New Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 exhibitions resume as Tension Pulse returns

Despite a lack of updates or a new version of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, the community continues to support the game! One way to catch some high-level action is through Silva and zenzen’s exhibition series Tension Pulse. The series had a great run in 2018, and today marks its return, so make sure to not miss it.

Tonight, it’s a slightly different format than in the past. Fighters from the North American region will fight each other in a FT5 round-robin style. We have PepperySplash using Venom, TheArm fighting with Ramlethal, BxA|dotNova with Jack-O’, and BxA|Blaze with Raven. It will be interesting to see how each of those characters fares against one another.

BxA|Sway and RaphTx will man the commentator stations, keeping up the hype and explaining the action as it goes. The exhibition takes place tonight, at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT/6:00 PM PT on Silva_Hime’s Twitch channel.

Since this is still the same version of REV 2, a lot of the previous episodes are still relevant; check them out on Silva’s YouTube channel.

Victrix unleashes its new Fight Stick Pro FS arcade stick

Largely known for their headsets, Victrix is now releasing a full-fledged fight stick for its FGC competitors — with some impressive specs.

While most fighting game enthusiasts know Victrix for their Pro AF ANC headsets (as seen during the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour), the San Diego-based company is now unveiling their very first arcade stick: the Pro FS.

The Victrix Pro FS arcade stick comes installed with Sanwa’s Denshi buttons and JLF model joystick, with an easily accessible, spacious interior compartment for optimal maintenance and storage. These internal components are easily modified, and include fully customizable lighting and audio features, to boot.

Additionally, The Pro FS’s brushed metal surface is made of aircraft-grade aluminum, melded into a comfortable downward slope perfect for sitting on the knees during long sessions at a setup. Better yet, the FS’s joystick is fully detachable, lessening the stress of travel between venues and cramped flights. The stick likewise comes with a set of handles and a die-cast metal shoulder strap, making it one of the most easily transportable sticks on the current market.

You read more about our coverage of the in-development version of the stick at Evo 2018 in our article — and can now purchase the stick through Victrix’s website, along with the Pro AF headset, of course.

Kano confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11

The leader of the Black Dragon rises again!

At the end of January, WB Games Brazil held a Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event in the country. Though the playable build was the same one used at The Reveal event last month –featuring already-announced Kombatants Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Dark Raiden, Sonya Blade, Baraka, Skarlet, and Geras — there was some exclusive news. Ed Boon announced that the leader of the Black Dragon clan and Mortal Kombat original Kano would be once again joining in the bloody carnage.

This version of Kano looks much slimmer than his Mortal Kombat XL counterpart, while only sporting a tattoo on a single arm rather than both like before, implying this could be a younger version of the Australian mercenary — likely brought about by Kronika’s time-bending.

Additionally, Kano will be receiving a special, free, regional-exclusive, alternate costume, that will only be available (for the time being at least), to players in Brazil. This “Kangaceiro” outfit sees Kano don a version of the trademark hat and leather jacket worn by a group of Northeastern Brazilian “social bandits” in the late 19th and 20th centuries, who would steal from the rich in an effort to oppose the poverty that defined the times. A vest of bullets can also be seen adorning the straps holding in his iconic chest piece. This will join Skarlet’s Russian-exclusive “Kold War” skin, which sees the blood mage dressed in the attire of a KGB agent. The Official Mortal Kombat Twitter account has also released his official character render, describing Kano as, “Greed personified.” You can see both pieces of artwork below, as well as a video of Ed Boon announcing Kano at the event.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be released worldwide, on Tuesday, April 23rd, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, the Switch version has unfortunately been delayed in Europe, until Friday, May 10th.

Official Dragon Ball FighterZ Season 2 patch notes released by Bandai Namco Entertainment America

Take a look at all of the system mechanic changes as DBFZ powers up for Season 2!

Following the conclusion of this past weekend’s 2018/2019 Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals at Red Bull: Final Summoning, Bandai Namco Entertainment announced the beginning of Season 2 for the team-based title. In addition to the FighterZ Pass 2, which includes Jiren, Videl, the Dragon Ball Super incarnation of Broly, SSGSS Gogeta, and two more mystery warriors yet to be announced, a new balance patch was applied to the game to alter some of its fundamental system mechanics. Though there were no character-specific changes made within this update, many aspects of the current meta have been altered — such as notably improved defensive options (with longer backdashes and increased Guard Cancel invincibility), reduced blue life in an attempt to quicken the pace of matches, enhancements to Sparking Blast to increase its potency as a comeback mechanic, adjusted damage scaling on supers, tweaked Dragon Rushes, as well as reduced meter gain. Even Shenron’s “Make Me Immortal!” and “Revive My Allies!” wishes will now restore larger amounts of health, giving players ever more incentive to collect those Dragon Balls during the course of battle. You can view the full list of changes below.

