Relive Combo Breaker’s Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 top 8, the culmination of the biggest REV 2 tournament so far

This year’s Combo Breaker in St. Charles, IL, was memorable for many reasons. Not only did it comfortably house nearly every competitive game you’d like to play, but it also fit in more Guilty Gear participants than any tournament this year so far. As essentially the premiere tournament for REV 2 in the United States, this is the biggest event yet for the recently-published console update.

Alongside explanatory English commentary to continue bringing you up on the novelties of the latest version, enjoy a good variety of characters in this top 8. There’s a bunch of sponsored players competing, with some impressive members of the community. BxA|dotNova’s Jack’O is up first against daymendou’s Slayer. That’s followed up by previous Guilty Gear Combo Breaker champion ElvenShadow and his Faust, fighting Xcel|BjornSonOfBear’s renowned Chipp Zanuff. Make sure to not miss out on the hype match between PG|MarlinPie’s excellent Zato=1 versus Foo’s Kum Haehyun, a rarely-seen character that’s proving stronger thanks to some buffs.

And finally, take notice of how solid Fable|Kizzie Kay’s Sin is, but note also CO|Dogura’s rise through the Losers bracket with his new and improved Raven.

Yahoo! Esports recounts Nairo’s Super Smash Bros. legacy, ahead of 2GGC: Nairo Saga

With 2GGC: Nairo Saga happening this weekend, Yahoo! Esports have created a short documentary to commemorate NRG|Nairo’s legacy. Cutting his teeth in Super Smash Bros. Brawl alongside players like C9|Ally, TSM|ZeRo and IMT|ANTi, Nairo has been famous for his relentless offense and ability to kill an opponent seemingly off of one hit.

The release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U saw Nairo handing in the sword and cape of Meta Knight for Zero Suit Samus’ plasma pistol. Now, Nairo is widely regarded as the world’s best ZSS player, with his aggressive playstyle working perfectly with ZSS’s amazing burst damage potential. He’s no one-trick pony though, as Nairo is famous for pulling out other characters to win the day. His Bowser is infamous for stealing sets off players who should really know the match-up.

The documentary not only talks to Nairo, but to other members of the Smash community who have a history with him. He has quite the mountain to climb if he wants to finally break the 2GG Saga Curse this weekend, so tune in to see if Nairo can finally do it.

Get the basics of backdashing down with this Tekken 7 movement guide

It’s a long road down to perfect movement mastery in Tekken. Virtua Fighter player rooflemonger himself admits as much in his latest video: “It’s a very deep ocean. You have to work a lot harder for your backdash than other 3D fighters.”

He is, of course, referring to the Korean Backdash, a technique perhaps too overwhelming for a first time Tekken player. rooflemonger’s movement guide gives a very brief, quick explanation of how dashing while standing and sidestep canceling works. For beginners, this is a great place to start — especially if you want to learn to improve your backdash speed quickly, even though you’re not ready to do the KBD yet.

Being a top player in any fighting game is a tim- consuming effort. To be able to maintain that level of play requires a lot of dedication, hours of practice, and even more hours on the road traveling. With this in mind, it can be daunting to even think of finding time for friends and family.

Upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 patch adds more story content, fixes bugs

It looks like the Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 story isn’t quite done telling what it wanted to. Since in-game the new content is called “After Story A,” it seems to have suggested that at some point, there will be “After Story B,” — and that’s indeed the case. Today, a patch launched on Japanese versions of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 for PlayStation 3 and 4, with Steam’s coming at a later date.

Arc System Works tweeted some screenshots, which show members of the Assassin’s Guild talking. Given that “After Story A” mainly focuses on the Kiske family, Story B might focus on those characters who didn’t previously enjoy as much spotlight.

Other than that, the patch fixes a few bugs in various modes and misspellings. As of yet, Arc System Works has not stated anything about a patch for the English versions of the game.

NurseLee examines Ryu’s wakeup options after Jodan Nirengeki Crush Counters in Street Fighter V

Ryu’s Jodan Nirengeki target combo (st.HP, HK) is not generally considered the strongest option in his move-list. The HK whiffs crouchers, leaving most players to simply use st.HP by itself to crush counter. NurseLee, however, sees potential beyond just the damage output of this string.

After the knockdown, by using Ryu’s Solar Plexus Strike (f.HP) after a dash, you can safely option select nearly every back tech/no tech option your opponent can pull out. NurseLee’s video demonstrates the setup, spacing, and frame data behind these setups to make your Ryu a rushdown monster.

The Cool Kid93 talks to Michael Martin at Yahoo! Esports about his path to the Red Bull Proving Grounds

Marcus “The Cool Kid93” Redmond made a recent appearance on Michael Martin’s “Conversations and Fireballs&#8221$$ fresh off his June 3rd win over Brian_F at Mix-up Monthly #4 in Chicago, Redmond shoots on Alex, Red Bull Proving Grounds, his #1 fan, and more.

There’s some interesting insight to his origin: Originally a ragequitter on Xbox Live (his words!), The Cool Kid has remained dedicated to his passions and chilled considerably on his path to professional. He also seems optimistic about the future of his favorite character, Alex, even if the character is not quite as strong as he’d like to see.
