Injustice 2 January Update patch notes bring new legendary Multiverses, bug fixes, and Enchantress character data

Yesterday, the January update to Injustice 2 went live, in preparation for the arrival of Enchantress — the second character in Fighter Pack 3 — next month. In addition to adding the sorceress’s data to the game, the patch also brought with it a new set of Legendary Multiverse Portals for Black Canary, Harley Quinn, and Aquaman. There were also a variety of character-specific bug fixes — most notably for latest roster addition Atom — as well as fixing an issue where Black Manta’s Multiverse Sidekick attack could crash the game and several adjustments to Hellboy’s Devil’s Revolver and Heavy Hoof (J2), that caused some unintended interactions. The final notable change involves Clashing while certain objects are on screen, such as Darkseid’s active Parademons, Joker’s Chattering Teeth, and Legendary Gear Augment Surprise Chompers, Red Hood’s Ground Mines, or Wonder Woman’s Shield Toss. These projectiles will now disappear with a visual effect upon Clash initiation, making it easier for players to know they’re gone once they’ve been reset to full-screen distance. Meet Index and Railgun in the latest Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON trailers

To help familiarize fans with the world of their crossover mech arena fighter Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON, Sega has started releasing a series of character and Virtuaroid trailers.

The latest of these focus on two of the more important characters in the series: the British nun Index and the electromagnetically charged student Mikoto “Railgun” Misaka. Both should be familiar to anyone with passing knowledge of the Toaru Majutsu no Index franchise — Index lends her name to that of the franchise, while Mikoto became the lead of her own spin-off series Toaru Kagaku no Railgun.

The trailer below focus on their involvement in this crossover, showcasing some of each characters’s story as well as the Virtuaroids that they pilot. Index takes control of the IDX-10/3000 BAL-RlooN is a new design unique to Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON that seems to attack with “cute” items. Mikoto on the other hand pilots the HBV-502-H8/VSL Raiden 502 “Judge Igniters,” a new version of the classic Raiden line of Virtuaroids from previous games.

Face destruction in this Dragon Ball FighterZ Beerus breakdown by Perfect Legend

Bandai Namco has released yet another special character breakdown for Dragon Ball FighterZ. This time, the focus is put on Universe 7’s God of Destruction himself: Beerus.

Beerus possesses the power to destroy anyone for even the slightest of faults (such as not feeding him his favorite foods), and this is manifested in his moveset that involves a lot of long-range moves that get to his opponent before they get to him. This includes being one of the few characters that can combo from a neutral ki blast on hit.

The most important set of moves Beerus has, however, are the orbs of destruction that he can summon and use in various ways. They can be called into play in multiple ways, though he still needs to be careful — as his opponents can Super Dash through them.

Dragon Ball FighterZ launches onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26.

The mysterious Dr. Coyle joins the ARMS roster in its final major content update

Capping off their series of free content updates, the stretchy-limbed fighter ARMS is getting one final character, and a new stage as part of its Version 5.0 update. Along with the [NAME REDACTED] stage, players can now fight as the mysterious director of the ARMS laboratory, Dr. Coyle.

The scientist behind both Springtron and Helix, Dr. Coyle hopes to put all the data she has gathered into action, in becoming the top fighter on the ARMS Grand Prix. Not only can she conjure a third arm by charging her punch up, she can briefly turn invisible to surprise her opponent. Along with a ice nunchaku ARM and an electric parasol ARM, her main weapon is based on Hedlok – the evil multi-armed robot of her own creation. With this ARM, she can fire off a deadly energy orb which explodes on impact.

While Nintendo plan to release additional balance updates in the future, Version 5.0 is the final major content update for ARMS. There are still plans for regular Party Crash events to keep players interested — so don’t hang up your gloves just yet! ARMS is also having its first major tournament at Evo Japan next month, so tune in to see the world’s best virtual pugilists fight it out.

Square Enix has been slowly doling out numerous character trailers for the main characters from various mainline Final Fantasy games that are appearing in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. Now, they’ve come to the most recent one of them all: Noctis Lucis Caelum from last year’s Final Fantasy XV.

Check out the trailer below.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 on January 11 in Japan, followed by January 30 for Europe and North America. For players interested in trying it out before then, an open beta is coming to both Japan and the West.

Bet on blue with this Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ

With the recent announcement of Dragon Ball Super characters Beerus, Goku Black, and Hit joining the cast of Dragon Ball FighterZ, it’s easy to forget that these aren’t the first two characters from the series to join the game. The Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan version of Goku and Vegeta are also coming to the game as early unlockable characters for those who pre-order it.

Now, most likely to help remind people that these two exist (and help drive pre-orders), Bandai Namco are releasing individual trailers for these two: starting with Goku.

Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (or Super Saiyan Blue, for short) is a concept that was explored more in Dragon Ball Super — as such, the moves Goku does here reflect the many new things he’s learned in the series. This includes the ability to power himself up more by combining the form with the Kaio-ken technique, which is demonstrated as part of one of his super moves in the trailer below.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26 in the West, and February 1 in Japan. For those looking to get a taste of the game, an open beta is coming this January.

The Philocypher interviews AutoMattock on “FGC Philosophy” — talks learning Street Fighter V and Zeku

Just like he did with Gen in the early days of Street Fighter IV, AutoMattock has helped document and define the way Zeku works in Street Fighter V. These characters might have some common threads thanks to their stance-switching mechanics, but both are still very complex and difficult to learn within the short amount of time AutoMattock has done so.

In his guest appearance on The Philocypher’s FGC Philosophy, AutoMattock breaks down how he’s able to do this: his history in the FGC, and the invaluable strength of experience, regardless of what game you come from.