HEALTH RECOVERY UPON TAKING DAMAGE:
Reduce the amount of recoverable health when damaged. (Excluding invincible moves)

KI GAUGE:
– Decrease the amount of Ki Gauge gained when receiving damage from Super Attacks and Meteor Attacks, and increase the amount of Ki Gauge gained when receiving damage from other attacks.
– For a short period of time after using the Ki Gauge, the overall amount of Ki Gauge gained is now reduced.

MID-AIR SMASH ATTACK:
– When the condition for a camera change is met, the camera effect will occur regardless of the height of the character’s position now.

INVINCIBLE SPECIAL MOVES:
Z Assist and Ultimate Z Change will now be unusable during Invincible Special Moves aside from when it hits.

POWERED-UP SPECIAL MOVE:
Reduce the amount of Recoverable Health when receiving damage from Power-up Special Moves. (Excluding invincible moves)

SUPER ATTACK:
Reduce the amount of damage dealt when a move other than Ultimate Z Change connects after a Super Attack hits.
It is now easier to successfully connect Ultimate Z Change after Super Attacks.

ALL METEOR ATTACKS:
Increased the minimum damage of all Meteor Attacks.

SPARKING!:
– Sparking! can now be used while blocking. (Includes blocking in mid-air)
While Sparking! is active, reduce the amount of recoverable health of the opponent when damage is dealt to them. (Excluding invincible moves)
Increased the start up frames of Sparking! aside from when cancelled from an attack.

VANISH MOVE:
Camera change is easier to occur when cancelled from an attack.

Z-REFLECT:
You will be invincible to the opponent’s Sparking! activation after a successful Z-Reflect against an opponent’s attack.

ALL THROW MOVES, DRAGON RUSH:
Specific throw moves and Dragon Rush cannot connect more than once within a combo.

DRAGON RUSH:
Decreased the amount of Ki gauge gained and damage dealt.
After a Dragon Rush during mid-combo, camera change will not occur for subsequent hits. (Mid-combo Dragon Rushes will now use up your Smash attack if it’s still available.)

MID-AIR DRAGON RUSH:
The opponent will ground slide after a mid-air Dragon Rush during a combo.

GUARD CANCEL CHANGE:
Invincible state will now last until coming into contact or in close vicinity with the opponent.
Increased the recovery frames and landing recovery frames when blocked.

GROUND BACKSTEP:
Increase the distance travelled.

SHENRON (REVIVE ALLIES):
Increased the health of the revived ally.

SHENRON (MAKE ME IMMORTAL):
Increased the health recovery rate.

GROUND RECOVERY:
Reduced the collision from mid-air opponent. (It is now more difficult to get while Quick-Rising.)

DELAYED GROUND RECOVERY:
Until completely down, you will now be able to perform the different ground recovery options.

DRAMATIC FINISH:
Vanish Move will also trigger Dramatic Finish now.

For our readers who prefer a more visual guide to the alterations, rooflemonger’s got you covered with a video going through the most pertinent changes.

Capcom posts Version 04.010 patch notes for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Bug fixes, Crossover Costume bundles, and Cannon Spike Cammy returns to Fighting Chance!

Capcom recently released the official patch notes for Version 04.010 of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition following Tuesday’s period of server maintenance. The changes were fairly minimal, consistently chiefly of bug fixes, the addition of a Resident Evil Crossover Costume bundle — and the return of the original Fighting Chance costume Cannon Spike Cammy to Menat’s crystal ball readings via the resumed “ARSF Leader” campaign. Most notably, in terms of combat alterations, the explosion from Ibuki’s V-Trigger I bombs will no longer trigger M. Bison’s new Psycho Impact V-Skill counterattack. Juri and Urien also received a few minor bug fixes. No undocumented character balance changes have been found as of yet. You can see the full list of official notes below.

1/29 Update Info (Ver. 04.010)

Following server maintenance on January 29, Street Fighter V has been updated to Version 04.010.

• DLC
The following DLC is now available.
— Resident Evil Bundle

• Battle-Related Bug Fixes
— M. Bison
・Fixed so that the explosion from Ibuki’s V-Trigger I Rokushaku Horokudama bomb will not trigger his V-Skill Psycho Impact’s counter-attack.

