Bass Chills His Opponents to the Bone with This Frosty Spinal Montage

As his name suggests, Ultra Arcade’s Bass is quite the fan of the Mega Man series. So much so that his latest Spinal montage is all set to the music from Frost Man’s stage from Mega Man 8, adding to the retro flavor of these clips. The editor of this montage, UA|Kalypso, has even added in the special “Jump!” and “Slide!” icons from Frost Man’s stage, to line up with whenever Bass starts a combo with Spinal’s slide or a jump in.

With any Bass compilation, expect some devastating corner combos, extensive use of Spinal’s bouncing Skulls and more than a few mindgames which will send a chill up your spine. If you are looking for something to heat you up, Bass has promised that he will be starting up a special Cinder gauntlet, similar to his previous Spinal gauntlet once he returns from KiT.

Cinder is now apparently the bane of Killer Instinct, due to the recent changes to potential damage, so Bass is calling on all Cinder players to try and best him in a first to ten to prove the character’s power. It might be just the thing to warm us all up in the depth of the January chill.

Speedkicks Signs with InControl Gaming as Their First Fighting Game Player

InControl Gaming is jumping into the fighting game circuit just in time for the release of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution and the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour. It was announced that their first acquisition in the FGC is top American Tekken player Stephen “Speedkicks” Stafford.

Stafford, a Hwoarang main who was the 2016 Final Round, Kumite in Tennessee, and Wizard World champion–and also made top 8 at Evolution 2016–was formerly signed with Circa Esports prior to joining InControl. Whether this will be the first of several fighting game acquisitions for the organization–given the mass signings recently by Echo Fox–remains to be seen.

Seeing as Final Fantasy XV is the game of the moment, I would not be surprised if this new character is protagonist Noctis. With FF’s 30th anniversary being at the end of the month as well, we could see a console release date very soon.

The SRK Rollback: Best of 2016 — The Year in Review

Street Fighter V’s Servers Down Briefly Today to Address Matchmaking Issues

Capcom’s still doing some damage-control since the December update.

Street Fighter V’s online game has been a bit rocky since the Season 2 patch, and some players have been experiencing problems with opponent matchmaking. Capcom is working to fix that today in a 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST maintenance window, during which the SFV servers will be offline.

Go have a long breakfast, and hopefully things will be a bit smoother on CFN by lunchtime.

Follow Mango’s Path to Genesis 4 in This Hype Trailer for the Smash Supermajor

It’s less than two weeks away and the excitement is palpable. Acting as the event to truly kick off 2017, Genesis 4 is the place where many Smash storylines will gain new chapters, thanks to mass gathering of talent at one tournament. One of the pivotal narratives of Genesis has been the rivalry between C9|Mango and Alliance|Armada, who seem fated to duel in the Grand Finals of each tournament.

The set count currently stands at 2-1 to Armada, with the world number one taking victory at Genesis 3 last year. This year acts as Mango’s chance to draw even, or the place where Armada put this rivalry to rest. With Liquid|Hungrybox somewhat sidelined by a fractured finger, this fated finals is looking ever more likely, if the two contenders perform to their best.

To brief fans on Mango’s history going into this event, videomaker finallyjames has created a potted history of Mango, showing the successes and failures which have lead him to Genesis 4. It makes for a compelling watch, as the GOAT of Melee has remained a fan favorite ever since he burst onto the scene. Keep an eye on finallyjames’ channel in the next week or so, as he may release a companion trailer showing Armada’s journey to Genesis.

Shadow Labrys Turns Heads on All Axes in This Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Combo Video

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has been overshadowed as of late, with other Arc System Works titles such as BlazBlue: Central Fiction and Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- taking prominence over it. That doesn’t mean that community involvement is at a standstill with the game, as people are still innovating within its interesting mechanics and systems.

Banana Ken–one of America’s best in the game–is one of those people. Sticking with his tried-and-true Shadow Labrys, he has continued to expand his working knowledge of this title and created some new combos. All of these are featured in this excellent combo video.

Tenkaichi Budokai, Guilty Gear’s Version of Topanga League, Starts January 8

The Topanga League was one of Japan’s biggest esports draws of the Street Fighter IV era. Its format has been used across the board, including Europe’s Kakutop league and Korea’s Tukyeon League, ran by Spirit Zero.

Now, the Tenkaichi Budokai league in Japan is using this model to run a Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- league. Unlike many leagues that have had issues with foreigners watching live, such as using domestic streaming services that often have a paywall, this league will be streamed live on Twitch.

Featured in the league are famed Japanese Guilty Gear players Roi, Nage, FAB, Summit, Kazuki, Zaki, Haaken, and Karinchu in two separate groups. If you are a Guilty Gear fan, you owe it to yourself to tune in to http://www.twitch.tv/joniosan.

Kilgore Turns into a Killing Machine with This 150-Hit Triple Ultra Combo in Killer Instinct

Maximillian has been hard at work with Kilgore since his release in Killer Instinct yesterday, and already he has something amazingly impractical–yet incredibly awesome–with the character.

Kilgore has the power to chain not one, not two, but three ultra combos together with the help of Instinct Mode and Shadow moves. It is done within a 150-hit combo that is a sight to behold. Definitely possible to do within matches with the right circumstances, so you now have one more way to style on your fallen foes.
