Feel the Hammer of Pain with This Painwheel Combo Video for Skullgirls 2nd Encore

Painwheel is known for being a low tier character in Skullgirls 2nd Encore, and most certainly has a damage handicap. That, however, doesn’t stop her from having some flashy combos.

Catch some of these insane solo combos, with a smattering of assisted combos–featuring the likes of Peacock and fellow low tier Big Band–as she spins her wheel, and everyone ends up losing their life.

Get a Taste of What Fu’un Super Combo Is About with This New Trailer

As some of you may know, previously the Japan-only Fu’un Super Combo is now out in the US as a PlayStation 2 Classic on PlayStation 4. However, the fact that the original was a Japanese exclusive may mean that most players are not familiar with the two games included in the Fu’un Super Combo compilation: Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter.

SNK has thus released a trailer for Fu’un Super Combo: the trailer, which you can see below, demonstrates some combos for the characters while at the same time showcasing both games’ excellent sprite work, which has aged quite well.

Fu’un Super Combo is available now on PlayStation 4.

Pokkén Tournament to Appear at Japanese Tournaments Tokaigi 2017, KVOxTSB 2017

Over the past several months, The Pokémon Company has been (very, very slowly) revealing and releasing new characters and balance updates to Pokkén Tournament’s arcade cabinets. There’s been plenty of advertisements, but no announcements for console updates, or even a Switch release. For everyone outside of the Japanese arcade market, TPC’s end goal may seem a little mysterious. The sudden announcement of the game at two large and popular japanese events, however, may be part of a larger plan for the game in 2017.

Coming via Pokkén’s Official Twitter, the unique point-of-view shifting fighter will be appearing at the multi-genre tournament Tokaigi 2017. Considering Tokaigi has run everything from tournaments for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike to Super Mario Speed Runs, Pokkén likely feels right at home. This also isn’t the first time Pokkén has been at Tokaigi, though it is the game’s first appearance post console release. The tournament will be in a 2v2 team format, with limited signup. This tournament will take place on February 12th, 2017.

For those looking for a more standard format of Japanese Pokkén, KVOxTSB 2017 will be running a singles tournament for Pokkén. KVO of Japan and Team St1ckBuG’s game selection this year leans heavily towards the anime and airdasher side of fighting games, making Pokkén an unusually slower paced choice for the tournament. We’ll see on May 4th if this’ll help Pokkén stand out from the crowd! Of particular note for fans of japan’s Pokkén scene is that the tournament organizer will be none other then the Gengar legend himself, Sasahune.

Thanks to JiMing for the tip, and translations in their article at smashboards!

Catch Some New Tech for the Returning Street Fighter V Cast in This Season 2 (Day 2) Roundup

We are 48 hours into Season 2, and the new tech keeps rolling in. Everyone is in the lab finding stuff they refuse to save for nationals, and everyone is on the hunt for all things that will help them elevate their game in Street Fighter V. So without further adieu, here is our Day 2 Roundup.

It seems that desk is busy as a bee this week, buzzing about in training mode. With Season 2 as a pseudo-Christmas present for the combo maestro, he’s producing a ton of content. In this video, he revisits the perennial world warrior Ryu, and goes over new combos for Season 2 of Street Fighter V. With many of his moves altered in the update, it seems that the shoto’s combo potential has opened up significantly.

However, not all is coming up roses for Juri, as it does appear that Laura has a tool to beat her Critical Art.

Back to talking about Season 1’s official heel, R. Mika. Here are some new Season 2 combos for R. Mika. It seems like the Irish Whip nerf hasn’t quite deterred the wrestler.

Moreover, UltraChen found a new hit confirm into Mika’s critical art.

Finally, we have a new Urien meaty setup that will add more danger to being in the corner against him.

Tune in tomorrow for more of that meaty tech you crave! (And thanks to everyone that sent in tips!)

Battle of Gods: Mago Takes on Tokido in This Street Fighter V Online Akuma Mirror Match

As many of you already know, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi has once again picked up Akuma, taking him through a tear online in Street Fighter V. That said, Tokido isn’t the only Japanese “god” who’s picked up the Raging Demon.

