Rising Up: Season 3.5 — Important changes for Nash, Karin, R. Mika, Birdie, Necalli, Rashid, Laura, & F.A.N.G

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition has only been out for a few months, but the community had been voicing strong opinions about various characters’ Season 3 changes; in light of this, Capcom released a mid-season balance patch which sought to address some of the most common complaints about the game’s engine, and the characters in question. This patch also includes various small balance changes to every character. Because of this, I’m preparing a series of videos on ShoryukenTube showing off the most important gameplay adjustments on a per-character basis.

Continuing from my last post, this week covers the returning Street Fighter Alpha veterans Charlie Nash, Karin Kanzuki, Rainbow Mika, and Birdie, as well as the characters who debuted in Street Fighter V (on the launch roster): Necalli, Rashid, Laura, and F.A.N.G.

If you missed the previous videos, check them out here:

Rising Up: Season 3.5 — Overview and important changes for Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, M. Bison, Vega, Dhalsim, & Zangief

That covers the base roster of the game; I’ll continue on with the DLC characters in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out on the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel so you don’t miss out!

IGN showcases SoulCalibur VI with two hours of gameplay footage

The soul still burns, and IGN knows this. With SoulCalibur VI being as highly-anticipated as it is, gameplay footage is always interesting to see.

IGN has given us a load of it with this two-hour stream they did earlier in the week. We get a glimpse of every character playable within the build they used — minus the recently-announced Siegfried and Geralt — and see a lot of the offensive and defensive capabilities built within the system. The game shows off some of the mechanics introduced in the last iteration, while maintaining the depth of moves from earlier titles, making the pain of anticipation all the more keen.

VesperArcade shows off combos and possibilities for Falke’s V-Triggers in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Falke is bringing a pretty different playstyle to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Those who enjoy a more defensive approach and nullifying the opponent’s advances should be quite a fan of what she seems to be bringing. Before she becomes available, get to know the character in depth with this V-Skill and V-Trigger explanation from VesperArcade.

Falke’s V-Skill is a protective move that negates projectiles, even low-profiling ones. It also hits the opponent and sends them flying back. It’s a reliable knockdown and combos well. As for the first V-Trigger, it enhances her projectiles, making them hit three times, increasing their hit stun. Also, She can still use her regular shots if she wants to.

In V-Trigger II, the activation is an attack in itself, launching the opponent high — This is something Falke wants to confirm into. It’s not an anti-air, but you can cancel it into a Critical Art to dish out some damage. This V-Trigger enables Falke to use to two new moves and enhances her V-Skill, which now starts to reflect projectiles.

BeasTV drops 14-minute trailer for “9road” indie film, starring Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike legend Kuroda

Several months back, Daigo the BeasTV dropped a surprise trailer for what seemed to be a little indie film called 9road. At the time, little was known about the project other then its leading stars — including FGC legends such as Kuroda and Eita — were acting in roles that referenced the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike universe.

If you had any thought in your mind that this project would somehow eventually tie to the 3rd Strike gameplay of Kuroda’s excellent Q, then the latest trailer will likely change your mind:

Clocking in at a hefty 14 minutes, this trailer leans heavily on the dark and weird 3rd Strike-inspired world and makes it clear that it is, first and foremost, its own story. 9road is a strange project for FGC alumni, and a strange source of inspiration for a serious indie film — it’ll be exciting to see how these two worlds collide in the finished project.

Street Fighter “You Lose” 32-gigabyte flash drive to be released by BigBoyToysHK in June

Do you want a constant, physical reminder of Ryu’s tier placement in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition? Do you need to transfer files? Do you need to transfer a file about Ryu’s pitiable tier placement? If any of the aforementioned rings true (or, hell, I dunno, maybe you just like Ryu), then BigBoysToys has an amusing flash drive for you:

From the same Hong Kong based designers that brought you “The New Challenger” line of toys, the 32 gigabye “You Lose” flash drive appears to be a one-off item at the moment. But if it does well when it releases this June, don’t be surprised if all your favorite World Warriors’ K.O. poses become vehicles for your very important documents, Street Fighter-related or otherwise.

