MK_REO demonstrates the cross-up power of Supergirl’s F+3 in Injustice 2

NRS-dedicated content creator MK_REO has put together a quick demonstration on how to apply Supergirl’s F+3 in Injustice 2 in knockdown situations.

Supergirl’s big overhead can be manually controlled during the rising animation. Since the character has several ways to land a hard knockdown (many of which are combo-enders!), this means she can constantly apply which-way coin flips on opponents. The move is safe on block, and it can also be charged to beat delayed wakeup timings. Players that love themselves some vortex heavy game-play should consider trying out the Kryptonian Warrior for this reason alone.

Rising Up: Ed bread and butter combo guide — Punishes, confirm combos, juggles, & more

Ed–the replacement body for M.Bison created by S.I.N. and abducted by Balrog–has made his playable debut in Street Fighter V. His special move inputs and basic gameplay style are unlike anything yet seen in the series. Nevertheless, I’ve done my best to compile the optimal combos for every common scenario, so you can stop worrying about damage optimization and focus on strategy. This video features anti-airs, punishes, confirms, counter-hit combos, crush counter combos, juggles, and more. This version of Ed is the one included in the ongoing beta, so all of these combos should work for you there–but Ed may yet see changes prior to his official release, and if so, I’ll update this video.

This is not the full Ed tutorial I’m working on, but rather simply a guide to his basic optimal combo routes. The combos are all my own labwork, alongside a few things I’ve observed from other players. I’m fairly confident that most of these combos are ideal, but I wholeheartedly encourage anyone watching to note further possible optimizations in the comments, for both me and the other players, so that I can amend it into the final video when it comes out.

I’m currently waiting on the “Season 2.5” patch, but once it releases, I’ll return to uploading full character tutorials every week on ShoryukenTube, the Shoryuken.com YouTube channel. If the rebalance is significant, I might do more videos demonstrating season 2 changes. All guides from here on out will reflect season 2 changes, and I’ll soon amend all the guides that are already out. There’s a lot of content on the horizon, so you’ll want to subscribe to the channel!

Playergodaines shares K’ Combos for King of Fighters XIV version 2.01

Wanna pick up King of Fighter’s K’ after the buffs he received in 2.0? Playergodaines’s combo tutorial should get you up to speed!

The most noteworthy change to his combos is fasted speed on his “Knee Assault”, executed with f+B. This active hitbox change allows him to use it in new ways in corner juggles with Max Mode. It adds a little bit more variety to execution for K’ and pushes his damage just a little bit more. He actually received other buffs to- for example, invincibility on his climax super, “Hyper Chain Drive”.

If you weren’t sure if you wanted to play him before, give the latest K’ model a try!

New Challenger TV shares 4th episode of “Beginner Breakdowns” analysis series for Street Fighter V

New Challenger TV’s “Beginner Breakdowns” series takes fan-submitted footage from online games, usually from Bronze and Silver, and analyzes the play.

Hosted by Encore41 and JZA, this particular episode breaks down footage from the loser’s finals of their Discord’s online tournament series. The matches covered includes footage of common characters that tend to give all skill levels trouble: Guile, Ibuki, and Balrog. This is a valuable resource for those unsure of how to approach these match-ups, and the (very large) Discord itself is a great place for new players to get feedback as they begin their Street Fighter V journey.

Answer me this: figuring out set-ups with Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2’s Business Ninja

One of the new additions to Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, Answer, is proving to be a handful. With so many mix-up options, the quirky Business Ninja can inflict a headache on an unsuspecting opponent, but only if the player has explored Answer’s plethora of set-ups.

GodPress has been busy compiling excellent tutorial videos which show a lot of in-depth aspects of the character. Check out some of the selections below to learn more about what Answer has in store.

Here’s a combo into a knockdown which leads into a cross-up, followed by a damaging combo:

Exploring some corner cross-ups:

Beware jD counter-hits from Answer, as it confirms into a ton of damage:

Here are some pressure strings in the corner to build up the opponent’s RISC gauge, to then lead into huge damage. Very dangerous for the opponent if they don’t use Faultless Defense. GodPress provides explanatory notes and notation in the video below.

