Never drop Giant Swing or Tombstone with these input shortcuts for King in Tekken 7

Giant Swing and Tombstone’s commands are a little more demanding than the average throw in Tekken 7, particularly for new King players just starting to learn the character. Regardless of whether your on a pad or stick, though, it’s helpful to know that there’s a shortcut for both of these moves — and the practical applications for them extend beyond just making the input easier.

By using these inputs, you can also mix up the visual cues players use to identify other throws King has, such as Muscle Buster. The smallest details matter in Tekken 7, and this could very well be the edge you need to score a surprise grapple to close a round.

KayaneTV interviews SoulCalibur composer Junichi Nakatsuru

Here’s one for the creative types in the FGC, particularly of the musically-inclined: KayaneTV recently got to sit down with Soul Calibur series composer Junichi Nakatsuru, and picked his brain for the source of his inspiration.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of Nakatsuru-san’s process is how far removed he is from the game itself when composing a theme. Long before the game is anywhere near playable, he is given a story and sketches of the character — luckily, his strong imagination and exceptional talent allow him to fill in the rest.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s full roster may just have been leaked

One of the things players are eagerly looking forward to in the lead up to this December’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the identities of the characters in the game. Recently however, an inadvertent leak may have just revealed the upcoming game’s entire roster.

The “leak” in question comes from photos posted in the imageboard 4chan. The photos seem to be of some promotional artwork and material for the game that happens to show off characters that have not yet been announced for the game. The characters supposedly “revealed” by this leak are as follows.

  • Shadow the Hedgehog (from Sonic the Hedgehog)
  • Banjo-Kazooie (from Banjo-Kazooie)
  • Isaac (from Golden Sun)
  • Ken (from Street Fighter)
  • Mach Rider (from Mach Rider)
  • Geno (from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)
  • Chorus Kids (from Rhythm Heaven)

You can see them in this comparison of the game’s banners, including the “leaked” one, alongside the most recent one, and the one from E3 below.

In addition to these characters, artwork also appears of a previously unseen stage.

While the photos were posted anonymously, users were able to decode the blacked out name on the images. These names have since been traced to the LinkedIn profile of an account manager at Les Ateliers Marina, a French printing company who’s clients include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate developer Bandai Namco.

Of course, all of this information is unverified, and as such we suggest taking it all with a grain of salt. That said, interested players can check out more details on it, and how the supposed source was traced over in the thread on ResetEra.

Miss X joins the cast of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy

When NIS America and SNK teased a the next DLC character for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, many guessed that it would be Miss X — Iori’s cross-dressing alter-ego from SNK Gals’ Fighters. Well, it turns out they were right, as Miss X is the next DLC character for the game, just not how you remember him… err, her.

That’s right, just like Terry, Iori has magically been turned into an actual girl for Miss X’s appearance in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Battle. That said, those who prefer the cross-dressing original can still play as him via one of Miss X’s alternate outfits. Her other alternate on the other hand has her dress up as rival Kyo Kusanagi, or more precisely, a Kyo fan-girl (something seems to irk her to no end).

You can check Miss X out in the trailer below.

Miss X becomes available for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy on PlayStation 4 and Switch on November 15.

Capcom launching new weekly Street Fighter stream from ESA Oakland: Capcom Connect

Will Namco respond to the growing backlash against Create-A-Souls in Soul Calibur VI’s ranked mode?

Soul Calibur VI‘s reception has been fairly positive, much more so than previous entries in the series. That doesn’t mean there aren’t complaints, and there’s one argument — particularly coming from within the FGC — that seems to be gaining traction. SCII Legend Aris’s video on the subject captures the feeling best:

There’s a growing discussion surrounding the fairness of Create-a-Soul in the ranked battles of Soul Calibur VI. As has been understood in past versions of the game, these characters possess different ranges, hitboxes, and hurtboxes than the characters their styles are based on. Note that “different” doesn’t necessarily mean “better” — you’re practically nerfing yourself if you make a CaS Astaroth, and the game has built in modifiers to make taller characters deal less damage — but it only takes one dropped combo on a weird anime wife for that fact to not matter. (Not to mention that you could cover your character in animation obscuring objects.)

This isn’t necessarily a new topic — in the past,  the SC community wrestled with the legality of everything from SC2’s console specific characters to SC4’s bonus characters. In the era of patching and with Namco keen on keeping up the reputation they’ve built up with Tekken 7’s success, though, the vocal backlash against CaS in Ranked might actually be enough to get a response. It certainly worked with Tekken’s input lag debacle sometime ago — so if this ruins your Ranked experience too, now’s the time to sound off.
