Lucario’s buffed 2X expands his versatility in Pokkén Tournament DX

Pokkén Tournament’s Lucario has always been Mr. Fundamental: a low-execution, well-rounded character suited to handle any situation adequately. This made him a popular tournament pick, and an unlikely candidate for any major buffs or nerfs in future releases.

There was, perhaps, one tool in his movelist that seemed redundant though: his 2X. Coming in at the speed as his jab (13 frames), this ducking sweep led to nothing if it hit other then a low-damage knockdown. It has shorter range then his other ducking tool (2Y), so aside from situations where your opponent was in Burst Mode, it had little use.

DX solves this by giving 2X a small launch property, allowing you to follow up with 6Y or 2Y for a decent 20% (and potentially more if you hit the wall!). Whether intentional or not, this also combos after Counter Attack stuns, effectively giving Lucario a new optimal path. Mr. Fundamental is fundamentally better, no matter how you look at it.

VesperArcade analyzes Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s possible new V-Triggers

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is breathing new life into Capcom’s most popular fighting game. While so far we know that every character is getting new V-Triggers, we don’t have a clear idea yet of what they are. However, we have screenshots!

VesperArcade provides an analytical overview of the screenshots available so far of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. He starts with an image of Menat that features a Japanese city, which could possibly be a new stage. Moving on to gameplay matters, he begins by saying that we’re not sure if there will be new V-Skills as well — just new V-Triggers. Starting with Ryu, they talk about him likely having a new two-bar V-Trigger that looks like a Focus Attack. The translation of the new V-Trigger, “Kakko Fubatsu” means things like “unwavering,” “steadfast,” etc. Maybe we’ll see Evil Ryu come back?

M. Bison also has a two-bar V-Trigger. There’s a bit more speculation surrounding his new power. There’s some kind of crumble effect after hitting with it, as evidenced by the screenshot with Cammy. The video continues with looks at Rashid, Chun-Li, Birdie, R. Mika, Ken, and Dhalsim.

We also recently found out that DLC codes will be used to get the new characters for the retail version of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

Scizor shreds lifebars in Muramishi’s latest Pokkén Tournament DX combo video

In Pokkén Tournament DX, damage scaling and phase shift mechanics are Bandai Namco’s chosen methods of controlling damage output for optimal combos. Because of this, you generally see damage cap at similar numbers in Duel Phase, somewhere within the 200-230 range, before a phase shift occurs — depending upon the character at combo starter.

Scizor, Namco’s clear pitch to airdash fanatics, breaks through all of that with his “Swords Dance” subsystem, and the long air combos that come about because of them. Muramishi shows off some impressive stuff here, including a link from Scizor’s sword-buffed “Aerial Ace” and an insane Burst Mode-only 300+ combo that doesn’t consume his Burst Attack.

Gootecks and Justin Wong go over the importance of team building in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Team synergy has always been an important factor of every game in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Despite the changes to the tag system, the mechanics still require a lot of thought into how to form your team to be both effective and defensively sound.

In this video, Gootecks and Echo Fox’s Justin Wong sit down to discuss exactly that. Using his team-creation theory, Justin discusses all the important factors — including mobility, combos, and damage — that he considers when picking up Marvel. He also discusses what could potentially be an example of a bad team.

Xian talks to Channel News Asia about the struggles of becoming a professional gamer

Razer|Xian is one of the most recognizable faces in the FGC today. Having won Evo 2013 off the strength of an underappreciated character in Gen, Xian seemed to be on top of the world. According to him, however, that was only another step in his struggles.

In a recent interview with Channel News Asia, Xian talked about his drive to become a top player — which involved walking away from jobs he disdained, to winning the biggest event of the year, only to have just enough money to survive a few months afterward. He also talks of his partnership with Lenn Yang, who helped give him the finances to make it to various events before he found sponsorship in Razer.

Below is an accompanying video, which goes into additional detail.

MK_REO discusses how terrifying Injustice 2’s “background bounce” mechanic makes Brainiac

It’s a generally accepted fact that Injustice 2‘s Brainiac is a coin-flipping monster once he pins you down in the corner. With access to unreactable combo-starting options from both a 9-frame overhead and a 7-frame low, jockeying for position becomes incredibly important in order to beat the “Collector of Worlds.”

MK_REO, a NRS content creator and Method Gaming -sponsored player, observed that this isn’t enough to build a gameplan off of, when fighting Brainiac. The reason for this is because the “background bounce” mechanic allows him to setup the same unseeable, high-damage mix-up mid-screen on certain stages — which, as REO notes, is half the stage list of the game.

Become “King” of the ring with BoxeR-King’s Tekken 7 neutral guide

In most fighting games, control of the neutral is all important. It’s also a little more difficult to maintain in the backdash heavy, high-execution world of Tekken 7.

But whereas grapplers in other games might spend their time on just getting in and coin flipping, the hyper-mobile Jaguar can control the neutral with his own assortment of strong, long range pokes. Mixed in with his wave-dashing and whiff punishing capabilities, King’s neutral is just as fearsome as his Giant Swing.

GamerFinger is returning with a new revision of their silent HBFS buttons

Several years ago, Taiwanese manufacturer GamerFinger took siege of the FGC with their HBFS buttons. Their silent, mechanical switch buttons hit a unique niche in the market. Unfortunately, they weren’t without flaws: the first version saw issues with the switch tabs falling off of the buttons, and the second version saw the snap-in tabs too stiff, making them difficult to put into a case, or remove.

The third time appears to be the charm, as GamerFinger was at TWFighter Major over the weekend, showcasing their third version of the buttons, the HBFS G3. These appear to solve both issues, with standard switch tabs to connect your wiring to. They also seem to have gone a route similar to Crown’s 203C buttons, and made them both threaded and snap-ins — meaning you can choose to either snap or screw the buttons into your case.

While no public release date has been set, we’ll keep you updated on this exciting technical development.

Check out these humorous sets between Nakao’s Jubei and Garireo’s Litchi

Maybe Jubei hasn’t made as much of a splash onto the competitive scene as some players hoped, but there might still be some hope for the character. Even if he isn’t as viable, it’s good to see two pro BlazBlue: Central Fiction players duke it out in a fun set. PNS|Garireo, who recently triumphed at CEOtaku 2017, takes on Nakao’s Jubei in a best to three.

Litchi shows just how oppressive she can get in Garireo’s skilled hands. Though Nakao does make the fight look pretty even, it’s not easy at all. It’s pretty close, but Litchi edges out the win in the first set. That Astral attempt though…

In the second video, Garireo starts out dominant, and Nakao is barely able to land even a hit. The kitty cat does surmount a comeback, however. It’s definitely an uphill battle for Nakao, especially in neutral, because Litchi covers the screen so well and can confirm into good corner carry. However, Nakao shows some pretty impressive skills with Jubei.

Check out all three sets below, which are worth to watch even just to see two highly skilled players having some entertaining matches.
