The fever dream that has been the development and advertisement for ARIKA’s Fighting EX Layer is about to reach its conclusion — June 28th, the recently-revealed release date, is just around the corner.
ARIKA put out a PV to hype up the indie project that originated as the most elaborate April Fool’s Joke pulled on the FGC. It shows off the cast, various game modes, DLC color sets (Hi, Allen Hibiki!), and more.
It’s not long now, friends. Are you ready for June 28th?

This past weekend, Millennial Eports hosted a $10,000 Dragon Ball FighterZ tournament with some of the best players in the world. With this being the final event before this weekend’s Summit of Power, as well as the first tournament where Zamasu (Fused) and Vegito (SSGSS) were legal — and ten metric tons of cash at stake in the FGC Arena, the battles would certainly prove interesting.

Those who have picked up the Capcom Pro Tour 2018 Premier Pass have gained access to a number of goodies already — including new costumes for Sakura and Akuma — but the 2018 CPT stage, the Ring of Power, has only been teased to be available at some future date. We now have that date: the Ring of Power is promised to arrive alongside the update that brings us Cody on June 26.

As BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is properly out in the wild now, players are busy figuring the newly-released characters: Blake, Orie, Kanji, and Platinum. We’re going to focus on the first two in this post. Blake certainly is getting lots of attention and lots of combos posted; after all, she is an entirely new character. Orie, on the other hand, comes from Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st], but she’s looking really strong, with extremely good mix-up options and fast screen coverage.
Here’s a video of pretty optimal Blake combos. Her solo attack strings can certainly get pretty long when you’re jumping. There’s also a combo off an overhead and a midscreen cross-up setup with an assist. Toward the end, there’s an example of a Reversal Action punish and a combo into Astral Heat.

The first challenge for Ryu’s Crossover Costume — the valiant knight Arthur from the Ghosts n’ Goblins series — has arrived in Street Fighter V‘s Extra Battle mode, and he’s brought along a new monstrosity for us to slay as well. Triggered Necalli, a superpowered CPU boss version of the soul-devouring ancient, is available to challenge in Extra Battle until June 10th.
He’s a handful, as these Extra Battle bosses often are. Expect a hard fight if you want the exclusive title reward.
Once you take on Arthur-Ryu, you might hear some familiar tunes in the background: that is indeed the first stage BGM from Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, and you can unlock that as well in an additional Extra Battle challenge!
You’ve got some extra time on that one. As usual, it takes Fight Money to attempt any of the challenges in Extra Batttle: 2500 FM to unlock the pieces of the Crossover Costume, and 1000 FM to fight Triggered Necalli or unlock the classic BGM.

The studio behind Smash Summit is bringing you a new peak to climb, Summit of Power. Summit of Power is a Dragon Ball FighterZ invitational event of sixteen players: eight selected by invite, five by fan vote, and three via qualifier. These players will be competing over a base prize pool of $10,000, further boosted through sales of a compendium. Currently the total prize pool sits at nearly $25,000.

The main competition is a singles event that starts from a group stage proceeding into a full bracket. On top of the competition are a number of fun events, including a 3v3 tournament with each player controlling one character on the team, Mafia, a mystery game tournament, Jenga and more. Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour, an official multistage tournament running through 2018 and into 2019.
The battles begin at the CEO Gaming Fighting Game Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida, taking place on June 29 – July 1. Registration begins now, and ends on June 19th, so be sure to make plans accordingly for the first stop in the tournament!
Additional details surrounding the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour have yet to be disclosed, but the official tournament is a big move for the popular anime fighter. Bandai Namco promises more information will be revealed soon.

They certainly respect each other as wrestlers, but when it comes to their fighting game skills, it’s another story. So, of course, Capcom is going to capitalize on this rivalry and will grant a digital ring to the fighters at E3. The two have faced each other before at CEO 2016, where Kenny Omega beat Xavier Woods. This continued into 2017, where Woods had his revenge. Sitting at 1-1, this year is looking to be the reckoning.
