Akuma Gets Even More Dangerous with These New Street Fighter V Setups

It’s that time again: time to see how dangerous Akuma is getting in the hands of the dedicated lab monkeys in today’s Akuma roundup.

Toronto’s 50/50|KS Tali has been putting in a ton of wrench time in the lab, and it’s showing. He is coming up with setup after setup for Akuma. In the first video, he shows utilization of back fierce as an anti air with proper follow-ups.

Next we see a lot of meaty setups after sweep, plus throw loops and safe jumps.

Finally Tali shows us something a lot of people will dread to see, but Akuma mains will salivate over. Akuma does indeed have a vortex in Street Fighter V, thus making him insanely dangerous in this iteration.

It looks like Red Bull’s SnakeEyez is still hunting for a secondary–or a main–to replace Zangief. Here’s some of his matches using Akuma in Season 2.

Finally, we have Daityan becoming Tokido’s latest victim of one thousand deaths. It truly looks like the Murderface is back with a vengeance.

Peach Shows No Mercy with This Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Combo Video

Peach is not a very merciful person. If you have seen high-level Smash play with her before, that is no secret.

This new combo video, ironically titled “The Queen of Mercy,” shows Peach being her usual merciless self. In this video, Peach spends a good amount of her time tap dancing on her opponents’ heads, and then continues with some pretty grimy back throw setups into turnips.

Because after all, what good is a monarch who shows mercy to all?

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Lives: Justin Wong Takes on IFC Yipes and Sanford Kelly in These Sets from NEC17

While most of the Marvel Vs. community has been focused on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 thanks to its new current-generation port on PlayStation 4, it isn’t the only “Mahvel” game that still draws competition in this day and age. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was the original long-runner–with players competing for more than a decade–and still draws hype whenever it shows up.

At Northeast Championships 17 a couple of weeks back, two of Marvel’s best and brightest, Evil Geniuses’s Justin Wong and Michael “IFC Yipes” Mendoza went back to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for an epic first-to-ten set. While the set itself wasn’t recorded, AG Hyo was on hand to record the set off stream.

In many ways, it’s a callback to the early days of MvC2, where direct feed recording was still a luxury, and fans had to rely on off screen recording like this to get their dose of Marvel hype.

In addition to this, there was also a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 side tournament at NEC 17. While the official videos have yet of the tournament have yet to be uploaded, Lemagicdude has shared an off screen capture of the set. The interesting thing here is that the video also captures some live crowd commentary from Yipes, Chris Matrix, and Noel Brown.

Get a Glimpse of the Qanba Dragon with This Review from HurtboxTV

The Qanba Dragon–the Chinese company’s equivalent to the Hori VLX–is quite the amazing stick. With the wide body that has come to be the norm on ultra-premium arcade stick offerings, the Dragon features even more than that. HurtboxTV got a chance to review this stick, thanks to receiving one of them from Mark “MarkMan” Julio, and had loads of praise for the stick: including its easy access, quality build and parts, and well-done wiring for a commercial stick.

Hail to the Kings: Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Combos

We are nearing the console release of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, but that doesn’t mean that we’re finished seeing combo exhibitions from Tekken Tag Tournament 2. These tag games always feature a diverse roster and unique synergy, making every combo unique to the team it’s built around.

Today, we have a combo exhibition from King and Armor King, with some glimpses of Jaycee, Yoshimitsu, Marduk, Jinpachi and Law as assist characters. But all of them remain subservient to the King, who reigns over everyone in this combo video.

Give in to Your Murderous Intent with Oni’s CFN Portal Character Profile & Akuma’s Street Fighter V Concept Art

After profiling the Mad Gear gang’s “Headbutt Brigade” earlier this week–before taking some time off for the Christmas holiday–the CFN Portal site is back with a special post-Holiday treat: to honor Akuma’s recent addition to the playable cast of Street Fighter V, the Shadaloo Activity Report has finally released their report on the final currently-revealed playable cast member in the franchise, as well as some concept artwork for the “Master of the Fist!” First introduced to the series as a time-release character in 2010’s Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, it’s the “Mad Demon,” Kuruoshiki Oni!

