme mix-ups and damage.

Once you score the knockdown, you can choose to meaty button-happy players with Koku, set up frame traps versus more passive players with Teki, or simply take advantage of the +2 frame advantage a dash yields after a successful grab. The choice is yours!
