Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite producers talk about Story Mode, Thanos, and flashy team combos

With Gamescom hoping to reveal loads more about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Capcom have released a quick interview ahead of the show to talk about the game’s Story Mode, the return of mad titan Thanos, and the flashiest team combos that they have seen so far.

The Story Mode demo that was released during E3 is the first 25 minutes of the game, with it introducing all of the core cast, main villain Ultron-Sigma, and Thanos himself. As you can imagine, Thanos is a reluctant ally of the Marvel and Capcom heroes, so expect him to double-cross you sometime during Story Mode.

According to producer Mike Evans, the flashiest team in the current build of MvC:I is Dante and Gamora, thanks to their massive movesets and ability to mix up your opponent eight ways to Sunday. Assistant producer Peter “ComboFiend” Rosas also picked Dante, but paired him with machine maniac Ultron, because of his fly-unfly combos.

They also briefly discussed adding Yoshinori Ono as a playable character, with Blanka acting as a Groot-like assist during his Hyper Combos. He even glides past the camera when he’s mentioned by the producers — someone must have him as their Assist.

ARIKA reveals Allen Snider as the latest character for the ARIKA EX project

ARIKA unveiled their latest character for the (as of yet untitled) spiritual successor to Fighting Layer and Street Fighter EX series: the star-spangled ginger, Allen Snider.

The American freestyle fighter was sadly not ready in time for the nearly 2-hour steam on Daigo Umehara’s BeasTV show. However, the developers promise they will have game play footage of Allen ready by next month. Its purely speculation, but Allen will likely retain his shoto-esque style. Personally, I await the return of Justice Fist.

Another reveal from the Q&A livestream is that ARIKA is currently only developing a PlayStation 4 version. Their stated reason is that they do not, as a small developer, have the resources to create a PC version. Perhaps if the ARIKA fighter does well, they will be able to provide a port of this much-hyped fighter.

New Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 patch adds story content, fixes bugs

Console owners of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 should find a nice surprise waiting for them, if they haven’t started their game recently. There’s a new patch for REV 2, so PlayStation 3 and 4 users can upgrade their games to see some new content and bug fixes.

According to the Japanese Arc System Works website, PC/Steam users have to wait a little longer for the patch. GREATFERNMAN has kindly translated the notes. The main addition to the game is After Story C, which is an additional episode available to those who cleared the sequential story content in the game. Finishing C also unlocks new figures in Digital Figure, and there are new entries in the GG World encyclopedia.

Here’s the translated list of bug fixes, with additional comments by the translator:

Bug Fixes
Online:
Fixed a bug where PS4 online matches would terminate unexpectedly.
Fixed a bug where, when starting Combo Mode from the Online Lobby or a Player Match Room, the character select screen would not show up and Combo Mode would not start normally.
Battle Related Bug Fixes
Zato:
Fixed a bug where the puddle set by Eddie H was invulnerable.
I-no:
Fixed a bug where I-no could do a regular airdash (not the downward one) from 663.
Ramlethal:
Reduced the time available to follow up after landing a regular throw on Baiken.
Leo:
Fixed a bug where Leo continued reflecting projectiles even after stance counter’s action has been altered (counter YRC still reflecting)
Made it so that Leo does not swap places with grounded opponents while in crumple state.
Johnny:
Fixed a bug where a low air throw would leave the opponent in grounded hitstun.
Kum:
Once 623[K] has left the ground, it cannot be cancelled into 623K~4 any longer.
If 623[K] is still on the ground it can be cancelled into 623K~4 regardless if on whiff or not/
(Double Shiinken is still possible, cancelling landing from 623[K] into 623K~4 was specifically removed.).
Raven:
Fixed a bug where Raven would not lose excitement meter after a whiffed S command grab.
Fixed a bug where the slow from 236P and j.236P/K would not go away.

Answer:
Fixed a bug where Answer would sometimes cling to the wrong position instead of the scroll.

Reminder: Capcom has included costume Easter eggs in Street Fighter V’s newest premium outfits

Last year, we were greeted with an Easter egg code to get the classic Urien thong costume in Street Fighter V, and another for the swimsuit costumes. By pressing all three punches, light kick, and holding up at the same time (LP+MP+HP+LK+⇑), the costume can be altered before/between rounds. The changes also existed with Chun-Li’s and Cammy’s Capcom Pro Tour costumes from last season, as well as Necalli’s CPT outfit and Akuma’s nostalgia costume.

Just in case you hadn’t tried it yet, Capcom has continued this trend, and the same Easter egg works on various new costumes. It affects last year’s Christmas and Halloween outfits, as well as the new Capcom Pro Tour outfits, sports, professional, school, and nostalgia costumes. Doing this with Alex grants you a bomber jacket to go with his classic outfit. NuckleDu’s costume for Guile in the Capcom Pro Tour pack removes his backpack, and dons a skull bandanna over his mouth. If you have any premium costumes, jump into training mode and try them out with the code to see what changes!

