For those unfamiliar with this old-school icon, Capcom-Unity offers this brief history:

Captain Commando first appeared in the side-scrolling beat ‘em up game, Captain Commando (1991), as the leader of the Commando Team. Along with the other three playable characters – Mack the Knife, Ginzu the Ninja, and Baby Head – Captain Commando must protect Planet Earth from a group of criminals with superhuman powers. With blond hair, glasses, and a dutiful drive, Nash is the perfect character to embody what Captain Commando stands for.

As before, you need to complete four time-sensitive challenges in Extra Battle to earn the costume; see the schedule below. The first challenge opens on March 15th. Don’t forget these challenges also overlap with the ongoing Monster Hunter Extra Battle challenges!

As it costs 2500 FM to play each challenge, the costume is yours for 10,000 FM — if you complete every challenge at least once!

Dasvergeben’s leaks suggest SoulCalibur VI details, more Dragon Ball FighterZ characters — and a new JoJo’s game from French Bread?!

Over the last few months, Dasvergeben has become a well-known leaker in the fighting game community. They have revealed things such as Enchantress and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rounding out Injustice 2‘s Fighter Pack 3 — days before their reveal at ELEAGUE — as well as Broly, Bardock, Base Goku and Base Vegeta being part the Dragon Ball FighterZ FighterZ Pass, not to mention the very existence of SoulCalibur VI, including that it would be revealed at The Game Awards last December.

Most recently, he claims to have been contacted by a former employee of Bandai Namco Entertainment, who apparently believed they were wrongfully terminated from the company and chose him to be a surrogate for certain information. As with all such leaks and rumors, have a massive pinch of salt handy!

For SoulCalibur VI, the source claims that the game’s final roster will be — as far as they’re aware — 22 characters at launch, with 6 more being DLC; though this info is about 6 weeks old, so it could’ve changed. Specific characters mentioned include Hwang, Talim, Grøh’s adoptive father Friderich, Maxi’s lover Jacker, as well as One Piece‘s Roronoa Zoro serving as a guest character. Three of the six DLC characters this source seemingly knows about are Zasalamel (whom was apparently changed to be a launch character last month, recently revealed alongside Ivy Valentine), Cervantes, and a second female guest character. After speaking with his main SCVI source — who has seemingly been correct about everything so far — Dasvergeben was told the following:

They know about Grøh’s father, which shows they have some info right and 22 characters sounds about right, but I was under the impression it was going to be 24 on launch. I did say Hwang had WAAAAYYY more chance of making it in over Yunseong to you. His SC6 info while I can’t confirm it does sound believable. I would just call it a rumor for now though and not confirmed. I can’t say anything about the guest character either, but I feel like I have seen something about Zoro in relation to this game. I wasn’t told the name of Grøh’s dad yet, even if he was just an adoptive father or not.

Moving on to Dragon Ball FighterZ, a second season of DLC characters has apparently just come out of the planning stages, and this person was translating the paperwork before they got fired, noting that the characters will be released in packs of two — which seems feasible, given that Broly and Bardock were revealed together. The characters will reportedly be:

  • Tapion and Gogeta
  • Master Roshi and Videl (w/ The Great Saiyaman)
  • Raditz and Zarbon (which Dasvergeben discussed being in the works in a previous post)
  • Cabba and Kale (w/Caulifla)

He also notes that the original 8 characters from the FighterZ Pass (Broly, Bardock, Base Goku, Base Vegeta, SSGSS Vegito, Merged Zamasu, Cooler, and Android 17), should all be released by July, which would in turn make them all legal for Evo in August. He also notes that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is not currently in development, but that an action-RPG about the original Dragon Ball is in pre-production.

Lastly, Dasvergeben mentions he’s been contacted about a new JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting game, developed by Soft Circle French Bread, the creators of Melty Blood, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and Under Night In-Birth, that “will have 2D visuals much like Dragon Ball FighterZ, and will feature Jotaro Kujo, Young Joseph Joestar, Johnny Joestar, Jolyne Cujoh, Yoshikage Kira and DIO as members of the roster, with a Story Mode and an English dub provided by VIZ Media… though even he finds this info difficult to believe!

