Downloading combos.doc: ROB’s combos & neutral game in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

While having strong aerials, a decent kill confirm off of a grab, and some super gimmicky combos using footstools and his Gyro, ROB is a character you don’t often see in competitive Smash 4 play. Hoping to show players some of the tools ROB has stored in its memory banks, MySmashCorner has created a comprehensive combo guide, showing off some of the tricks this robot can pull off. He has also teamed up the best ROB in the USA, Fable|8BitMan to get some insight on ROB’s strengths and weaknesses at the highest levels of play.

ROB is best played defensively according to 8BitMan, as all of ROB’s aerials are unsafe on shield. Approaching with ROB requires to players to act as a constantly moving wall of projectiles, mixing in lasers and Gyros to break down an enemy’s defenses so you can land a grab or an aerial. ROB’s n-air is the best option for landing, due to its large hitbox, but beware that it does leave ROB open if it hits on shield. You generally need to play ROB as a bait-and-punish character, as going in will just see him thrown on the scrap heap.

Understand the magic behind Xian’s tricky Ibuki mixup from ELEAGUE’s Street Fighter V Invitational

For those of you who saw Razer’s Kun Xian Ho playing at ELEAGUE’s Street Fighter V invitational last week, you may have noticed that he was using a deceptively simply-looking but effective mix-up with Ibuki. Specifically, he debuted the mix-up in his match against Joshua “Wolfkrone” Philpot.

Xian’s mix-up caught Wolfkrone twice in a row at one point; as Way of the Scrub points out in their new video, the key to whether Ibuki is in front or behind her opponent depends on whether on not Xian adds a very small delay before he hits her air jab to air forward kick target combo. If he doesn’t delay, then Ibuki will be in front, if he does add the slight delay however, then she’ll appear behind his opponent.

Prepare for every battle to define you with the Injustice 2 launch trailer

After nearly a year of anticipation, the sequel to NetherRealm Studios’ DC comics fighter, Injustice 2, finally drops tomorrow for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In celebration, NRS has released the game’s official launch trailer!

In it, we see a few more glimpses of Story mode; as Brainiac’s invasion of Earth begins, The Society–as well as the Regime and Insurgency remnants–wage a 3-way battle for power, control, and supremacy. With the largest roster in NRS history, an expansive Story mode with multiple branching pathways, the endless customization options of the Gear System, as well as the ever-changing Multiverse mode… there’s certainly plenty to unpack with this latest title. In addition, NRS and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced several competitive initiatives, to push the game heavily as an esport, with the GameStop Hometown Heroes circuit, the Injustice 2 Championship Series, and Stream.Me’s online “War of the Gods,” there are plenty of chances worldwide for heroes and villains to suit up and join the fight.

In addition, GameStop has released a hilarious “Tag Out” trailer to promote pre-order bonus character Darkseid, showing that many members of the cast want absolutely nothing to do with the God of Apokolips.

If playing on the go is more your speed, the Mobile version of Injustice 2 is out now for both iOS and Android devices. How will “every battle define you” once Injustice 2 releases? Let us know in the comments.

The Big House 7 moves from Dearborn to the Cobo Center in Detroit, running from October 6th-8th

As the premier autumn event in the Super Smash Bros. calendar, The Big House 7 is going large for this year’s event. Announced via a trailer at Royal Flush this past weekend, the Midwestern tournament is moving from its usual venue in Dearborn, Michigan to the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. That’s right, The Big House is truly going big for 2017.

Registration isn’t available just yet, but expect singles and doubles for both Melee and Smash 4, along with some regional crew battles to settle some international scores. For Melee, Mango is the current Big House champion, taking three titles compared to Armada’s two. In Smash 4, ZeRo reigns supreme, having won both Big Houses where Smash 4 has been present. With the amount of talent nipping at his heels nowadays, we may see someone stopping his Big House three-peat.

UltraDavid explains the unique hit-stun properties of Injustice 2

Are you new to NetherRealm Studios games? Injustice 2’s release means lots of new players are trying NRS style games for the first time. More then likely, you’ll want to try and apply what you know to this game. Be careful! Because frame data, particularly hit stun, works quite differently in these games.

In NRS games, opponents can still block and throw tech during hit stun, but no other options. As UltraDavid demonstrates, the idea of a link is very different in an NRS game. “Links” only happen in these types of games from a specific hit stun (Capture states) or from canceling strings. Make sure you understand this as you go on your NRS journey!

