Fight of Gods’ first major tournament will be at Revolution 2017

And lo, it came to pass that the holiest of champions would wage glorious battle! Announced by Rice Digital, PQube and NGI today, Revolution 2017 will be the site of the first ever Fight of Gods tournament. You’ve seen the infinites, 100% combos and incredible jank that is possible within the confines of Training Mode — now it’s time to see it on the big stage.

The tournament will take place on Saturday 7th October, with top placers winning exclusive Fight of Gods prizes. An arcade stick blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury perhaps? Or maybe a pad made from a fragment of the True Cross? If you’re looking to prove yourself as a godlike player, Revo 2017 is the place to prove it.

Sign-ups are still available for Revolution 2017, with entry to the Fight of Gods tournament costing 30 pieces of silver £5.

21 Hits teaches how to preform Pokkén Tournament’s notoriously difficult “Edgestonish” loops for Gengar

Gengar doesn’t show up often in tournament play outside of Japan for Pokkén Tournament, and the reason for that is simple: it takes a lot of work to be a good ghost.

Far from beginner-friendly, Gengar’s main bread-and-butter combo requires not only difficult execution but a keen understanding of how Pokkén puts together combos. The trade-off, however, is that you gain access to high damage options for one of the game’s slipperiest, most difficult-to-hit characters. Armed with a number of invincible transitions and movement options, properly-played Gengar can weave around opponents and cash in his hits for big, flashy damage… assuming, of course, you’re a good enough trainer.

Mix and match fan-made Critical Arts with Street Fighter V’s Mysterious Mod

Rumors are abound concerning a potential “Super” Street Fighter V update which adds new elements to the V-System, introduces some classic characters and gives everyone on the roster a second Critical Art. While we may be waiting until December to see this update — if we see something like it at all — Street Fighter V modders have taken it upon themselves to make their own Critical Arts.

To publicize these new Critical Arts, SFV modder Killbox has created a compilation that shows the current selection of new super moves. So far, the only characters without fan-made Critical Arts are:

  • Ed
  • Rashid
  • Cammy
  • R. Mika
  • Chun-Li
  • Karin
  • Menat
  • Kolin
  • Abigail

If you are a keen Street Fighter V modder and have ideas for a Critical Art, make sure to join the Mysterious Mod Discord. So far, my favorites have to be Birdie’s rapid fire headbutt, F.A.N.G’s toxic dance, and Zangief’s helicopter lariat.

Method|REO shares Injustice 2 tier list, proposes buffs for The Joker

Method Gaming’s Giuseppe “REO” Grosso recently shared his own personal tier list for Injustice 2 over on his YouTube channel. The NRS pro’s video briefly explains the justification for each tier, though the impatient can jump to 4:26 to see the full list.

While it’s probably not unexpected to see a tier list from a pro player, what’s interesting is that REO appears to be using this list as a springboard for a new project:

In his latest video, MK_REO has announced he’ll be proposing ideas for buffs or nerfs for the cast of Injustice 2. Starting at the very bottom with The Joker, his first episode discusses Joker’s trait, why it’s not working in competitive play, and what can be done from a design standpoint to raise his viability.

Become a certified bear trainer with Hurtbox TV’s combo breakdown for Tekken 7’s Kuma

It’s easy to undersell Kuma (and Panda) in Tekken 7. The character has a larger hitbox then normal, allowing some much higher damage combos on their frame. The damage output from these bears also isn’t quite as high as it is with some other members of the cast. What’s the justification for playing as them, then?

Some of Kuma’s combo starting tools have mighty hitboxes and, in some cases, not a tremendous amount of risk. Some great examples of this are F+1+2 (-12) and Kuma’s Uf+3,4 hopkick (-11). Kuma also has some great counter-hit fishing tools, such as  SS+1+2 and easy to hit confirm DF+1,2,1,2.

Prepare for Samurai Shodown V Special’s release with this special combat guide

Sharpen your sword and get that hakama washed, as Samurai Shodown V Special launches on PS4 and PS Vita tomorrow. If you’re new to SNK’s feudal fighter or need to refresh your memory on SSVS’ mechanics, the European PlayStation Blog has released a helpful combat guide to bring you up to speed.

Along with Deflects and Blade Catches which can help you turn your opponent’s momentum against them, Samurai Shodown V Special allows players to commit suicide if they are losing a round. While this may seem useless at first, it can be used tactically so you can go into the next round with a full Rage meter.

Samurai Shodown V Special is a Cross-Buy and Cross-Play game, meaning you can play it both at home on your PS4 and then take it on the road with your Vita. If you’re a PS Plus member, SSVS is also 20% off if you buy within its launch week.

Alt Lab demonstrates the latest build of their Smash Stick

Back in April, we ran a story on Alt Lab’s prototype for an arcade stick-style controller for Super Smash Bros. The controller that was shown was still an obvious prototype, built on the case of an old HORI Real Arcade Pro 3, but still demonstrated the concept’s potential: pairing an analog joystick lever with a custom ergonomic button layout.

Now, Alt Lab has released a new video demonstration with a “beta” version of the Smash Stick, now in its own casing. The video once again demonstrates how the controller works, with an analog lever that uses Hall effect sensors for accuracy. This new build however has an revised “Home Row” button layout that’s been adjusted a bit more so as to further prevent hand and wrist injuries.

The latter is arguably the most important feature of the Smash Stick, as Alt Lab’s goal is to provide an alternate means of control without providing the controversial surgical precision that all-button controllers, such as the Smash Box and B0XX, supposedly provide.

Alt Lab’s hope is that the Smash Stick will be made legal, so that it can provide players with wrist and hand injuries a means to play Smash. This is something that hits close to home as Alt Lab founders TheBlackHombre and Broasty both have hand injuries, the former has De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis while the latter suffers from a combination of Carpal Tunnel syndrome and Cubital Tunnel syndrome.