A really good video that shows how to “safe jump” and bypass practically every defensive/wake-up option that Sol Badguy has. Again, read the text in the video for more explanation:

Here’s one that probably many would like master: Answer’s super-jump instant air-dash combos. This compilation shows which characters it works on:

This is just a sampling from GodPress’s work, so make sure to explore the rest of their channel for even more Answer tech.

Also, don’t forget about SRK’s Day One Answer guide to get a better grasp on Answer basics. Are you picking up the Business Ninja in REV 2?

How to beat Faust: find strategy in the randomness of this Guilty Gear Xrd match-up with LordKnight

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-‘s Faust is designed to be the wackiest, zaniest character in the cast. An abnormal hurtbox coupled with surprisingly big normal attacks and random items. How do you fight someone who can summon a meteor shower if they get lucky, teleport by opening dimensional doors, and hit you from the ground up with a sunflower?

LordKnight starts his match-up guide with a quick definition of Faust. He explains a common misconception about Faust, who is often considered more of a zoning character due to his range and projectiles. However, Faust has plenty of rushdown and unpredictable mix-up options, which make him especially scary up close. LordKnight goes through his normal attacks, which are designed to control specific spaces. Then he moves on to explaining the properties of Faust’s repertoire of special items.

Whether you have trouble with Faust or are generally unfamiliar with the character, this is a great tutorial to gain some knowledge, which is also quite relevant for REV 2. Hopefully, that will ease the match-up a little bit. Or, I don’t know, just pick Sin.

If you’re more of a reader or want to save these notes on the go, check out the Faust match-up write-up on Evernote.

Learn to play Dhalsim competitively with Burnout in this episode of Yahoo Esports’ Tech Hit

Dhalsim may be one of the harder characters to play at a competitive level in Street Fighter V. His zoning based playstyle seems at odds with how the game itself wants you to play, and he has to take a lot of risks by getting up close and deal maximum damage.

In this new episode of Yahoo Esports’s Tech Hit, Michael Martin sits down with Xsplit’s Kevin “Burnout” Kim who talks to him about what it takes to bring Dhalsim into a tournament. In the video below, Burnout talks a lot about the mentality a player needs to play competitively, including how to go beyond just trying to keep away and start rushing down with Dhalsim, and using his new tools to allow him to play offensively and win games.

In addition to this, he also talks about Dhalsim’s tournament representation and the challenges and even advantages of picking the character in a tournament.

FGpop shares more Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers combos, including a Moku/Marisa Touch of Death

The people that play Touhou games are wildly dedicated to the franchise they love. It’s probably no surprise then that merely days after a difficult-to-obtain demo for the Marvel-esque Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers was released, we’ve got incredibly high damage combo videos showing up in our tip-box here at SRK.

FGpop has shared with us two combo videos from the demo. The first one is innocuous enough, showing off the combo potential of the series’s new tag mechanic.

…but with the right resources an positioning, this Mokou/Marisa combo truly inherits the spirit of Marvel.  How common 100%s will be int he final build is obviously anyone’s guess, but if this is showing up in the demo this early, there’s obviously more to be found in the future.

And rest assured, Touhou fans will find it.

Winterfox release Gustavo “801_Strider” Romero and Miky “Samurai” Chea

In a surprise announcement, Winterfox have released both Gustavo “801_Strider” Romero and Miky “Samurai” Chea from their roster. First reported by Yahoo Esports, both players have “allegedly received better offers” from other teams and Winterfox can no longer hold onto both of them.

In a statement given to Yahoo Esports, 801_Strider said that it was a “pleasure of working side by side with some of the most honest, trustworthy individuals” at Winterfox and he wishes “them the best in their future”. He is now “looking forward to the rest of the CPT season as he pursues other options”. As a bit of a late bloomer for Street Fighter V, 801_Strider has seen greater success in 2017, gaining fifth at both Final Round and West Coast Warzone with his Laura.

As for Samurai, he joined Winterfox following Red Bull Battle Grounds and his success in the NA Online Qualifiers for the Capcom Pro Tour. In regards to his departure, Samurai stated that “it has been a great opportunity” to be a part of Winterfox and that he wanted “to thank [the team] from the bottom of [his] heart” for their support”.

It is unclear whether Winterfox will add more players to their fighting game division in the near future. Both Samurai and 801_Strider are scheduled to attend Combo Breaker later in May, so expect details of their new teams to come out ahead of the tournament.