The self-professed “2D God,” Kenryo “Mago” Hayashi has also seemingly started to learn how to play Akuma in Street Fighter V. With both players occupying the upper echelons of Street Fighter V’s online rankings, it wouldn’t be long before they eventually faced off against each other online.

For those wondering how this battle turned out, YogaFlame24 has recorded the replay of their clash and shared it on YouTube.

The King of Fighters XIV Version 1.10 to Launch on January 11th, 2017

In conjunction with the release of Athena’s The King of Fighters ’98 retro outfit, Yasukuyi Oda has announced via the PlayStation Blog that version 1.10 of The King of Fighters XIV will launch on January 11th, 2017. If you are not yet aware, this update drastically improves KOFXIV’s visuals, by overhauling the lighting engine and improving the shader quality for all of the cast.

As well as these graphical improvements, version 1.10 of King of Fighters XIV adds two new color palettes to every fighter on the roster, and a special demo ver.2 will be released ahead of the full update for fans to get to grips with this new version. Do be aware that version 1.10 will not contain any balance changes, it will just contain the graphical upgrades.

You’ll be able to see KOFXIV’s new coat of paint in motion at the Four Kings Tournaments for The King of Fighters World Championship in February; expect more big updates from SNK in the new year.

Vortex Mixups, Unblockables and More for Kum Haehyun in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

A largely unexplored character, Kum Haehyun is coming along nicely in the tech department. Thanks to Japanese player Maroshi exploring the uses of his fireball—the trajectory of which is controlled by the player—we see below a vortex of options off a corner throw.

The superjump is a nice touch as it allows him to completely avoid most any reversal super that might escape the corner.

Throw Oki

Same side high: ad/f (airdash forward) j.S >  j.HS.

Same side low: 2K 2D.

Crossup low: 2K 2D.

Crossup high: ad/f j.S j.HS. If it’s blocked, this shows a followup to escape the corner and apply another mixup while you’re at it.

If they block the initial mixup, and you tag them after with 2K:

When going for the throw to start these mixups, make sure you option select with close Slash (6+S+H). Not only is an accidental 6H bad news up close, it’s incredibly negative on block.

Make sure you end your juggles with j.H with the opponent above your height for maximum timing to get a free 236H:

Another application of that meterless oki situation. After the fireball, 5H is used to bait the opponent into standing as the second hit is overhead. Another layer to this mixup could be using 6K which looks similar but hits low. Keeping them in blockstun with the 5H is a safer bet, though:

Faust has a strange hitbox that allows for some unique combos. Here’s how to utilize that for a relaunch:

Kum’s fireball super functions like the regular version—controlled by your directional inputs—and can be used to set up unblockables like so:

Clever use of fireball oki can also allow for meterless combos off his throw:

The other way to land an unblockable involves using the wallsplat from 5D6:

Don’t forget that comboing into 5D reduces some of the damage scaling of your combo, potentiallly netting you more damage than other combo routes after a roman cancel.

Tired of Leo’s backturned mixup situation? Wakeup super allows you to react—with the super freeze—and see what option he chose. If he countered, charge the super a bit to avoid it, otherwise you can let ‘er rip.

Immortals Signs DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel as Their First Super Smash Bros. Melee Player

Expanding into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U earlier in the year with the signing of Jason “ANTi” Bates, Immortals have made their grand entrance into Super Smash Bros. Melee with the acquisition of notable NorCal Sheik main, DaJuan “Shroomed” McDaniel.

Following his split from Winterfox earlier this month, Shroomed entered a period of free agency as he looked for a new team. With his energetic personality, stellar teams ability and his world class Sheik, the Immortals have picked a fan favorite by signing Shroomed to their growing Smash stable. With top 8 placings at Get on My Level 2016, Smash ‘n’ Splash 2, CEO 2016, and Super Smash Con, Shroomed looks set to hit new heights with Immortals.

“Shroomed isn’t only a skilled competitor, but also a player that consistently reflects the IMT commitment to holistic performance,” says CEO of Immortals, Noah Whinston. “DaJuan’s focus on mental and physical wellness as keys to competitive performance made him an easy choice as Immortals’ SSBM representative.”

Shroomed will be representing Immortals at Genesis 4 in January, so look out for him rocking a new black and green jersey in San Jose next month.