・If, immediately after his CA Ultimate Psycho Crusher hits, his V-Trigger II special move Psycho Charge went off stunning the opponent, the opponent would be locked into the animation, and no damage would be dealt. This phenomenon has been fixed.

— Urien
・ If Urien performed his V-Trigger II move Tyrant Blaze with his V-Skill Metallic Aura active, and the charging part of the move from 2F onward was canceled due to being hit by an attack, Urien would keep the Metallic Aura state. This phenomenon has been fixed.

— Juri
・ If the projectile attack of L Fuharenkyaku hits the opponent at the same time as V-Trigger II Feng Shui Engine type beta, and this causes KO, the KO’ed opponent will float in mid-air for a short period of time. This phenomenon has been fixed.

• Fighting Chance
— “ARSF Leader,” for the additional costume “Cannon Spike: Cammy,” is now underway in Fighting Chance.

We hope you continue to enjoy playing Street Fighter V.

Shoryuken interview: Dead or Alive 6 director Yohei Shimbori talks about the open beta, NiCO, free to play possibilities, and more

SRK was given another opportunity to speak with the mind behind DOA6, and discuss the final rounds of development.

It’s been less than a year since Dead or Alive 6 has been announced, and its release is nearly upon us!

Nearly a month and a half before the release of Dead or Alive 6, Shoryuken was given the opportunity to travel to Koei Tecmo America’s headquarters and interview DOA6 Director and Producer, Yohei Shimbori, to discuss the beta, closing development, and future support.

DOA6_Logo resize

Austyn “Lazybones2020” Roney: Thank you all for having me again, it’s wonderful to be with you! With it being so close to the release of Dead or Alive 6, how are you feeling about development?

Yohei Shimbori: Of course we are doing our best with development, but at the same time since I am here and not actually watching over the development cycle, I’m a little bit worried. [laughs] We are hoping that the fans, of course, will continue to support us.

Lazybones2020: Even though there was a little bit of a delay, I am sure fans are looking forward to the game more than ever. Can we go into specifics of the two-week delay? What is going to be changed and why was it needed?

Shimbori: The cause for the delay was just small bugs here and there and so we wanted to resubmit the master for the game. At the same time, we wanted to make small character adjustments in balancing the gameplay.

Lazybones2020: And part of that I am sure was taking the information from the beta that you just had. Was there anything specific you have learned from the beta, or was it more of a stress test for online functions?

Shimbori: It would actually be both, we wanted to fix whatever we found as well as using the comments from the users as well as fixing the game including balance.

DOA6_Hayate_Bass1

Lazybones2020: Were there any specific gameplay mechanics that you have seen the fans give feedback about? I have seen a vocal segment of players discuss the sidestep and its speed not being what they expected.

Shimbori: Looking at the feedback, from mostly the North American players, the “ground game” was not received as well as we expected. That’s something we would like to improve in terms of balancing.

Lazybones2020: There is so much variety to the gameplay, with the basic strikes, heavy attacks, blocks, holds, and the break gauge system, it’s incredible to think of the mixups that are possible in this game. Nyotengu is especially fun to combine air and ground moves with, thanks to her flight. How do you keep all of the combat options together?

Shimbori: I’m a pretty big fighting game fan, it even shows up in my dreams. [laughs] I guess I just come up with it.

Lazybones2020: [Referencing Shimbori’s Bayman outfit] Do you have multiple costumes at home?

Shimbori: I’ve got a few! [laughs] I get made fun of with my other costumes, so that’s why I wear this one.

Lazybones2020: Well this one is great, it suits you!

Lazybones2020: I have read in other interviews that this game was unaffected by Sony’s recent policies regarding censorship. Was this ever a concern for this title’s development, considering there are two separate versions of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet, one for PlayStation 4 — which was censored — and one for Nintendo Switch, which remained unaffected?

Shimbori: Of course we are careful with making changes because if you look at DOA5 Last Round and Xtreme 3, they are very different games. Last Round is a fighting game of course, and we wanted to focus on the number of enjoyment players got from Last Round and making it better.

DOA6_DX_TinaZack

Lazybones2020: NiCO, is the final new character that I’m aware of, that has been added to the game. Could you tell me a little bit about her development and how she fits in the universe? From what I understand, she is a scientist who is researching the other characters to make a kind of ultimate fighter.