For further details — such as a pair of rejected character designs for SCVI, as well as other non-fighting game leaks related to Bandai Namco Entertainment, you can check out the full threads on reddit in the source links.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy for Switch now has a release date in North America

Some time back, we reported that Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 were bringing Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy to Nintendo Switch in Japan this April. Now, we finally have word on when the game will be coming to North America.

A new trailer has been released, officially announcing that Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy for the Switch is coming Westward. Just like in Japan, fans of the franchise on Nintendo’s hybrid system will be able purchase the game on April 26, 2018.

For those not familiar with the game, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy is a compilation of the first three Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm games that originally came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was originally released for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One last summer, just in time for the release of  Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4:Road to Boruto.

As previously reported, the Switch port will run at the same 30 fps as the original releases, but will feature a higher resolution (1600 x 900) when docked. In addition to this, it will come with the DLC released for the PlayStation 4 version.

Team Liquid returns to Street Fighter V by signing Nemo and John Takeuchi

These signings are just the beginning of Team Liquid’s focus on Japanese esports.

Team Liquid has announced a return to Street Fighter V competition in a big way by announcing the opening of their new Alienware-partnered training facility in Los Angeles, and carrying that partnership even further by bringing AW|Nemo onto the team! This is part of a new effort to make inroads into the Japanese fighting game community — and ultimately a bigger impact on global competition overall — and if Nemo wasn’t enough SFV muscle to sign on, they’ve also announced that John Takeuchi is joining the team. Check out the announcement video below:

Nemo is a well-known threat in competitive Street Fighter; he made a big splash at Capcom Cup 2017 by breaking in through the Last Chance Qualifier and crushing opposition with his Urien, all the way to the finals. John Takeuchi really caught everyone’s eye with his deadly Rashid play at Evo Japan, going toe-to-toe with legendary players and holding his own. Expect to see both of these fighters making waves on the SFV circuit this year. Read more on Team Liquid’s website.

The David Spence time capsule continues with video footage of Old School Challenge 2001

David Spence’s home videos are offering the new school players a glimpse into what tournaments were like over a decade ago. Moreover, it gives us a look at long-lost footage of events long since past, as well as players that have hung up their joysticks, but once were tops of their region.

This video features footage of the Old School Challenge tournament, that took place at 8 on the Break in New Jersey in 2001. Featured in this footage is Nothingness — still considered one of the strongest Honda players in North America — footage of Arturo Sanchez playing Vega (Claw) long before his switch to Dhalsim, and some faces that are now unknown making top 8.

Street Fighter Carnival X continues with SNK vs. Capcom: SvC Chaos tournament

Street Fighter Carnival X is Mikado Arcade’s currently-ongoing multi-game tournament series for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. To see the beginning of these high level Japanese tournaments, go here!

SNK vs. Capcom: SvC Chaos may not have been the success of any of its Capcom-produced predecessors, but it has enjoyed a cult following despite many of its well-documented balance problems. The game has a surprisingly entertaining pace, and there’s something charming about watching the absurdity of its top tiers clashing. It doesn’t hurt any that this game is the source of some rare and gorgeous SNK sprite work of Capcom characters.

You can follow the action of SFCX by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel. For the night owls in the US, you can even try to catch them when they livestream.

Out-ninjutsu your opponent with these Ibuki combos in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Meno is back with another great combo video. This time, they set their sight on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s Ibuki. The ninja has received a couple of exciting tools in the latest version, so if you haven’t explored her in-depth yet, this is a great opportunity.

The notation of each combo is displayed at the top of the video for reference. The sequences are organized by screen position, starter, and resource usage, so it’s easy to find something for any situation. The latter sections of the video cover mostly heavy kick jump-ins and highly damaging routes. Several also have V-Trigger activations. Her second V-Trigger, the Fuma Shuriken, comes back like a boomerang — it’s not only a good combo tool, but it can also setup a cross-up reset situation, which can be seen around the 2:28 minute mark.

Refer to the full video below to learn how to catch opponents off-guard with Street Fighter V‘s (first) ninja:

Recently, Capcom discussed V-Trigger scaling for the character in a post.