Street Fighter V & Super Smash Bros. currently lead the registration turnout for Evolution 2017

Meanwhile, The King of Fighters XIV currently has the lowest number of registered players.

As we get closer and closer to Evo 2017, the present “leaderboard” for event registration has been shared–and for the most part the results are what one would expect: generally consistent with 2016’s closing numbers, and reflective of each game’s overall popularity:

  1. Street Fighter V
  2. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  3. Super Smash Bros. Melee
  4. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
  5. Tekken 7
  6. Injustice 2
  7. BlazBlue: Central Fiction
  8. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  9. The King of Fighters XIV

Street Fighter V already has a substantial lead, with the two Smash titles finishing the top three, for now. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is currently in the 4th spot–but Tekken 7 and Injustice 2 are possible contenders to overtake it as they get into the hands of the gaming public! The Player’s Choice winner Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is presently only in 8th place for its Evo swan song; and newcomer The King of Fighters XIV could use some more love, sitting back in last place.

Of course, we’ve still got about two months for this list to get shaken up a bit with new sign-ups. Registration is still open for Evo 2017 through smash.gg–and you can join additional games after your initial registration too, so get in there and support your favorite titles!

Evo 2017 takes place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 14-16, 2017.

Get On My Level returns for 2017, running from July 28th-30th at the International Center in Mississauga

Last year’s Get On My Level was full of landmark moments. None being the first Captain Falcon in a decade to defeat Mew2King, Ally winning his first Super Smash Bros. for Wii U major and defeating ZeRo in the process, and Leffen reminding the world of his talent by winning Melee singles. It was a fantastic opener for the 2016 Summer of Smash and one tournament that people won’t soon forget.

Hoping to build on that hype, Get On My Level is returning in 2017 with events for Super Smash Bros. 64, Melee, Smash 4 and Brawl. Rather than opening the Summer of Smash, GOML 2017 is now appearing during the height of the season, running from July 28th to 30th at the International Center in Mississauga, Ontario. Held two weeks after Evo, it looks to be one stacked event.

Registration is now open on the GOML 2017 smash.gg page, with early bird pricing running until May 31st. After that point, venue fee will go up from $45 to $55 until June 30th. There will be more announcements as we get closer to the event, so stay tuned to the tournament page for more info.

8WR|Mezza shows off Sceptile Debuff + Meter Steal combos for Pokkén Tournament

In Pokkén Tournament, Sceptile is one of the most combo-video friendly characters thanks to his jump cancels and wall resplats. There’s a lot of different routes he can take to get big optimal damage once he has his enemy pinned in the corner.

“Optimal” , however, is kind of a slippery word in Pokkén, particularly when Phase Shift points could suddenly cut off your combo. Luckily, damage isn’t the only thing Sceptile has going for him! Because of his many cancels, he can link into various supports, allowing him to also drain opponent’s super and apply status debuffs.

And if you pay attention to your Phase Shift points, you can still break 200 damage, get your debuffs in, and setup a trap on your opponent’s wakeup.

You can still break 200, apply a debuff, and not use an assist…

…and if you’ve got all your Phase Shift points to work with and Yvetal on deck, you can get nearly 300 with this wall combo.

All in one combo he gets damage, status effects, dash cancels, jump cancels, command grab synergy stealing, and combos in and out of assist. Few characters get to do so much with the system mechanics of Pokkén quite like Sceptile.

The_Cool_Kid_93 analyzes Alex’s changes from the second CFN beta for Street Fighter V

With everyone getting a chance to mess around with the long awaited balance changes coming to Street Fighter V with the second CFN beta, character specialists have been working hard to see if their character will improve with the upcoming patch. Dedicated Alex main The_Cool_Kid_93 has been toiling away in the lab over this past weekend, gathering all the data he can about the New York grappler.

Overall, Cool_Kid determines that Alex is indeed better following the proposed balance changes. Alex’s health has been buffed to 1025, his V-Skill is faster so you can potentially get two arm spins in after a stun and his Slash Elbow is now safe on block. The elbow is also quicker, meaning Alex can essentially loop his Slash Elbow on opponents trying to jump away.

Many of his medium normals are faster too, but Cool_Kid is still concerned about Alex’s ability to deal with pressure once someone gains momentum. His sub-par V-Reversal and lack of a three frame jab means he struggles to shake someone off once they get in his face. While his oki game is still weak according to Cool_Kid, he feels that it is much more enjoyable version of the character compared to at the start of Season 2.