Shimbori: Regarding the story, we can’t really talk about that since we want to keep it a secret, but as a fighter, of course, with DOA there are different fighting styles so we wanted to add a new fighting style to it. She uses Pencak Silat, a historic fighting style from Southeast Asia. We want to clarify some things about NiCO as well. When we had the reveal trailer for NiCO, it made it look like she mainly uses electric attacks, but she is also a master of this Pencak Silat fighting style.

Lazybones2020: When designing, NiCO, she’s obviously very cute and also appears as a genius, what brought you all to this appearance?

Shimbori: She was originally designed to be a Russian character, so we took a look at a lot of female Russian characters. We also took a look at pictures of different ages, from young to old, from both Russia and Ukraine. We asked our character designers have the facial design, known in DOA, and match it to the images we found. She actually ended up being Finnish!

Lazybones2020: Speaking of character designs, the overall look for Dead or Alive 6 is the best its ever been. Was there a style guide for establishing these characters in the newest iteration of this universe? How was the look determined?

Shimbori: With regards to the design, we actually didn’t change it completely from the previous designs, the new look all comes from the new engine. We had to look at how lighting works, shading, as well as character facial animations.

In the previous game there were no real time shadows, but with DOA6 since its a new engine, there were new challenges with the new technology, so we had to focus on smaller details. So for example, if a character makes a weird face, its really going to look like a weird face.

DOA6_Eliot_Christie

Lazybones2020: Earlier, a couple of weeks back, I saw a listing on the Microsoft Store for “Dead or Alive 6: Core Fighters”. Is this supposed to be viewable, or is it an early look at the future free to play initiative you previously mentioned?

Shimbori: It was a mistake actually, we didn’t mean to post that in the store. I’m actually pretty surprised to see it on the store. I can say that we have planned to make a free to play version of Dead or Alive 6, however, we haven’t announced what kind of content that is going to be in it or when it is going to be available, but it will most likely be a short time post launch.

Lazybones2020: Ah, interesting! I have seen some things pop up early on the Microsoft Store from time to time.

Shimbori: The fault was actually ours, internally, not the Microsoft Store.

Lazybones2020: Good to know! As a side note, there is a physical collector’s edition in Japan for Dead or Alive 6, is the only collector’s item coming to North America, the steel book?

Shimbori: Yes.

Lazybones2020: Will the pre-order DLC and Deluxe Edition DLC be available to purchase separately for those who might not be able to have purchased the game in time?

Shimbori: We can’t really promise anything right now, but for characters, we are planning on having them purchasable at some point, as well as the deluxe edition costumes. We are considering having Nyotengu purchasable at some point after launch.

DOA6_Brad and Nyotengu

Lazybones2020: Understood! Now that we have the full launch roster, are there any characters you would have liked to have in the game but couldn’t, or would you like to focus on adding more original characters moving forward?

Shimbori: Nyotengu and Phase 4 were added at a later time, and I’m pretty satisfied with that. In regards to adding characters at a later time, at the very beginning, we took out any characters that were not involved in the story. Based on fan reaction, we might add new characters, veteran characters, or even collaboration characters.

Lazybones2020: I saw a lot of the character customization in the new modes you have available. It’s nice to see that there are so many costumes available without requiring an additional purchase. What prompted you to include these costumes and allow them to be unlocked and what brought about the design of these costumes?

Shimbori: Of course, we don’t want to just give away the costumes for free, we want players to try out characters. During DOA5 we looked at how people would test out the game, especially in Core Fighters, then leave. So we wanted to add some motivation to that, so that’s why we added the in-game currency for players to get things they want. We added the Quest Mode to accomplish this!

Lazybones2020: The Quest Mode is quite a lot of fun! I enjoy having a concrete goal to strive towards and unlocking costumes makes it even better!

I’ve got time for one last question, for the esports side, now that the game is coming out, are there any plans for tournaments near the launch of the game?

Shimbori: It is still currently being looked at but as soon as we have something solid we will announce it as soon as we can. We are all striving towards this right now. Before launch, we are going to be a part of Evo Japan, it won’t be one of the main tournaments because it is prior to launch, but we do have a stage that will be available on day one, on February 15th.

Lazybones2020: Wonderful! We are all looking forward to seeing how the players react to the title once it’s launched and for its continued support. Thank you again for your time, it was great getting to meet you again! I hope we get to see each other again soon.

Shimbori: Certainly!

DOA6_NiCO_Kasumi

Dead or Alive 6 is barely over a month away and players will have a lot to look forward to with the new title. Its been a great ride covering this game from announcement to finish, it’s only a few more moments until we all get to see what DOA6 has to offer!
