ESports Scotland to add Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and Rivals of Aether to inaugural Scottish ESports League

Esports Scotland is currently underway with the country’s very first ” Scottish ESports League”, or SEL. This online league, which proudly proclaims is “made in Scotland, available to everyone” will be adding two fighting games to the roster in the near future — Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4/PC) and Rivals of Aether (PC).

Every game will have 5 single bracket tournaments over 25 weeks, where players can accumulate points. Each player in a league will gain points depending on their placement in played tournaments for their specific game. At the end of the season, all points will be added up to produce a players’s season rank.
The current plans are to open registrations for events two games at a time — so the likelihood of registration opening for both of these fighters at the same time is quite high. You can find out more about the SEL here, and also check out their Twitch channel.

Dragon Ball FighterZ damage scaling glitch allows Frieza to set up easy touch-of-death combos with Sparking Blast

Recently, we reported on how Captain Ginyu in Dragon Ball FighterZ can abuse a glitch to create infinite combos. Now, another glitch has been found with another character that, while not exactly setting up full infinites, also allows them to easily kill off an opposing character.

The character this time is Frieza, and this glitch allows him to set up what may be the easiest touch-of-death combos in the game so far — as long as he still has a teammate to back him up. As Urin_boh demonstrates in a couple of videos on Twitter, while in Sparking Blast, his standing medium attack into super deals more damage than normal… With this, he can call in his teammate to perform a level 5 Meteor attack that will kill off his opponent.

The easiest character to pull this off with is Teen Gohan, thanks to the damage of his “Father and Son Kamehameha,” as you can see in the tweet below.

However, even with a character who can only pull off a level 3 Meteor that can’t be enhanced to level 5, this still allows for some very big damage — to the point that a character who isn’t at full health will probably get taken out anyway.

Olaf Redland breaks down SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy’s latest build from WNF

As previously reported, NIS America brought SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy to Wednesday Night Fights last week. This gave players at the event a chance to try out the game, and figure out how it actually works! One of the players at WNF last week was Olaf Redland. Now, some of you may recall Redland from the early breakdowns he provided for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite; now he’s done the same for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. Redland has provided a pretty heft list of notes over on TwitLonger. Some of it is stuff we’ve already previously heard about, however there’s also a ton of new stuff, including character-specific things.

Among the things he goes into depth about is the game’s item system. For those who may not have heard about this, in this game, boxes randomly spawn during a match and players can use this to equip certain items. Currently, item usage is mapped to the right analog stick — this makes it tricky to use for arcade stick users, and SNK is apparently looking into solutions for this. In the breakdown, Redland lists all of the known items so far, and their effects.

In addition to this, he also lists the known rules for things such as juggles, characters specials, and blocking. On juggles, he notes that there are some rules to limit them — for example, air-to-air moves can only be used once, meanwhile grounded moves that hit multiple times now only hit once.

For special moves in the new “Smash-like” system (direction plus the S button), he notes that there is a general theme to what combination of S and any direction does. For example, forward and S always seems to put out a projectile (if the character has one) meanwhile down and S is an anti-air.

As for blocking, as previously mentioned, the game uses a block button (again, like Smash). This produces a shield around the character that blocks all attacks, except for throws. Pressing the block button in the air, however, will instead produce an air dodge.

Now, another thing we’ve also known about for awhile is the fact that you need to do supers to knock out a character. Without a super, a character instead gets dizzied when their life bar goes down. With this in mind, Redland the current strategy for the game seems to be to go for the dizzy, raw tag, then use the tagged-in character’s meter to go for a super.

Of course, this is just part of Redland’s notes. He also goes a bit more about things such as characters normals, the rules for special canceling — and of course, individual character notes. Check out Redland’s SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy notes here.

Tekken 7’s Noctis video roundup: Relaunch okizeme, wall break options, and more!

The FGC has had some time now to experiment with Final Fantasy XV‘s sword-slinging Noctis in Tekken 7. His ease-of-use combined with his surprisingly solid fundamental tools have, thus far, seemed to inspire the 3D FGC. Let’s see what cool stuff players have put together for the Prince of DLC recently:

JacksonFive Tekken found that Noctis’s DB+1, 1+2 string can relaunch off the ground.

On that note, Noctis’s okizeme in general appears to be very good, as demonstrated by N7_Null. Check out the relaunch possibilities after his canned combo-ender!

cutcc has a number of helpful notes for some of the unique attributes of playing as and against Noctis.

For those that aren’t sure how to approach playing Noctis, sikshot gaming sent in his guide for picking up the powerful prince.

And closing us out today is HurtboxTV, who shows off many of the resets listed above in his latest combo video!

If you see anything worth sharing, let us know by submitting a tip for our next roundup. Thanks everyone!

Prepare to change the future with these Dragon Ball FighterZ breakdowns for Bardock

After covering several pre-release breakdowns for Broly, it’s time to shine the spotlight on the other DLC character just-arrived to Dragon Ball FighterZ: the father of Goku and Raditz, Bardock. As before with Broly, the likes of Maximilian, PND|Ketchup and Mustard, Hellpockets, Rhymestyle, and AfroSenju XL were able to travel to the Bandai Namco Entertainment America and Europe offices to capture some pre-release footage of this character, ahead of his official release today.

The most notable thing about Bardock at first glance is that aside from a regular, single-shot Ki Blast, the low-class Saiyan is purely focused on rushdown — with a variety of specials that move him forward, allowing him to quickly close in on foes and enter his ideal attack range.