Fused Zamasu Dragon Ball FighterZ V-Jump scan translated by ShonenGameZ

The most sinister god arrives!

Following confirmation that Fused Zamasu is going to be the third DLC character in Dragon Ball FighterZ, his scan from the most recent issue of V-Jump magazine has been translated by ShonenGameZ, enlightening us more about the semi-Immortal god’s play-style.

After noting that he’ll be officially referred to in-game as Zamasu (Fusion) the scan notes that, “He’ll play somewhat differently than any of the current characters released.” This is largely in part to the fused deity’s ability to float, similar to BlazBlue’s Izanami. This gives him access to an 8-way airdash, providing him with unequaled aerial mobility. When mixed with Assists and Vanishes, this could prove quite terrifying for any pathetic mortals who dare to impede his holy plans for a utopia.

Furthermore, his Level 1 Super, “Holy Wrath”, sees Zamasu fire a large amount of energy from his fingertips. Shonen notes, “this is an ideal move for closing out your attacks!” Based on that description and the provided photos, I suspect this Super will gain increased hits and damage with falling momentum, similar to Frieza’s “Death Ball”, Goku Black’s “Holy Light Grenade” and Broly’s “Gigantic Meteor”, making it the ideal final attack during an Ultimate Z-Change.

His Level 3 Meteor Special is the Lighting Of Absolution, which sees Zamasu “bring forth a giant figure spreading its wings. This Meteor Special is a wide area attack that fires lightning.” He also appears to have the “Blades of Judgment” in his arsenal.  Lastly, we learn that more information about this release will be revealed in the next issue of V-Jump, which should release around a month from now — possibly even with the official announcement of the other leaked character: Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegito. You can see the full translated scan below:

Zamasu (Fusion) can be purchased individually for $4.99 as part of DLC 2, or as part of the FighterZ Pass, which also has Bardock, Broly, and five other unannounced DLC characters for $34.99. Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC in North America, Europe and Japan.

What are your thoughts on this newest addition to the DBFZ roster, now that you’ve heard further details on how he plays? Was his style what you were hoping for, or were you looking to see something else from him? Tell us in the comments below!

Street Fighter V’s Sakura is coming to Monster Hunter: World on May 4

As many of you may already know, Capcom has held multiple collaborations between Street Fighter V and Monster Hunter: World. Announced last January at Evo Japan, the collaboration saw each game receiving crossover costumes from the other.

Now, the final crossover costume (that we know of so far) is finally arriving: Sakura, as she appears in Street Fighter V, is coming to Monster Hunter: World on PlayStation 4 as a complete armor set on May 4.

For any hunters out there looking to dress up as her, the tickets required to craft the “Sakura α” armor set will come from a series of challenge quests in the arena. Unlike the Ryu costume — which came from only one quest that players repeated a couple of times — Sakura has three different hunts.

All three hunts (named “Empress in Full Bloom I, II, and III”), will become available from 12:00 AM UTC on May 4 (5:00 PM Pacific on May 3)  until 11:59 PM on May 10 (4:59 PM Pacific on May 9) and will require players to be at Hunter Rank 12 to participate.

History Behind the Warrior looks at Raiden — and the possibility that he may be the next main Mortal Kombat villain

Following up on their previous videos, History Behind the Warrior is continuing to delve deeper in the mythos behind the rebooted Mortal Kombat universe. In their latest episode, they take a look at the most likely candidate to be the main villain in the next installment of the series: Raiden.

Traditionally, Raiden has been the “big good” of the series, being the force behind the heroes. However, he did become a villain in the previous continuity, something that the new timeline seems to be repeating, as shown by the post-credits scene of Mortal Kombat X. In addition to this however, they also look at other hints hidden throughout the game’s story as well as in the “endings” in the arcade ladder mode.

The interesting bit about this, however, is that “Dark Raiden” in the previous timeline was merely just a subplot. If Raiden is the main villain in future games, it would represent the first time that he’ll get a proper villainous story arc.
