After the success of the first Killer Classic, Microsoft have decided to hold another two-day Killer Instinct tournament this weekend at their flagship store in New York City. With a bolstered prize pool, expect some intense KI action as players from New York and beyond battle it out.

Rather than just offering a prize for the winner, the second Killer Classic offers some rewards for the second and third place players. First place gets an Xbox One X and $200, second place gets a custom Killer Instinct arcade stick and $200, while third place gets $100 and several Ultimate Source KI figurines.

With only 16 slots, the bracket is now full — containing players like ELV|Rico Suave, UA|Bass, Circa|Aphex, Circa|Shatter and many more. If the Killer Classic is set to become a regular event, I would like to see Microsoft expand to a 32-person bracket, so more KI players can compete.

For those wanting to tune into the Killer Classic, all the action will be streamed live via the official Microsoft Store Mixer channel.

While the upcoming open beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ starts on January 14, those who pre-ordered will be able to play the game a day early.

For those players in the EU who have pre-ordered the game, Bandai Namco Europe recently sent out a reminder on Twitter for them to redeem their codes, so that they can gain early access.

Players who pre-ordered should go to this site. Here, they can enter their details, as well as the retailer code that should have come with their pre-order. Once this is done, they then need to link their PSN or Xbox Live accounts, again with their retailer code. This should allow them redeem their early access into the beta.

Take note that this is for European players only. Players in North America who pre-ordered the game digitally can simply download the client by searching for “Dragon Ball FighterZ Open Beta Early Access” on either the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.

When Dragon Ball FighterZ had its first closed beta last September, it focused mainly on getting players matched up with each other. As such, it didn’t really have any safe place for players to try out characters, moves, and combos. With the new beta however, it seems that this won’t be the case.

In a recent Tweet, Bandai Namco South East Asia confirmed that the mode exists in Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta.

Practice (Battle Tutorial) will be included. Please look forward to it!

With this, Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s beta follows in the footsteps of other fighting game betas such as those for Fighting Layer EX, Street Fighter V, and of course, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore‘s “endless beta” that also feature a practice mode.

Aside from helping test the game’s online play, betas such as that for Dragon Ball FighterZ, also allows players to learn more about how the game plays, in preparation for playing the full game on launch. As such, adding in a training mode is a great move by any company that’s beta testing their fighting games. [It is possible that “Practice (Battle Tutorial)” refers specifically to more of a trial mode than an open training mode, but which of the two are in the open beta has not yet been clarified. – Editor]

Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta runs from January 14 to 15, with pre-orders getting early access on January 13. The game itself launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26 in the West, and February 1 in Japan.

With Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta taking place this weekend, many people are wondering who exactly will be playable in it. Well, wonder no more as Bandai Namco Games has revealed exactly who will be playable in the beta.

This weekend’s Dragon Ball FighterZ open beta will have the following playable characters:

• Android 18
• Beerus
• Cell
• Frieza
• Gohan (Adult)
• Goku
• Kid Buu
• Krillin
• Nappa
• Piccolo
• Vegeta

Of these, Beerus, Adult Gohan, Kid Buu, and Nappa are characters who were not present in the previous beta.

Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s open beta takes place this weekend. Those who pre-ordered get early access at 9:00 AM Pacific to 2:59 PM Pacific on January 13. Everyone else can log on starting at 12:00 AM Pacific on January 14. The beta runs until 12:00 AM on January 16.

Dragon Ball FighterZ for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC hits stores in the West on January 26, followed by Japan on February 1.

Bandai Namco UK are holding a public launch party on January 26th to celebrate not only Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s launch, but a storied legacy of Dragon Ball games. Along with stations with old Dragon Ball games like Budokai 3, Super Butoden and Raging Blast, fans can play Dragon Ball FighterZ the day before it launches worldwide.

If you’ve really put in the work following this weekend’s open beta, Bandai Namco will also be holding miniature tournaments during the launch party — so you can prove yourself as the best pre-release DBFZ player in the UK! Tickets are free but they are selling out faster than you can say “Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan”, so head on over to its special Eventbrite page to secure a ticket.

Many leading lights in the UK FGC will be in attendance — including yours truly — so expect some serious labwork to be going on in between tournaments!