Maximilian notes that he feels like an amalgamation of several characters currently on the roster, such as Super Saiyan Goku, Goku Black, Yamcha, Piccolo and Adult Gohan, as unlike Broly, “everything flows and just works.”

Rebellion Spear, like all of Bardock’s specials, can be done on both the ground and the air, with the Heavy/EX version having either a launching or knockdown follow-up with an additional button press depending on the version used — but it will not come out on block. Though Bardock does seem to get more aerial actions than most characters. The Raging Meteor provides Bardock with meterless hard knockdowns, and can also be performed whether you’re grounded or airborne. Tyrant Lancer is a Chargeable strike that provides a fullscreen wallbounce. The Light version also serves as his Assist.

Moving on to his three supers, Riot Javelin is standard projectile fare, but Saiyan Spirit uniquely stands out as “the Bionic Lancer of Dragon Ball FighterZ,” as it’s currently the only Level 1 with startup invincibility, giving Bardock an extremely cheap and dangerous reversal option that demands respect whenever his team has any Ki whatsoever. Revenge Assault is a standard cinematic Level 3, and like everything else, can be used grounded or airborne. For additional footage and impressions, see the videos below!

Bardock and Broly are available in Dragon Ball FighterZ tomorrow, and can be purchased, along with 6 additional DLC characters, as part of the FighterZ Pass (and are included in the FighterZ and Ultimate Editions) or can be bought individually.

Mobile puzzle game “Ink Wars” has added Ryan Hart, Justin Wong, and more FGC celebrities as playable characters

As the FGC grows, its influence will show up in the unlikeliest of places… Take, for example, the case of the mobile puzzle game Ink Wars…

While this game has kicked around on mobile platforms in some form since 2016, the game’s most recent character reveals features the stylized likenesses of multiple FGC players, including Ryan Hart, Justin Wong, Smug, Marn, and Gllty. But that’s just the surface — the gameplay itself is designed by long time fighting-game player Steven Wu, and the influence our genre has had is evident in the game’s mechanics.

You can get Ink Wars for free today at the Google PlayStore and iOS App Store.

SoulCalibur VI and CD Projekt Red go behind the scenes with Geralt of Rivia in this showcase video

Have Geralt’s adventures in SoulCalibur VI joined The Witcher canon?

Bandai Namco has released a look at the development for Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher franchise within SoulCalibur VI. Developers from CD Projekt Red have been working closely with the SoulCalibur VI team ensuring that Geralt is as authentic as possible, while still fitting perfectly within the fighting game universe.

Also, according to Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz, the Director of English Adaptations from CD Projekt Red, Geralt’s inclusion in SoulCalibur VI can be viewed as more than just a guest character cameo. “…Geralt’s romp into the world of SoulCalibur VI could be considered an extension of the interdimensional travel he did in The Witcher 3,” said Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz.

Check out the complete showcase below, and see the dedication the developers are exhibiting to ensure their beloved character meets the expectations of players of both The Witcher and SoulCalibur.

Injustice 2 becomes Legendary with this new release trailer

The time has finally arrived. Not only will “every battle define you” in Injustice 2, but the clashes between DC heroes and villains, as well as a variety of guests, will now be Legendary — as the Injustice 2 Legendary Edition, which contains all 10 previously-released DLC characters (Darkseid, Red Hood, Sub-Zero, Starfire, Black Manta, Raiden, Hellboy, The Atom, Enchantress and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello & Raphael) and all Premiere Skins, including a brand-new Bruce Wayne attire for Batman, is now available.

It includes a myriad of new Epic Gear Sets for every character, Legendary Multiverses for DLC characters, as well as an increased character level cap, brand-new Gear Augments, and the Learn Hub: a massively expansive Tutorial that teaches you both the ins and outs of the game, as well as the meaning of frame data and character-specifics, in the event you’re wanting to brush up on a match-up or add a new fighter to your squad. It can all be yours for $59.99 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For current owners of Injustice 2, the Legendary Edition patch already went live last Thursday. You can see the trailer below — as well as a short list of patch notes, and new Epic Gear Sets for Hellboy, Batman, Robin, and Black Adam.

• No balance changes were made with this update
• Level cap raised to 30
• New Legendary Multiverses (DLC Characters) have been added
• A new tutorial has been added
• New Gear Sets have been added
• Stats adjustments to level 20 gear have been made
• Regen tokens obtained prior to the update have been converted to Credits
• An additional Ability Slot can be unlocked at level 30
• Additional Inventory slots can be unlocked at level 25
• Additional ways to obtain Epic gear have been introduced
• A new Premium skin is now available – Bruce Wayne
• PC version – A fix was made to Michelangelo’s “Shell Mill” move to behave like the console version
• Additional Bug Fixes

During the previous Watchtower Livestream, Steve “16-Bit” Brownback noted that the two bug fixes that would slightly effect gameplay were aimed at the TMNT, specifically Leonardo and Raphael, noting that if he is hit out of his Character Power – Raphael on the first four frames or so of him coming out, Raph will no longer still throw his sai at the opponent, making this slightly weaker as defensive option for the leading Turtle. As for Raph, his Character Power – Hype Level will now remember the Level of Hype Raph is at before being Meter Burned, and will no longer incorrectly spend all of his Levels when he intended to only use a few of them.

NetherRealm Studios has also mentioned being aware of some issues with the new patch locking players out of previously purchased Shaders if downloaded before a specific time on Thursday — as well as an issue with Legendary Mutiverse progress being erased — hat they promise to address in a future patch.