Private Nakagawa: “Scaaaryyyy! It’s a bit soon to scatter beans though, [this update being posted on December 26th; he’s referencing 節分 Setsubun, when children throw beans at demons, usually their fathers in disguise] This is the form Akuma will take after continued exposure to the Satsui no Hadō!

Basic Info:

Name: Kuruoshiki Oni
Height: Unknown
Weight: Unknown
Blood type: Unknown
Birthday: Unknown
Home Country: Unknown
Likes: Unknown
Dislikes: Unknown

Private Nakagawa: A demon god who has lost and emotion and feeling in his body, and whose existence is entirely devoted to fighting and battle. Satsui no Hadō continuously flows from his body. He beats his opponents with violent techniques, such as Rakan Dantōjin [“Arhat-severing Tower Blade.”/”Demon Slash.” His half-circle-forward + kick special from USFIV.] or Sekisei Jiraiken! [“Red Star Landmine Fist.”/”Ground Pound.” His Dragon Punch + kick special from USFIV.] His physique has improved, and so has his strength.

In addition to this 213th Character Profile, the CFN Portal site has also released some new concept art for Akuma, showcasing how the Raging Demon’s new look slowly began to take shape in Street Fighter V, before he became the lion-esque, bearded beast we now have today. First some words from Director Takayuki Nakayama!

Director Nakayama: Although the Raging Demon has finally been released, his appearance has been redesigned. Here are some of the rough pictures drawn when we were introducing his new design.

Naked Upper Body ver.

akuma-shirtless-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: His waist is a bit slim. The gi and wild beard are close to what we adopted.

South American Demon ver.

akuma-south-american-sfv-concept-artwork

Director Nakayama: If you came back to South America and lived there for life, there is exactly such as guy, and it is a Mad Demon that cannot come out to appear.

Is it Hot or Cold? ver.

akuma-bear-claw-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: He was thrown away because his coat was gloomy. Since he was attacked by a bear when it became a little chilly, he defeated it and made it into a scarf.

I picked up a baby ver.

akuma-baby-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: His V-Trigger rocks the baby to sleep. By doing so, you can demonstrate his original power. He never comes down from his back. A baby can appear as “a character brought up by a Mad Demon” in a few years. It’s a super delicious setting.

Almost Completed ver.

akuma-almost-completed-sfv-concept-art

Director Nakayama: There is nothing, it is almost a finished version of the Raging Demon. Actually, it is almost what I drew up in a meeting for the first time. In other words, while keeping the designs of past works as well, I tried and tried to make a new Demon. The baby’s topic is fine. The development members were also hit by the loveliness of Ako. Please look forward to next time.

That brings us to the end of another CFN profile. Will the Andore Family or the members of the Mad Gear Gang from Final Fight 2 be spotlighted in the coming days? Keep your browser locked right here to Shoryuken, as we’ll be covering the next profiles as they are released! But if you’re looking for more Oni action, you can catch him in the latest issue of UDON’s Street Fighter Unlimited #12, which is on sale now for $3.99 USD, anywhere comic books are sold!

Hungrybox Pulls of 30 Critical Offstage Rests in This Super Smash Bros. Melee Compilation

Super Smash Bros. Melee star Liquid|Hungrybox isn’t known for having a flashy playstyle, but every now and then we see some showy plays from the world-renowned Orlando native that makes us question how humble he truly is. In this compilation from GRSmash, we see the Evo Champion pull off 30 very risky and very impressive Rests, a high risk, high reward attack for Jigglypuff players.

Similar to Captain Falcon’s Falcon Punch, Rest is a move that–as a pro–does a massive amount of raw damage if it hits and–as a con–leaves Jigglypuff wide open for attacks if it misses. Knowing how and when to use Rest isn’t necessarily essential to being a good Jigglypuff player, but having the ability to incorporate Rest into an in-game strategy can give a ‘Puff main a crucial advantage.

It’s no surprise that Hungrybox, considered by many to be the best Jigglypuff player in the world, would display such such mastery of a high-level technique, but the fact that these 30 match-ending Rests were executed while floating off stage makes them that much more awe-inspiring.

You can learn more about Rests here, and view more from GRSmash here.
