Christie confirmed for Dead Or Alive 6 at Paris Games Week

She puts the “sin” in assassin

Another series veteran was confirmed for Dead Or Alive 6 at Paris Games Week.  The “She Quan assassin” Christie was confirmed today at the event.

A screenshot of Christie was shared by Koch Media that was later confirmed by KOEI Tecmo Europe. The photo, which you can see in Koch Media’s tweet, shows off her new outfit for Dead Or Alive 6 as well as a new stage.

A veteran of the series since Dead Or Alive 3, Christie is an assassin who uses her She Quan style to deliver fast strikes and deadly mixups.  These tools made her a strong character throughout Dead Or Alive 5‘s various iterations, making her a familiar sight in tournaments.

KOEI Tecmo Europe has confirmed that a trailer for her would be coming soon, so stay locked on to Shoryuken for that and more fighting game news.

Dead Or Alive 6 arrives on PlayStation 4, PC, and XBox One on February 15, 2018.

Patrick Miller breaks down how to improve in fighting games through your replays

Patrick Miller, author of the excellent From Masher to Master strategy ebook, has a knack for identifying broad ways in which a player can improve in fighting games. Such is the case when a viewer asked him about how to improve via watching your own replays — and though Patrick’s answer cites specific examples within Guilty Gear Xrd, his way of thinking is universally useful.

Patrick regularly uploads gems like these, but we figured this no-nonsense framing of what a fighting game match actually is would be particularly insightful for players struggling to move up ranks. If you enjoyed this, check out his YouTube channel for more theoretical dissections.

Learn how to do one of King’s most difficult techniques in Tekken 7: Wavedash Instant Shining Wizard

One of the reasons that King is such a popular character in the Tekken 7 series is because players have, over the years, built up a massive reservoir of tech for the character that keeps carrying over to new games. While some of it is more difficult than other, there’s perhaps one technique that is the holy grail of Luchador execution – Wavedash Instant Shining Wizard.

Combining everything you know from wavedashing and iSW — two difficult techniques on their own — BoxeR-King shows us how to put these past lessons together into a horrifying new weapon.

SoulCalibur VI Post-Release Video Review

As you may have noticed, SRK is moving into the arena of video reviews to accompany our articles. This has been the case with a number of our most recent reviews, but I wanted to give our review for SoulCalibur VI a slight twist.

Since we’ve already covered SCVI exhaustively in two pre-release editorials, I figured it would be more helpful to do a post-release review that captured my thoughts now that they’ve incubated a bit. If you wanted a more immediate reaction sort of breakdown, I highly encourage you to read the previous editorials on this game, both for its competitive and casual aspects.

Street Fighter IV: Omega Mode — Guile & Chun-Li analysis videos

In light of Ultra Street Fighter IV‘s inclusion in digital pre-orders of the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, I’ve decided to dedicate some time to examining the most slept-on online-capable Street Fighter title: Street Fighter IV: Omega Mode. Packaged as a free alternate version within the edition select of USFIV, Omega uses leftover game files, recycled taunts, and repurposed animations to completely change each character’s toolset; it’s essentially a completely new and unique Street Fighter title built within SFIV’s engine, with an entirely different balance philosophy than Ultra.

Omega was not popular at release due to some easy infinite combos — not to mention players’ interest in Ultra as a more serious, competitive game. I personally think Omega went woefully unexplored for being an extremely interesting venture, and I’ve started a series where I document each character’s Omega changes, and then show off some basic optimal combos.

This week I’m looking at Guile and Chun-Li. Guile was given two new special moves, both with motion commands, which significantly alter his basic combo routes. One is an unsafe double kick that mostly operates as a combo ender, while the other is Remy’s Cold Blue Kick from Street Fighter III. His EX Sonic Boom can be thrown three times as a reference to Nash’s Sonic Break super, which later appears in SFV as Guile’s V-Trigger I. Overall Guile’s new specials do little to annul his original two, and between his EX Boom and his plethora of juggles from a Flash Kick, it’s clear this version of Guile was a testing ground for the one that would eventually show up in SFV.

Omega Chun-Li has more in common with the Chun-Li that showed up in the pre-release versions of SFV, with a crouching fierce that only cancels into EX moves and a jump-cancelable throwback to her 3rd Strike Hoyokusen Super Art. Her fireballs now have a motion command, allowing her a much greater capacity to walk around while zoning than her Ultra version. She also has what is probably the fairest divekick that Capcom has ever created. The execution on her lightning legs has been mitigated somewhat, paving the way for the motion legs she would eventually receive in SFV. Overall she’s a bit more well-rounded and easier to play, as is typical for Omega characters.

Click here for a playlist of all Street Fighter IV: Omega videos I’ve released thus far. I’ll add future videos to this playlist as I finish them.

I plan to go through the entire roster over time, so subscribe to the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel if you don’t want to miss out!

SoulCalibur VI Roundup: Kayane’s Xianghua breakdown, Geralt tech traps, and more!

SoulCalibur VI marches on! The combo potential and ease-of-play has kept content streaming in to the SRK tipline: here’s the latest work from the community:

rooflemonger starts us off today with a beginner’s combo guides for Ivy and Astaroth. They might be quite different from each other, but both are technically the game’s grapplers. They can still put on the hurt though!

NurseLee has a beginner’s combo guide for The Witcher himself, and some nice tech traps with 6K!

KayaneTV is one of the world’s most famous Xianghua players. If there was ever a person you would want to see a breakdown of their character from, it’s her… so! Here you go:

Closing us out today is LegendaryWolf Shirou. Though this combo does start with a fairly impractical Mitsurugi unblockable, it doesn’t make the rest of it any less impressive:

Thanks to everyone that submitted content to us! If you have some SCVI tech you’d like to share with the world, reach out to us through our tipline.

Check out the surprising damage of Alisa’s CH Daisy Chain combos in Tekken 7

Alisa’s “Daisy Chain” in Tekken 7 is DB+22, a somewhat slower but relatively safe mid, mid string with linear space control. But this cute little two hit poke has a secret — a massive +14~+15 frame advantage that can be taken advantage of for absurdly strong counter-hit combos.

Particularly when near a wall, Daisy Chain skyrockets Alisa’s damage potential in ways a safe mid, mid string rarely does for other characters. There’s even enough frame advantage that you can get some truly combo video only combos — for example, a guaranteed back throw!

Naruto: Gekitō Ninja Taisen! 4 gets new life in this GNT4: Remastered Combo Video

You may not believe it if you’re relatively new to the FGC, but there was, at one point in time, a surprisingly solid scene for Naruto: Gekitō Ninja Taisen! 4 on the GameCube. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate — there still is a surprisingly solid scene for this game, one that’s lived on through reddit and modding.

It’s that latter part that’s the focus of today’s video: TheCape has been working on a remastered, re-balanced version of this niche GameCube title for a long time, and the fruits of his labor are seen below. if any of this intrigues you, make sure you stop by the GNT4 reddit to learn more about the game.