Check out Sabrewulf’s Ultimate in Killer Instinct Season 3

With another week passing by, the countdown to the release of the free Ultimates Monster Pack for Killer Instinct on August 22nd continues. As usual, the Killer Instinct YouTube channel has uploaded another of the Ultimates set to be released to all players later this month. After taking a look at Aganos’s and Mira’s the last two weeks, the spotlight now falls upon Sabrewulf.

Seemingly losing control and giving into his feral impulses, Sabrewulf pounces on his opponent, assaulting them with a series of slashes — similar to Wolverine’s Berserker Barrage X in the Marvel vs. Capcom series — slaughtering his foe before savagely glaring at the screen, as his victim’s lifeless body lies behind him. You can see the Ultimate for yourself below.

Be on the lookout over the next two weeks for the Ultimates for Hisako and Glacius. What are your thoughts on this Ultimate? Do you think it’s fitting for Sabrewulf? Let us know in the comments.

Killer Instinct is currently available for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, with details on a future Steam release forthcoming.

Viennality 2017 results

This past weekend, some of the world’s finest Injustice 2 players journeyed to Vienna, Austria for the latest stop in the 2017 Injustice 2 Pro Series, as Viennality returned for the second year in a row. A European Premiere Event, with a $20,000 pot on the line attracted 63 of the best DC warriors from Europe and America, along with other regions, as players looked to solidify their place in the Pro Series Finals on September 17th. This was also the first IPS event since the August 2017 balance patch, which could certainly shake up the rankings and character variety a bit. However, this wasn’t the only title being played, as the event also played host to tournaments for Mortal Kombat XL, Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, which each received a €500 pot bonus.

Bandai Namco wants your feedback on Tekken 7 through their online survey

If you have strong opinions for (or against) Bandai Namco’s latest 3D fighter Tekken 7, they want to hear them. As reported by Tekkengamer.com, Namco is conducting a questionnaire that asks for your feedback on its current content, future content, and what you’d like to see improved in the game.

It’s not just multiple choice bubbles, either — if you have a rant for Namco, there’s a field near the end for you to go at it. This is a great opportunity to voice your praise of Geese‘s inclusion, or your disdain for native input lag.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s closed beta runs from August 26th to September 4th

  • Bartz Klauser (Final Fantasy V)

Players from the Americas can sign up here, while Europeans should use this link.

ARMS datamining reveals removed stage, new minigame, and hints of future DLC characters

Prior to the release of its latest fighting game, ARMS, Nintendo announced that all future DLC would be free. In response, dataminers GoldFlame and Eizak have picked through ARMS’ files to see what the future may hold for Nintendo’s DLC plans.

What they uncovered are references to a scrapped stage called “Crank,” a fully modeled-out and unused minigame called “Sighting,” and a series of parameter files for characters in the game. Many of the files present reference the weapons or themes of currently existing characters… but not all of them.

  • Chain
  • Coil
  • Plant
  • Robo
  • Scroll
  • Sumo
  • Surprise
  • Sweet
  • Twintale

While it’s possible some of these are simply older models of existing characters (Twintale, Coil, Robo) others in this list have no correlation to any currently existing character (Sweet, Plant, Surprise).

The files referenced don’t point to data that exists on the disc, so we don’t know much else beyond this. You can find more information on the methodology used to discover this data in the source link below, and in the interview video above with Eizak.

Ghost Rider revealed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite; Gameplay to be shown at Gamescom

Break out your chains and rev up your bikes with a dose of hellfire, as Ghost Rider has just been confirmed to be joining the cast of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. We’ve previously been reporting about the series of special MVC:I variant covers coming to various issues of Marvel’s August 2017 comic lineup, featuring several Marvel and Capcom characters duking it out. Earlier today, the Marvel vs. Capcom Facebook page officially revealed the final cover in the series, a variant for The Defenders #4, featuring Morrigan facing off with the yet-to-be-revealed Ghost Rider. The page also notes that the “Spirit Of Vengeance” will have his gameplay revealed at Gamecom 2017 in Cologne, Germany, on August 22nd, alongside fellow returnees Dormammu and Firebrand. We’re also likely to see a proper reveal for Jedah Dohma, the Soul Infinity Stone, and perhaps a Demon Village/Dark Dimension-hybrid stage as well.

You can check out the variant cover below, as well as the Thanos cover, which sees the Mad Titan battling the “Distressed Lord of Death,” and the Black Panther cover, which features T’Challa going one-on-one with Ryu.
