Learn to fuzzy guard Red Hood’s “Going Ballistic” character power in Injustice 2

Having trouble with Red Hood’s “Going Ballistic” character power? This string can seem pretty overwhelming at first — he has low, mid, and throw options all off of the same string. On paper it’s a three-way mix-up, but in actuality there’s nothing to fear thanks to “Fuzzy Guarding.”

As NRS-dedicated content creator and pro MK_REO demonstrates, there’s a particular motion you can use to negate all three options. Depending upon the character you play, this potentially makes every single mix-up option a sudden unsafe liability for the Red Hood player.

Weapons authorized: Goomy pushes Samus to the limit in this Super Smash Bros. Melee combo video

Famous for his mastery of the incredibly difficult to perform aerial super wavedash, the hyper-technical Samus main Goomy has brought out a brand new Melee combo video. From aerial super wavedashes, uses of Samus’ extended grapple beam and some insane off-stage sequences, Goomy make Samus look nigh-on unstoppable.

At one point, Goomy is able to super wavedash to one side of Fountain of Dreams, forward tilt his opponent into a bomb on the other side of the stage and then finish them off with a Charge Shot. The sheer skill to pull off that sequence would make you think Samus herself was behind the controls. He then manages to use Samus’ grapple to phase through Pokemon Stadium and kill someone by coming up through the bottom of the stage.

Goomy is set to be at GT-X next weekend, so let’s hope he can show off his awe-inspiring Samus on stream.

BoxeR-King demonstrates the power of throwing from a crouch state with Tekken 7’s King

Part of the power of King’s Giant Swing in Tekken 7 comes from its incredible speed: it’s one of the few 10-frame startup throws in the game. Because of this, it’s a little more surprising in nature, which is a great thing for a grappler in a game with reactable throw startup.

You might think its complex input may limit where you can place Giant Swing, but Australian Tekken 7 pro BoxeR-King is here to demonstrate that there’s always time to go for a spin. The execution a little more difficult, but you can learn to execute Giant Swing from crouching postion. This allows you to use it in surprising moments like after a crouch jab, DB+3, or even after your opponent puts you in a crouching position with a move.

Double_FGC documents all changes to Braixen in Pokkén Tournament DX

The leap from Pokkén Tournament on the Wii U to Pokkén Tournament DX on the Nintendo Switch includes two versions worth of balance changes. While American players probably don’t want (or need) to dwell on the fact they missed the Arcade exclusive version 1.05, it is where many of the biggest changes in Pokkén Tournament DX originate from.

This is especially true of of the Fire Fox, Braixen. Once considered the best character in the game (an opinion boosted by a series of major wins by Evo champion Tonosama, no doubt), this powerful zoner received both heavy nerfs and interesting buffs. Double_FGC (arguably the U.S.’s best tournament Braixen pro) has made a great video demonstrating each of these changes for the meta-defining Pokémon, with footage from both the Wii U and DX versions for comparison’s sake.

MySmashCorner examines character archetypes within the Super Smash Bros. series

If you’ve played a lot of fighting games or RPGs, you will have come across the idea of character archetypes. Used by both players and designers, they act as a form of short-hand when you are describing the attributes of a certain character. The glass cannon is probably the most cited character archetype — someone who can deal massive amounts of damage, but is super fragile.

To give players tangible examples, MySmashCorner has made a helpful video which attempts to map common character archetypes onto fighters from across the Super Smash Bros. series. MySmashCorner is keen to point out that characters will often fit multiple archetypes at once, in order to make them more appealing to play. Smash also has its own archetypes along with these generic ones, like the space animal and the fastfaller.

Having multiple archetypes makes a game’s roster interesting, and it’s fun to see when designers deliberately play with an archetype to create something new. Hopefully, future Smash games will continue to experiment and make new twists on old formulae.

Get Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and a Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 together in this discounted bundle from Newegg

For those looking to get an arcade stick as well as a game to try it one at the same time, here’s an interesting deal for you. Newegg is offering a package deal for both a Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for PlayStation 4.

The Newegg package has both the Hori RAP4 and MvCI for the cost of only $149.99. This is effectively comparable to getting the stick at half the price of purchasing it separately from a new game, or getting the game free alongside the arcade stick.

The Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 is compatible with both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, alongside the PC. It comes with Hori’s Hayabusa line of arcade parts (as used in Taito’s Vewlix arcade cabinets). The specific version in the package is the black version (red, white, and blue variants also exist).

For interested buyers, Newegg is also giving the option of free shipping for the package.
